35 And G1161 if G1487 they will G2309 learn G3129 any thing, G5100 let them ask G1905 their G2398 husbands G435 at G1722 home: G3624 for G1063 it is G2076 a shame G149 for women G1135 to speak G2980 in G1722 the church. G1577
For G1063 if G1487 the woman G1135 be G2619 not G3756 covered, G2619 let her G2751 also G2532 be shorn: G2751 but G1161 if G1487 it be a shame G149 for a woman G1135 to be shorn G2751 or G2228 shaven, G3587 let her be covered. G2619
Doth G2228 not even G3761 nature G5449 itself G846 teach G1321 you, G5209 that, G3754 if G1437 G3303 a man G435 have long hair, G2863 it is G2076 a shame G819 unto him? G846
For G1063 it is G2076 a shame G149 even G2532 to speak G3004 of those things G2931 which are done G1096 of G5259 them G846 in secret. G2931
Husbands, G435 love G25 your G1438 wives, G1135 even as G2531 Christ G5547 also G2532 loved G25 the church, G1577 and G2532 gave G3860 himself G1438 for G5228 it; G846 That G2443 he might sanctify G37 and cleanse it G2511 with the washing G3067 of water G5204 by G1722 the word, G4487 That G2443 he might present G3936 it G846 to himself G1438 a glorious G1741 church, G1577 not G3361 having G2192 spot, G4696 or G2228 wrinkle, G4512 or G2228 any G5100 such thing; G5108 but G235 that G2443 it should be G5600 holy G40 and G2532 without blemish. G299
Likewise, G3668 ye husbands, G435 dwell with G4924 them according to G2596 knowledge, G1108 giving G632 honour G5092 unto the wife, G1134 as G5613 unto the weaker G772 vessel, G4632 and G2532 as G5613 being heirs together G4789 of the grace G5485 of life; G2222 that G1519 your G5216 prayers G4335 be G1581 not G3361 hindered. Commentary on 1 Corinthians 14 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 14
In this chapter the apostle directs them about the use of their spiritual gifts, preferring those that are best and fitted to do the greatest good.
1Cr 14:1-5
The apostle, in the foregoing chapter, had himself preferred, and advised the Corinthians to prefer, Christian charity to all spiritual gifts. Here he teaches them, among spiritual gifts, which they should prefer, and by what rules they should make comparison. He begins the chapter,
1Cr 14:6-14
In this paragraph he goes on to show how vain a thing the ostentation of speaking unknown and unintelligible language must be. It was altogether unedifying and unprofitable (v. 6): If I come to you speaking with tongues, what will it profit you, unless I speak to you by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? It would signify nothing to utter any of these in an unknown tongue. An apostle, with all his furniture, could not edify, unless he spoke to the capacity of his hearers. New revelations, the most clear explications of old ones, the most instructive discourses in themselves, would be unprofitable in a language not understood. Nay, interpretations of scripture made in an unknown tongue would need to be interpreted over again, before they could be of any use.
1Cr 14:15-20
The apostle here sums up the argument hitherto, and,
