31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

31 But of the multitude many believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than those which this man hath done?

And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. And many believed on him there.
And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

The chief priests and Pharisees are here in a close cabal, contriving how to suppress Christ; though this was the great day of the feast, they attended not the religious services of the day, but left them to the vulgar, to whom it was common for those great ecclesiastics to consign and turn over the business of devotion, while they thought themselves better employed in the affairs of church-policy. They sat in the council-chamber, expecting Christ to be brought a prisoner to them, as they had issued out warrants for apprehending him, v. 32. Now here we are told,
