¹ Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

² And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

³ And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

⁴ Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

⁵ And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

⁷ And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

⁸ And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

⁹ And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

¹⁰ And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

¹¹ And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹² They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹³ So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

¹⁴ And inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

³ And the battle ^H4421 went sore ^H3513 against Saul, ^H7586 and the archers ^{H3384 H7198} hit ^H4672 him, and he was wounded ^H2342 of the archers. ^H3384

⁴ Then said ^H559 Saul ^H7586 to his armourbearer, ^{H5375 H3627} Draw ^H8025 thy sword, ^H2719 and thrust ^H1856 me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised ^H6189 come ^H935 and abuse ^H5953 me. But his armourbearer ^{H5375 H3627} would ^H14 not; for he was sore ^H3966 afraid. ^H3372 So Saul ^H7586 took ^H3947 a sword, ^H2719 and fell ^H5307 upon it.

⁵ And when his armourbearer ^{H5375 H3627} saw ^H7200 that Saul ^H7586 was dead, ^H4191 he fell ^H5307 likewise on the sword, ^H2719 and died. ^H4191

⁶ So Saul ^H7586 died, ^H4191 and his three ^H7969 sons, ^H1121 and all his house ^H1004 died ^H4191 together. ^H3162

⁷ And when all the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 that were in the valley ^H6010 saw ^H7200 that they fled, ^H5127 and that Saul ^H7586 and his sons ^H1121 were dead, ^H4191 then they forsook ^H5800 their cities, ^H5892 and fled: ^H5127 and the Philistines ^H6430 came ^H935 and dwelt ^H3427 in them.

⁸ And it came to pass on the morrow, ^H4283 when the Philistines ^H6430 came ^H935 to strip ^H6584 the slain, ^H2491 that they found ^H4672 Saul ^H7586 and his sons ^H1121 fallen ^H5307 in mount ^H2022 Gilboa. ^H1533

⁹ And when they had stripped ^H6584 him, they took ^H5375 his head, ^H7218 and his armour, ^H3627 and sent ^H7971 into the land ^H776 of the Philistines ^H6430 round about, ^H5439 to carry tidings ^H1319 unto their idols, ^H6091 and to the people. ^H5971

¹⁰ And they put ^H7760 his armour ^H3627 in the house ^H1004 of their gods, ^H430 and fastened ^H8628 his head ^H1538 in the temple ^H1004 of Dagon. ^H1712

¹¹ And when all Jabeshgilead ^{H3003 H1568} heard ^H8085 all that the Philistines ^H6430 had done ^H6213 to Saul, ^H7586

¹² They arose, ^H6965 all the valiant ^H2428 men, ^H376 and took away ^H5375 the body ^H1480 of Saul, ^H7586 and the bodies ^H1480 of his sons, ^H1121 and brought ^H935 them to Jabesh, ^H3003 and buried ^H6912 their bones ^H6106 under the oak ^H424 in Jabesh, ^H3003 and fasted ^H6684 seven ^H7651 days. ^H3117

¹³ So Saul ^H7586 died ^H4191 for his transgression ^H4604 which he committed ^H4603 against the LORD, ^H3068 even against the word ^H1697 of the LORD, ^H3068 which he kept ^H8104 not, and also for asking ^H7592 counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, ^H178 to enquire ^H1875 of it;

¹⁴ And enquired ^H1875 not of the LORD: ^H3068 therefore he slew ^H4191 him, and turned ^H5437 the kingdom ^H4410 unto David ^H1732 the son ^H1121 of Jesse. ^H3448

³ And the battle `is' heavy on Saul, and those shooting with the bow find him, and he is wounded by those shooting,

⁴ and Saul saith unto the bearer of his weapons, `Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest these uncircumcised come -- and have abused me.' And the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he feareth exceedingly, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it;

⁵ and the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul `is' dead, and falleth, he also, on the sword, and dieth;

⁶ and Saul dieth, and his three sons, and all his house -- together they died.

⁷ And all the men of Israel who `are' in the valley see that they have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake their cities and flee, and the Philistines come and dwell in them.

⁸ And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and find Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa,

⁹ and strip him, and bear away his head, and his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about to proclaim tidings `to' their idols and the people,

¹⁰ and put his weapons in the house of their gods, and his skull they have fixed in the house of Dagon.

¹¹ And all Jabesh-Gilead hear of all that the Philistines have done to Saul,

¹² and all the men of valour rise and bear away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and bring them in to Jabesh, and bury their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

¹³ And Saul dieth because of his trespass that he trespassed against Jehovah, against the word of Jehovah that he kept not, and also for asking at a familiar spirit -- to inquire, --

¹⁴ and he inquired not at Jehovah, and He putteth him to death, and turneth round the kingdom to David son of Jesse.

¹² all the valiant men arose, and took up the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the terebinth of Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹³ And Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah which he kept not, and also for having inquired of the spirit of Python, asking counsel of it;

¹⁴ and he asked not counsel of Jehovah; therefore he slew him, and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.

⁴ Then Saul said to the servant who had the care of his arms, Take your sword and put it through me, before these men without circumcision come and make sport of me. But his servant, full of fear, would not do so. Then Saul took out his sword, falling on it himself.

⁵ And when his servant saw that Saul was dead, he did the same, and came to his death.

⁶ So death overtook Saul and his three sons; all his family came to an end together.

⁷ And when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that the men of Israel had gone in flight and that Saul and his sons were dead, they went in flight away from their towns; and the Philistines came and took them for themselves.

⁸ Now the day after, when the Philistines came to take their goods from the dead, they saw Saul and his sons dead in Mount Gilboa.

⁹ And they took everything off him, and took his head and his war-dress, and sent word into the land of the Philistines round about to give the news to their gods and to the people.

¹⁰ And they put his war-dress in the house of their gods, and put up his head in the house of Dagon.

¹¹ And when the news came to Jabesh-gilead of what the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹² All the fighting-men came up and took away Saul's body and the bodies of his sons, and took them to Jabesh, and put their bones to rest under the oak-tree in Jabesh, and took no food for seven days.

¹³ So death came to Saul because of the sin which he did against the Lord, that is, because of the word of the Lord which he kept not; and because he went for directions to one who had an evil spirit,

¹⁴ And not to the Lord: for this reason, he put him to death and gave the kingdom to David, the son of Jesse.
