2 Take hold of shield and buckler, And stand up for my help.
Jehovah will go forth as a mighty man; he will stir up `his' zeal like a man of war: he will cry, yea, he will shout aloud; he will do mightily against his enemies.
If I whet my glittering sword, And my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine adversaries, And will recompense them that hate me. I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, And my sword shall devour flesh; With the blood of the slain and the captives, From the head of the leaders of the enemy.
If a man turn not, he will whet his sword; He hath bent his bow, and made it ready. He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; He maketh his arrows fiery `shafts'.
He will cover thee with his pinions, And under his wings shalt thou take refuge: His truth is a shield and a buckler.

Two very wicked things David here lays to the charge of his enemies, to make good his appeal to God against them-perjury and ingratitude.
