4 Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto the ùGod of the gladness of my joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God, my God.
Awake, my glory; awake, lute and harp: I will wake the dawn.
For though the fig-tree shall not blossom, Neither shall fruit be in the vines; The labour of the olive-tree shall fail, And the fields shall yield no food; The flock shall be cut off from the fold, And there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
I will wash my hands in innocency, and will encompass thine altar, O Jehovah,
Give thanks unto Jehovah with the harp; sing psalms unto him with the ten-stringed lute.
I will go into thy house with burnt-offerings; I will perform my vows to thee, Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble. I will offer up unto thee burnt-offerings of fatted beasts, with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.
I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, my God; unto thee will I sing psalms with the harp, thou holy One of Israel. My lips shall exult when I sing psalms unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
What shall I render unto Jehovah, [for] all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of Jehovah. I will perform my vows unto Jehovah, yea, before all his people. Precious in the sight of Jehovah is the death of his saints. Yea, Jehovah! for I am thy servant; I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of Jehovah. I will perform my vows unto Jehovah, yea, before all his people, In the courts of Jehovah's house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Hallelujah!
I will greatly rejoice in Jehovah, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with the priestly turban, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

PSALM 43
Ps 43:1-5. Excepting the recurrence of the refrain, there is no good reason to suppose this a part of the preceding, though the scope is the same. It has always been placed separate.
1. Judge—or, "vindicate" (Ps 10:18).
plead, &c.—(Ps 35:1).
ungodly—neither in character or condition objects of God's favor (compare Ps 4:3).
2. God of my strength—by covenant relation my stronghold (Ps 18:1).
cast me off—in scorn.
because—or, "in," that is, in such circumstances of oppression.
3. light—as in Ps 27:1.
truth—or, "faithfulness" (Ps 25:5), manifest it by fulfilling promises. Light and truth are personified as messengers who will bring him to the privileged place of worship.
tabernacles—plural, in allusion to the various courts.
4. the altar—as the chief place of worship. The mention of the harp suggests the prominence of praise in his offering.
