23 And having chosen them elders in each assembly, having prayed with fastings, they committed them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.
For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou mightest go on to set right what remained [unordered], and establish elders in each city, as *I* had ordered thee:
which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
And now I commit you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build [you] up and give [to you] an inheritance among all the sanctified.
But from Miletus having sent to Ephesus, he called over [to him] the elders of the assembly.
The elder to [the] elect lady and her children, whom *I* love in truth, and not *I* only but also all who have known the truth,
And the things thou hast heard of me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, such as shall be competent to instruct others also.
Lay hands quickly on no man, nor partake in others' sins. Keep thyself pure.
Let the elders who take the lead [among the saints] well be esteemed worthy of double honour, specially those labouring in word and teaching; for the scripture says, Thou shalt not muzzle an ox that treadeth out corn, and, The workman [is] worthy of his hire. Against an elder receive not an accusation unless where there are two or three witnesses.
And the apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about this matter.
And being arrived at Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly, and the apostles, and the elders, and related all that God had wrought with them.
Now there were in Antioch, in the assembly which was [there], prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenian, and Manaen, foster-brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. And as they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me now Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. Then, having fasted and prayed, and having laid [their] hands on them, they let [them] go.
And he appointed twelve that they might be with him, and that he might send them to preach,
But the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, when ye have suffered for a little while, himself shall make perfect, stablish, strengthen, ground:
But our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us, and given [us] eternal consolation and good hope by grace, encourage your hearts, and establish you in every good work and word.
But you, may the Lord make to exceed and abound in love toward one another, and toward all, even as we also towards you, in order to the confirming of your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
and thence they sailed away to Antioch, whence they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.
beginning from the baptism of John until the day in which he was taken up from us, one of these should be a witness with us of his resurrection.
