23 The chief of the tower-house looked not to anything under his hand, because Jehovah was with him; and what he did, Jehovah made it prosper.
And Jehovah was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that Jehovah was with him, and that Jehovah made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
Wherefore Jehovah the God of Israel saith, I said indeed, Thy house and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever. But now Jehovah saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
and he put them in custody into the house of the captain of the life-guard, into the tower-house, into the place where Joseph was imprisoned. And the captain of the life-guard appointed Joseph to them, that he should attend on them. And they were [several] days in custody.
My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me; forasmuch as before him innocence was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
Confide in Jehovah, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on faithfulness; and delight thyself in Jehovah, and he will give thee the desires of thy heart. Commit thy way unto Jehovah, and rely upon him: he will bring [it] to pass; and he will bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him that prospereth in his way, because of the man that bringeth mischievous devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; fret not thyself: it [would be] only to do evil. For evil-doers shall be cut off; but those that wait on Jehovah, they shall possess the land. For yet a little while, and the wicked is not; and thou considerest his place, but he is not. But the meek shall possess the land, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of prosperity.

Gen 39:13-18
Joseph's mistress, having tried in vain to make him a criminal, now endeavours to represent him as one; so to be revenged on him for his virtue. Now was her love turned into the utmost rage and malice, and she pretends she cannot endure the sight of him whom awhile ago she could not endure out of her sight. Chaste and holy love will continue, though slighted; but sinful love, like Amnon's to Tamar, is easily changed into sinful hatred.
