13 I write G1125 unto you, G5213 fathers, G3962 because G3754 ye have known G1097 him that is from G575 the beginning. G746 I write G1125 unto you, G5213 young men, G3495 because G3754 ye have overcome G3528 the wicked one. G4190 I write G1125 unto you, G5213 little children, G3813 because G3754 ye have known G1097 the Father. G3962
I have written G1125 unto you, G5213 fathers, G3962 because G3754 ye have known G1097 him that is from G575 the beginning. G746 I have written G1125 unto you, G5213 young men, G3495 because G3754 ye are G2075 strong, G2478 and G2532 the word G3056 of God G2316 abideth G3306 in G1722 you, G5213 and G2532 ye have overcome G3528 the wicked one. G4190
That which G3739 was G2258 from G575 the beginning, G746 which G3739 we have heard, G191 which G3739 we have seen G3708 with our G2257 eyes, G3788 which G3739 we have looked upon, G2300 and G2532 our G2257 hands G5495 have handled, G5584 of G4012 the Word G3056 of life; G2222
All things G3956 are delivered G3860 to me G3427 of G5259 my G3450 Father: G3962 and G2532 no man G3762 knoweth G1097 who G5101 the Son G5207 is, G2076 but G1508 the Father; G3962 and G2532 who G5101 the Father G3962 is, G2076 but G1508 the Son, G5207 and G2532 he to whom G3739 G1437 the Son G5207 will G1014 reveal G601 him.
For G3754 whatsoever G3956 is born G1080 of G1537 God G2316 overcometh G3528 the world: G2889 and G2532 this G3778 is G2076 the victory G3529 that overcometh G3528 the world, G2889 even our G2257 faith. G4102 Who G5101 is G2076 he that overcometh G3528 the world, G2889 but G1508 he that believeth G4100 that G3754 Jesus G2424 is G2076 the Son G5207 of God? G2316
Not G3756 as G2531 Cain, G2535 who was G2258 of G1537 that wicked one, G4190 and G2532 slew G4969 his G846 brother. G80 And G2532 wherefore G5484 G5101 slew G4969 he him? G846 Because G3754 his own G846 works G2041 were G2258 evil, G4190 and G1161 his G846 brother's G80 righteous. G1342
Finally, G3063 my G3450 brethren, G80 be strong G1743 in G1722 the Lord, G2962 and G2532 in G1722 the power G2904 of his G846 might. G2479 Put on G1746 the whole armour G3833 of God, G2316 that G4314 ye G5209 may be able G1410 to stand G2476 against G4314 the wiles G3180 of the devil. G1228 For G3754 we G2254 wrestle G3823 not G3756 against G2076 G4314 flesh G4561 and G2532 blood, G129 but G235 against G4314 principalities, G746 against G4314 powers, G1849 against G4314 the rulers G2888 of the darkness G4655 of this G5127 world, G165 against G4314 spiritual G4152 wickedness G4189 in G1722 high G2032 places.
