7 Why doth this man thus speak? he blasphemeth: who can forgive sins but one, `even' God?
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake; and I will not remember thy sins.
And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that even forgiveth sins?
To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgiveness; for we have rebelled against him;
Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be worthy of death.
The Jews answered him, For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
say ye of him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am `the' Son of God?
And when he had said this, he showed unto them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. Jesus therefore said to them again, Peace `be' unto you: as the Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit: whose soever sins ye forgive, they are forgiven unto them; whose soever `sins' ye retain, they are retained.
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth over the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in lovingkindness.
