5 I have kept my feet in your ways, my steps have not been turned away.
You have made my steps wide under me, so that my feet are kept from slipping.
Let my steps be guided by your word; and let not sin have control over me.
He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the evil-doers will come to their end in the dark night, for by strength no man will overcome.
My feet have gone in his steps; I have kept in his way, without turning to one side or to the other.
Be my support as you have said, and give me life; let not my hope be turned to shame. Let me not be moved, and I will be safe, and ever take delight in your rules.
May he not let your foot be moved: no need of sleep has he who keeps you.

He addresses himself to God in these verses both by way of appeal (Hear the right, O Lord! let my righteous cause have a hearing before thy tribunal, and give judgment upon it) and by way of petition (Give ear unto my prayer v. 1, and again v. 6, Incline thy ear unto me and hear my speech); not that God needs to be thus pressed with our importunity, but he gives us leave thus to express our earnest desire of his gracious answers to our prayers. These things he pleads with God for audience,