And G1161 we know G1492 that G3754 the Son G5207 of God G2316 is come, G2240 and G2532 hath given G1325 us G2254 an understanding, G1271 that G2443 we may know G1097 him that is true, G228 and G2532 we are G2070 in G1722 him that is true, G228 even in G1722 his G846 Son G5207 Jesus G2424 Christ. G5547 This G3778 is G2076 the true G228 God, G2316 and G2532 eternal G166 life. G2222
I write G1125 unto you, G5213 little children, G5040 because G3754 your sins G266 are forgiven G863 you G5213 for G1223 his G846 name's G3686 sake. G1223
And G2532 hereby G1722 G5129 we do know G1097 that G3754 we know G1097 him, G846 if G1437 we keep G5083 his G846 commandments. G1785 He that saith, G3004 I know G1097 him, G846 and G2532 keepeth G5083 not G3361 his G846 commandments, G1785 is G2076 a liar, G5583 and G2532 the truth G225 is G2076 not G3756 in G1722 him. G5129
My G3450 little children, G5040 these things G5023 write I G1125 unto you, G5213 that G3363 ye sin G264 not. G3363 And G2532 if G1437 any man G5100 sin, G264 we have G2192 an advocate G3875 with G4314 the Father, G3962 Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 the righteous: G1342
Be sober, G3525 be vigilant; G1127 because G3754 your G5216 adversary G476 the devil, G1228 as G5613 a roaring G5612 lion, G3023 walketh about, G4043 seeking G2212 whom G5101 he may devour: G2666 Whom G3739 resist G436 stedfast G4731 in the faith, G4102 knowing G1492 that the same G846 afflictions G3804 are accomplished G2005 in your G5216 brethren G81 that are in G1722 the world. G2889
Rebuke G1969 not G3361 an elder, G4245 but G235 intreat G3870 him as G5613 a father; G3962 and the younger men G3501 as G5613 brethren; G80
Before the mountains H2022 were brought forth, H3205 or ever thou hadst formed H2342 the earth H776 and the world, H8398 even from everlasting H5769 to H5704 everlasting, H5769 thou art God. H410
For G3754 God, G2316 who G3588 commanded G2036 the light G5457 to shine G2989 out of G1537 darkness, G4655 G3739 hath shined G2989 in G1722 our G2257 hearts, G2588 to G4314 give the light G5462 of the knowledge G1108 of the glory G1391 of God G2316 in G1722 the face G4383 of Jesus G2424 Christ. G5547
That G2443 they all G3956 may be G5600 one; G1520 as G2531 thou, G4771 Father, G3962 art in G1722 me, G1698 and I G2504 in G1722 thee, G4671 that G2443 they G846 also G2532 may be G5600 one G1520 in G1722 us: G2254 that G2443 the world G2889 may believe G4100 that G3754 thou G4771 hast sent G649 me. G3165
Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Have I been G1510 so long G5118 time G5550 with G3326 you, G5216 and yet G2532 hast thou G1097 not G3756 known G1097 me, G3165 Philip? G5376 he that hath seen G3708 me G1691 hath seen G3708 the Father; G3962 and G2532 how G4459 sayest G3004 thou G4771 then, Shew G1166 us G2254 the Father? G3962
Jesus G2424 answered, G611 If G1437 I G1473 honour G1392 myself, G1683 my G3450 honour G1391 is G2076 nothing: G3762 it is G2076 my G3450 Father G3962 that honoureth G1392 me; G3165 of whom G3739 ye G5210 say, G3004 that G3754 he is G2076 your G5216 God: G2316 Yet G2532 ye have G1097 not G3756 known G1097 him; G846 but G1161 I G1473 know G1492 him: G846 and G2532 if G1437 I should say, G2036 G3754 I know G1492 him G846 not, G3756 I shall be G2071 a liar G5583 like G3664 unto you: G5216 but G235 I know G1492 him, G846 and G2532 keep G5083 his G846 saying. G3056
Then G3767 said they G3004 unto him, G846 Where G4226 is G2076 thy G4675 Father? G3962 Jesus G2424 answered, G611 Ye G1492 neither G3777 know G1492 me, G1691 nor G3777 my G3450 Father: G3962 if G1487 ye had known G1492 me, G1691 G2532 ye should have known G1492 my G3450 Father G3962 also. G302
G1161 The field G68 is G2076 the world; G2889 G1161 the good G2570 seed G4690 are G3778 G1526 the children G5207 of the kingdom; G932 but G1161 the tares G2215 are G1526 the children G5207 of the wicked G4190 one;
When any G3956 one heareth G191 the word G3056 of the kingdom, G932 and G2532 understandeth G4920 it not, G3361 then cometh G2064 the wicked G4190 one, and G2532 catcheth away G726 that which G3588 was sown G4687 in G1722 his G846 heart. G2588 This G3778 is G2076 he which received seed G4687 by G3844 the way side. G3598
All things G3956 are delivered G3860 unto me G3427 of G5259 my G3450 Father: G3962 and G2532 no man G3762 knoweth G1921 the Son, G5207 but G1508 the Father; G3962 neither G3761 knoweth G1921 any man G5100 the Father, G3962 save G1508 the Son, G5207 and he G2532 to G3739 whomsoever G1437 the Son G5207 will G1014 reveal G601 him.
