16 As G5613 free, G1658 and G2532 not G3361 using G2192 your liberty G1657 for G5613 a cloke G1942 of maliciousness, G2549 but G235 as G5613 the servants G1401 of God. G2316
But G1161 now G3570 being made free G1659 from G575 sin, G266 and G1161 become servants G1402 to God, G2316 ye have G2192 your G5216 fruit G2590 unto G1519 holiness, G38 and G1161 the end G5056 everlasting G166 life. G2222
For G1063 he that is called G2564 in G1722 the Lord, G2962 being a servant, G1401 is G2076 the Lord's G2962 freeman: G558 likewise G3668 also G2532 he that is called, G2564 being free, G1658 is G2076 Christ's G5547 servant. G1401
But G1161 whoso looketh G3879 into G1519 the perfect G5046 law G3551 of liberty, G1657 and G2532 continueth G3887 therein, he G3778 being G1096 not G3756 a forgetful G1953 hearer, G202 but G235 a doer G4163 of the work, G2041 this man G3778 shall be G2071 blessed G3107 in G1722 his G846 deed. G4162
For, G1063 brethren, G80 ye G5210 have been called G2564 unto G1909 liberty; G1657 only G3440 use not G3361 liberty G1657 for G1519 an occasion G874 to the flesh, G4561 but G235 by G1223 love G26 serve G1398 one another. G240
But G1161 woe G3759 unto you, G5213 scribes G1122 and G2532 Pharisees, G5330 hypocrites! G5273 for G3754 ye shut up G2808 the kingdom G932 of heaven G3772 against G1715 men: G444 for G1063 ye G5210 neither G3761 go in G1525 yourselves, neither G3756 suffer ye G863 them that are entering G1525 to go in. G1525
And G2532 ye shall know G1097 the truth, G225 and G2532 the truth G225 shall make G1659 you G5209 free. G1659 They answered G611 him, G846 We be G2070 Abraham's G11 seed, G4690 and G2532 were G1398 never G4455 in bondage G1398 to any man: G3762 how G4459 sayest G3004 thou, G4771 G3754 Ye shall be made G1096 free? G1658 Jesus G2424 answered G611 them, G846 Verily, G281 verily, G281 I say G3004 unto you, G5213 G3754 Whosoever G3956 committeth G4160 sin G266 is G2076 the servant G1401 of sin. G266 And G1161 the servant G1401 abideth G3306 not G3756 in G1722 the house G3614 for G1519 ever: G165 but the Son G5207 abideth G3306 G1519 ever. G165 If G1437 the Son G5207 therefore G3767 shall make G1659 you G5209 free, G1659 ye shall be G2071 free G1658 indeed. G3689
If G1508 I had G2064 not G1508 come G2064 and G2532 spoken G2980 unto them, G846 they had G2192 not G3756 had G2192 sin: G266 but G1161 now G3568 they have G2192 no G3756 cloke G4392 for G4012 their G846 sin. G266
Not G3361 with G2596 eyeservice, G3787 as G5613 menpleasers; G441 but G235 as G5613 the servants G1401 of Christ, G5547 doing G4160 the will G2307 of God G2316 from G1537 the heart; G5590
So G3779 speak ye, G2980 and G2532 so G3779 do, G4160 as G5613 they that shall be G3195 judged G2919 by G1223 the law G3551 of liberty. G1657
While they promise G1861 them G846 liberty, G1657 they themselves G846 are G5225 the servants G1401 of corruption: G5356 for G1063 of whom G3739 a man G5100 is overcome, G2274 G2532 of the same G5129 is he brought in bondage. G1402
For G1063 there are certain G5100 men G444 crept in unawares, G3921 who G3588 were before G4270 of old G3819 ordained G4270 to G1519 this G5124 condemnation, G2917 ungodly men, G765 turning G3346 the grace G5485 of our G2257 God G2316 into G1519 lasciviousness, G766 and G2532 denying G720 the only G3441 Lord G1203 God, G2316 and G2532 our G2257 Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ. Commentary on 1 Peter 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
The general exhortation to holiness is continued, and enforced by several reasons taken from the foundation on which Christians are built, Jesus Christ, and from their spiritual blessings and privileges in him. The means of obtaining it, the word of God, is recommended, and all contrary qualities are condemned (v. 1-12). Particular directions are given how subjects ought to obey the magistrates, and servants their masters, patiently suffering in well doing, in imitation of Christ (v. 13-25).
1Pe 2:1-3
The holy apostle has been recommending mutual charity, and setting forth the excellences of the word of God, calling it an incorruptible seed, and saying that it liveth and abideth for ever. He pursues his discourse, and very properly comes in with this necessary advice, Wherefore laying aside all malice, etc. These are such sins as both destroy charity and hinder the efficacy of the word, and consequently they prevent our regeneration.
1Pe 2:4-12
1Pe 2:13-25
The general rule of a Christian conversation is this, it must be honest, which it cannot be if there be not a conscientious discharge of all relative duties. The apostle here particularly treats of these distinctly.
