14 And this is the boldness which we have towards him, that if we ask him anything according to his will he hears us.
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness towards God, and whatsoever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and practise the things which are pleasing in his sight.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, this will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask evilly, that ye may consume [it] in your pleasures.
in whom we have boldness and access in confidence by the faith of him.
But if any one of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all freely and reproaches not, and it shall be given to him: but let him ask in faith, nothing doubting. For he that doubts is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and tossed about;
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and I will shew thee great and hidden things, which thou knowest not.
[The righteous] cry, and Jehovah heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
[But] we know that God does not hear sinners; but if any one be God-fearing and do his will, him he hears.
And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense.
For Jehovah heareth the needy, and despiseth not his prisoners.
As for me, I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes; nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
For we are become companions of the Christ if indeed we hold the beginning of the assurance firm to the end;
but Christ, as Son over his house, whose house are *we*, if indeed we hold fast the boldness and the boast of hope firm to the end.
Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you. For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you who, if his son shall ask of him a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; and if he ask a fish, will give him a serpent? If therefore *ye*, being wicked, know [how] to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to them that ask of him?

Chapter 5
In this chapter the apostle asserts,
1Jo 5:1-5
1Jo 5:6-9
The faith of the Christian believer (or the believer in Christ) being thus mighty and victorious, it had need to be well founded, to be furnished with unquestionable celestial evidence concerning the divine mission, authority, and office of the Lord Jesus; and it is so; he brings his credentials along with him, and he brings them in a way by which he came and in the witness that attends him.
