14 And G2532 this G3778 is G2076 the confidence G3954 that G3739 we have G2192 in G4314 him, G846 that, G3754 if G1437 we ask G154 any thing G5100 according G2596 to his G846 will, G2307 he heareth G191 us: G2257
Beloved, G27 if G3362 our G2257 heart G2588 condemn G2607 us G2257 not, G3362 then have we G2192 confidence G3954 toward G4314 God. G2316 And G2532 whatsoever G3739 G1437 we ask, G154 we receive G2983 of G3844 him, G846 because G3754 we keep G5083 his G846 commandments, G1785 and G2532 do G4160 those things that are pleasing G701 in his G846 sight. G1799
Ye ask, G154 and G2532 receive G2983 not, G3756 because G1360 ye ask G154 amiss, G2560 that G2443 ye may consume G1159 it upon G1722 your G5216 lusts. G2237
G1161 If any G1536 of you G5216 lack G3007 wisdom, G4678 let him ask G154 of G3844 God, G2316 that giveth G1325 to all G3956 men liberally, G574 and G2532 upbraideth G3679 not; G3361 and G2532 it shall be given G1325 him. G846 But G1161 let him ask G154 in G1722 faith, G4102 nothing G3367 wavering. G1252 For G1063 he that wavereth G1252 is like G1503 a wave G2830 of the sea G2281 driven with the wind G416 and G2532 tossed. G4494
The righteous cry, H6817 and the LORD H3068 heareth, H8085 and delivereth H5337 them out of all their troubles. H6869
And G2532 all things, G3956 whatsoever G302 G3745 ye shall ask G154 in G1722 prayer, G4335 believing, G4100 ye shall receive. G2983
For the LORD H3068 heareth H8085 the poor, H34 and despiseth H959 not his prisoners. H615
For G1063 we are made G1096 partakers G3353 of Christ, G5547 if G1437 G4007 we hold G2722 the beginning G746 of our confidence G5287 stedfast G949 unto G3360 the end; G5056
Ask, G154 and G2532 it shall be given G1325 you; G5213 seek, G2212 and G2532 ye shall find; G2147 knock, G2925 and G2532 it shall be opened G455 unto you: G5213 For G1063 every one G3956 that asketh G154 receiveth; G2983 and G2532 he that seeketh G2212 findeth; G2147 and G2532 to him that knocketh G2925 it shall be opened. G455 Or G2228 what G5101 man G444 is G2076 there of G1537 you, G5216 whom G3739 if G1437 his G846 son G5207 ask G154 bread, G740 will he give G3361 G1929 him G846 a stone? G3037 Or G2532 if G1437 he ask G154 a fish, G2486 will he give G3361 G1929 him G846 a serpent? G3789 If G1487 ye G5210 then, G3767 being G5607 evil, G4190 know G1492 how to give G1325 good G18 gifts G1390 unto your G5216 children, G5043 how much G4214 more G3123 shall your G5216 Father G3962 which G3588 is in G1722 heaven G3772 give G1325 good things G18 to them that ask G154 him? Commentary on 1 John 5 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 5
In this chapter the apostle asserts,
1Jo 5:1-5
1Jo 5:6-9
The faith of the Christian believer (or the believer in Christ) being thus mighty and victorious, it had need to be well founded, to be furnished with unquestionable celestial evidence concerning the divine mission, authority, and office of the Lord Jesus; and it is so; he brings his credentials along with him, and he brings them in a way by which he came and in the witness that attends him.
1Jo 5:10-13
