29 The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed of the fire: in vain do they go on refining; for the wicked are not plucked away.
The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; But Jehovah trieth the hearts.
But I said, I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nought and vanity; yet surely the justice `due' to me is with Jehovah, and my recompense with my God.
In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed thee and thou wast not cleansed, thou shalt not be cleansed from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward thee to rest.
And my people are bent on backsliding from me: though they call them to `him that is' on high, none at all will exalt `him'.
But who can abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap: and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer unto Jehovah offerings in righteousness.
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you:
