17 Every unrighteousness is sin; and there is a sin not to death.
Every one that practises sin practises also lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.
then lust, having conceived, gives birth to sin; but sin fully completed brings forth death.
When the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and practiseth what is wrong, and dieth for it; in his wrong that he hath done shall he die. And when the wicked turneth from his wickedness which he hath committed, and doeth judgment and justice, he shall keep his soul alive. Because he considereth, and turneth from all his transgressions which he hath committed, he shall certainly live, he shall not die. But the house of Israel say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? Is it not your ways that are unequal? Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord Jehovah. Return ye, and turn from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your snare. Cast away from you all your transgressions wherewith ye have transgressed, and make you a new heart and a new spirit: why then will ye die, house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord Jehovah; therefore turn ye and live.
Everything that I command you, ye shall take heed to do it; thou shalt not add thereto, nor take from it.
My children, these things I write to you in order that ye may not sin; and if any one sin, we have a patron with the Father, Jesus Christ [the] righteous;
Take heed then to do as Jehovah your God hath commanded you: turn not aside to the right hand or to the left.
But law came in, in order that the offence might abound; but where sin abounded grace has overabounded, in order that, even as sin has reigned in [the power of] death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Subject yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse [your] hands, sinners, and purify [your] hearts, ye double-minded. Be wretched, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves before [the] Lord, and he shall exalt you.

Chapter 5
In this chapter the apostle asserts,
1Jo 5:1-5
1Jo 5:6-9
The faith of the Christian believer (or the believer in Christ) being thus mighty and victorious, it had need to be well founded, to be furnished with unquestionable celestial evidence concerning the divine mission, authority, and office of the Lord Jesus; and it is so; he brings his credentials along with him, and he brings them in a way by which he came and in the witness that attends him.
