20 But days will come when the bridegroom shall have been taken away from them, and then shall they fast in that day.
And he said to the disciples, Days are coming, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and shall not see [it].
For thy Maker is thy husband: Jehovah of hosts is his name, and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: the God of the whole earth shall he be called.
And there came one of the seven angels which had had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues, and spoke with me, saying, Come here, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
Let us rejoice and exult, and give him glory; for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife has made herself ready.
For I am jealous as to you with a jealousy [which is] of God; for I have espoused you unto one man, to present [you] a chaste virgin to Christ.
in stripes, in prisons, in riots, in labours, in watchings, in fastings,
And having chosen them elders in each assembly, having prayed with fastings, they committed them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.
And as they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me now Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. Then, having fasted and prayed, and having laid [their] hands on them, they let [them] go.
And having said these things he was taken up, they beholding [him], and a cloud received him out of their sight.
And the king will desire thy beauty; for he is thy Lord, and worship thou him.
I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I leave the world and go to the Father.
But I say the truth to you, It is profitable for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go I will send him to you.
for ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.
Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to him that has sent me. Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me], and where I am ye cannot come.
Then saith Jesus to them, All *ye* shall be offended in me during this night. For it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, even against the man [that is] my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered, and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

Christ, having been for some time preaching about in the country, here returns to Capernaum his head-quarters, and makes his appearance there, in hopes that by this time the talk and crowd would be somewhat abated. Now observe,

Christ had been put to justify himself in conversing with publicans and sinners: here he is put to justify his disciples; and in what they do according to his will he will justify them, and bear them out.
Two things Christ pleads in excuse of his disciples not fasting.
