14 Death will give them their food like sheep; the underworld is their fate and they will go down into it; their flesh is food for worms; their form is wasted away; the underworld is their resting-place for ever.
And the evil-doers will be crushed under you, they will be dust under your feet, in the day when I do my work, says the Lord of armies.
Is it not certain that the saints will be the judges of the world? if then the world will be judged by you, are you unable to give a decision about the smallest things?
So that you may take food and drink at my table in my kingdom, and be seated like kings, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Till he came, who was very old, and the decision was made and the authority was given to the saints of the Most High; and the time came when the saints took the kingdom.
Snow waters become dry with the heat: so do sinners go down into the underworld. The public place of his town has no more knowledge of him, and his name has gone from the memory of men: he is rooted up like a dead tree.
But the saints of the Most High will take the kingdom, and it will be theirs for ever, even for ever and ever.
And I saw high seats, and they were seated on them, and the right of judging was given to them: and I saw the souls of those who were put to death for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and those who did not give worship to the beast, or to his image, and had not his mark on their brows or on their hands; and they were living and ruling with Christ a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life again till the thousand years were ended. This is the first coming back from the dead.
He who overcomes, and keeps my works to the end, to him I will give rule over the nations, And he will be ruling them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of the potter they will be broken, even as I have power from my Father:
As it is said in the holy Writings, Because of you we are put to death every day; we are like sheep ready for destruction.
If their tent-cord is pulled up, do they not come to an end, and without wisdom?
But you, O Lord, have knowledge of me; you see me, searching and testing how my heart is with you: let them be pulled out like sheep to be put to death, make them ready for the day of death.
And the dust goes back to the earth as it was, and the spirit goes back to God who gave it.
He will put down the peoples under us, and the nations under our feet.
For his wrath is only for a minute; in his grace there is life; weeping may be for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
The sinners and all the nations who have no memory of God will be turned into the underworld.
Their days come to an end without trouble, and suddenly they go down to the underworld.

Commentary on Psalms 49 Matthew Henry Commentary
Psalm 49
This psalm is a sermon, and so is the next. In most of the psalms we have the penman praying or praising; in these we have him preaching; and it is our duty, in singing psalms, to teach and admonish ourselves and one another. The scope and design of this discourse is to convince the men of this world of their sin and folly in setting their hearts upon the things of this world, and so to persuade them to seek the things of a better world; as also to comfort the people of God, in reference to their own troubles and the grief that arises from the prosperity of the wicked.
In singing this psalm let us receive these instructions, and be wise.
To the chief musician. A psalm for the sons of Korah.
Psa 49:1-5
This is the psalmist's preface to his discourse concerning the vanity of the world and its insufficiency to make us happy; and we seldom meet with an introduction more solemn than this is; for there is no truth of more undoubted certainty, nor of greater weight and importance, and the consideration of which will be of more advantage to us.
