3 and endurest, and hast borne for my name's sake, and hast not wearied:
For ye have need of endurance in order that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.
to them who, in patient continuance of good works, seek for glory and honour and incorruptibility, life eternal.
And not only [that], but we also boast in tribulations, knowing that tribulation works endurance; and endurance, experience; and experience, hope;
For as many things as have been written before have been written for our instruction, that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. Now the God of endurance and of encouragement give to you to be like-minded one toward another, according to Christ Jesus;
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Wherefore we faint not; but if indeed our outward man is consumed, yet the inward is renewed day by day.
Wherefore also we are zealous, whether present or absent, to be agreeable to him.
strengthened with all power according to the might of his glory unto all endurance and longsuffering with joy;
remembering unceasingly your work of faith, and labour of love, and enduring constancy of hope, of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father;
for, for this we labour and suffer reproach, because we hope in a living God, who is preserver of all men, specially of those that believe.
that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience have been inheritors of the promises.
Let *us* also therefore, having so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, laying aside every weight, and sin which so easily entangles us, run with endurance the race that lies before us,
knowing that the proving of your faith works endurance. But let endurance have [its] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Have patience, therefore, brethren, till the coming of the Lord. Behold, the labourer awaits the precious fruit of the earth, having patience for it until it receive [the] early and [the] latter rain. *Ye* also have patience: stablish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is drawn nigh. Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye be not judged. Behold, the judge stands before the door. Take [as] an example, brethren, of suffering and having patience, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of [the] Lord. Behold, we call them blessed who have endured. Ye have heard of the endurance of Job, and seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is full of tender compassion and pitiful.
in knowledge temperance, in temperance endurance, in endurance godliness,
I John, your brother and fellow-partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and patience, in Jesus, was in the island called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus.
And he spoke also a parable to them to the purport that they should always pray and not faint,
But that in the good ground, these are they who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
yea, I ask thee also, true yokefellow, assist them, who have contended along with me in the glad tidings, with Clement also, and my other fellow-labourers, whose names [are] in [the] book of life.
Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; confusion hath covered my face.
I will bear the indignation of Jehovah -- for I have sinned against him -- until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light; I shall behold his righteousness.
Salute Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who labour in [the] Lord. Salute Persis, the beloved, who has laboured much in [the] Lord.
in stripes, in prisons, in riots, in labours, in watchings, in fastings,
Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as being beside myself) *I* above measure [so]; in labours exceedingly abundant, in stripes to excess, in prisons exceedingly abundant, in deaths oft.
Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfil the law of the Christ.
For ye remember, brethren, our labour and toil: working night and day, not to be chargeable to any one of you, we have preached to you the glad tidings of God.
But the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of the Christ.
Let the elders who take the lead [among the saints] well be esteemed worthy of double honour, specially those labouring in word and teaching;
For God [is] not unrighteous to forget your work, and the love which ye have shewn to his name, having ministered to the saints, and [still] ministering.
For consider well him who endured so great contradiction from sinners against himself, that ye be not weary, fainting in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, wrestling against sin. And ye have quite forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: My son, despise not [the] chastening of [the] Lord, nor faint [when] reproved by him;
therefore let us go forth to him without the camp, bearing his reproach:
that *ye* should also be subject to such, and to every one joined in the work and labouring.

Commentary on Revelation 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
The apostle John, having in the foregoing chapter written the things which he had seen, now proceeds to write the things that are, according to the command of God (ch. 1:19), that is, the present state of the seven churches of Asia, with which he had a particular acquaintance, and for which he had a tender concern. He was directed to write to every one of them according to their present state and circumstances, and to inscribe every letter to the angel of that church, to the minister or rather ministry of that church, called angels because they are the messengers of God to mankind. In this chapter we have,
Rev 2:1-7
We have here,
Rev 2:8-11
We now proceed to the second epistle sent to another of the Asian churches, where, as before, observe,
Rev 2:12-17
Here also we are to consider,
Rev 2:18-29
The form of each epistle is very much the same; and in this, as the rest, we have to consider the inscription, contents, and conclusion.