For how great is his goodness, H2898 and how great is his beauty! H3308 corn H1715 shall make the young men H970 cheerful, H5107 and new wine H8492 the maids. H1330
Both young men, H970 and maidens; H1330 old men, H2205 and children: H5288

Commentary on 1 John 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
Here the apostle encourages against sins of infirmity (v. 1, 2), shows the true knowledge and love of God (v. 3-6), renews the precept of fraternal love (v. 7-11), addresses the several ages of Christians (v. 12-14), warns against worldly love (v. 15-17), against seducers (v. 18, 19), shows the security of true Christians (v. 20-27), and advises to abide in Christ (v. 28, 29).
1Jo 2:1-2
These verses relate to the concluding subject of the foregoing chapter, in which the apostle proceeds upon the supposition of the real Christian's sin. And here he gives them both dissuasion and support.
1Jo 2:3-6
These verses may seem to relate to the seventh verse of the former chapter, between which and these verses there occurred an incidental discourse concerning the believer's duty and relief in case of sin, occasioned by the mention of one of the believer's privileges-his being cleansed from sin by the Mediator's blood. In that verse the apostle asserts the beneficial consequence of walking in the light: "We have then fellowship with one another, such divine fellowship and communion as are the prerogative of the church of Christ.' Here now succeeds the trial or test of our light and of our love.
1Jo 2:7-11
The seventh verse may be supposed either to look backward to what immediately preceded (and then it is walking as Christ walked that is here represented as no new, but an old commandment; it is that which the apostles would certainly inculcate wherever they brought Christ's gospel), or to look forward to what the apostle is now going to recommend, and that is the law of fraternal love; this is the message heard from the beginning (ch. 3:11), and the old commandment, 2 Jn. 5. Now, while the apostle addresses himself to the recommendation of such a practice, he is ready to give an instance thereof in his affectionate appellation: "Brethren, you who are dear to me in the bond of that love to which I would solicit you;' and so the precept of fraternal love is recommended,
1Jo 2:12-17
This new command of holy love, with the incentives thereto, may possibly be directed to the several ranks of disciples that are here accosted. The several graduates in the Christian university, the catholic church, must be sure to preserve the bond of sacred love. Or, there being an important dehortation and dissuasion to follow, without the observance of which vital religion in the love of God and love of the brethren cannot subsist, the apostle may justly seem to preface it with a solemn address to the several forms or orders in the school of Christ: let the infants or minors, the adults, the seniors (or the adepti, the teleioi, the most perfect), in the Christian institution, know that they must not love this world; and so,
From the whole of these verses we should observe the purity and spirituality of the apostolical doctrine. The animal life must be subjected to the divine; the body with its affections should be swayed by religion, or the victorious love of God.

Here,
1Jo 2:28-29
From the blessing of the sacred unction the apostle proceeds in his advice and exhortation to constancy in and with Christ: And now, little children, abide in him, v. 28. The apostle repeats his kind appellation, little children, which I suppose does not so much denote their diminutiveness as his affection, and therefore, I judge, may be rendered dear children. He would persuade by love, and prevail by endearment as well as by reason. "Not only the love of Christ, but the love of you, constrains us to inculcate your perseverance, and that you would abide in him, in the truth relating to his person, and in your union with him and allegiance to him.' Evangelical privileges are obligatory to evangelical duties; and those that are anointed by the Lord Jesus are highly obliged to abide with him in opposition to all adversaries whatever. This duty of perseverance and constancy in trying times is strongly urged by the two following considerations:-
