3 That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee? `And', What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?
For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing That he should delight himself with God.
I am perfect; I regard not myself; I despise my life. It is all one; therefore I say, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
If I be wicked, woe unto me; And if I be righteous, yet shall I not lift up my head; Being filled with ignominy, And looking upon mine affliction.
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
Surely in vain have I cleansed my heart, And washed my hands in innocency;

Chapter 35
Job being still silent, Elihu follows his blow, and here, a third time, undertakes to show him that he had spoken amiss, and ought to recant. Three improper sayings he here charges him with, and returns answer to them distinctly:-

Elihu here returns an answer to another word that Job had said, which, he thought, reflected much upon the justice and goodness of God, and therefore ought not to pass without a remark. Observe,
