33 And Ahithophel H302 was the king's H4428 counsellor: H3289 and Hushai H2365 the Archite H757 was the king's H4428 companion: H7453
And Absalom H53 sent H7971 for Ahithophel H302 the Gilonite, H1526 David's H1732 counsellor, H3289 from his city, H5892 even from Giloh, H1542 while he offered H2076 sacrifices. H2077 And the conspiracy H7195 was strong; H533 for the people H5971 increased H7227 continually H1980 with Absalom. H53
So Hushai H2365 David's H1732 friend H7463 came H935 into the city, H5892 and Absalom H53 came H935 into Jerusalem. H3389
And it came to pass, when Hushai H2365 the Archite, H757 David's H1732 friend, H7463 was come H935 unto Absalom, H53 that Hushai H2365 said H559 unto Absalom, H53 God save H2421 the king, H4428 God save H2421 the king. H4428 And Absalom H53 said H559 to Hushai, H2365 Is this thy kindness H2617 to thy friend? H7453 why wentest H1980 thou not with thy friend? H7453
And the counsel H6098 of Ahithophel, H302 which he counselled H3289 in those days, H3117 was as if a man H376 had enquired H7592 at the oracle H1697 of God: H430 so was all the counsel H6098 of Ahithophel H302 both with David H1732 and with Absalom. H53
And when Ahithophel H302 saw H7200 that his counsel H6098 was not followed, H6213 he saddled H2280 his ass, H2543 and arose, H6965 and gat him home H3212 to his house, H1004 to his city, H5892 and put his household H1004 in order, H6680 and hanged H2614 himself, and died, H4191 and was buried H6912 in the sepulchre H6913 of his father. H1
But it was thou, a man H582 mine equal, H6187 my guide, H441 and mine acquaintance. H3045
Awake, H5782 O sword, H2719 against my shepherd, H7462 and against the man H1397 that is my fellow, H5997 saith H5002 the LORD H3068 of hosts: H6635 smite H5221 the shepherd, H7462 and the sheep H6629 shall be scattered: H6327 and I will turn H7725 mine hand H3027 upon the little ones. H6819

Commentary on 1 Chronicles 27 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 27
In this chapter we have the civil list, including the military,
1Ch 27:1-15
We have here an account of the regulation of the militia of the kingdom. David was himself a man of war, and had done great things with the sword; he had brought into the field great armies. Now here we are told how he marshalled them when God had given him rest from all his enemies. He did not keep them all together, for that would have been a hardship on them and the country; yet he did not disband and disperse them all, for then he would have left his kingdom naked, and his people would have forgotten the arts of war, wherein they had been instructed. He therefore contrived to keep up a constant force, and yet not a standing army. The model is very prudent.
