10 For G1063 he that will G2309 love G25 life, G2222 and G2532 see G1492 good G18 days, G2250 let him refrain G3973 his G846 tongue G1100 from G575 evil, G2556 and G2532 his G846 lips G5491 that they speak G2980 no G3361 guile: G1388
What man H376 is he that desireth H2655 life, H2416 and loveth H157 many days, H3117 that he may see H7200 good? H2896 Keep H5341 thy tongue H3956 from evil, H7451 and thy lips H8193 from speaking H1696 guile. H4820 Depart H5493 from evil, H7451 and do H6213 good; H2896 seek H1245 peace, H7965 and pursue H7291 it. The eyes H5869 of the LORD H3068 are upon the righteous, H6662 and his ears H241 are open unto their cry. H7775 The face H6440 of the LORD H3068 is against them that do H6213 evil, H7451 to cut off H3772 the remembrance H2143 of them from the earth. H776
And G2532 in G1722 their G846 mouth G4750 was found G2147 no G3756 guile: G1388 for G1063 they are G1526 without fault G299 before G1799 the throne G2362 of God. G2316
My G3450 brethren, G80 be G1096 not G3361 many G4183 masters, G1320 knowing G1492 that G3754 we shall receive G2983 the greater G3187 condemnation. G2917 For G1063 in many things G4183 we offend G4417 all. G537 If any man G1536 offend G4417 not G3756 in G1722 word, G3056 the same G3778 is a perfect G5046 man, G435 and able G1415 also G2532 to bridle G5468 the whole G3650 body. G4983 Behold, G2400 we put G906 bits G5469 in G1519 the horses' G2462 mouths, G4750 that G4314 they G846 may obey G3982 us; G2254 and G2532 we turn about G3329 their G846 whole G3650 body. G4983 Behold G2400 also G2532 the ships, G4143 which though they be G5607 so great, G5082 and G2532 are driven G1643 of G5259 fierce G4642 winds, G417 yet are they turned about G3329 with G5259 a very small G1646 helm, G4079 whithersoever G3699 G302 the governor G2116 listeth. G3730 G1014 Even G2532 so G3779 the tongue G1100 is G2076 a little G3398 member, G3196 and G2532 boasteth great things. G3166 Behold, G2400 how great G2245 a matter G5208 a little G3641 fire G4442 kindleth! G381 And G2532 the tongue G1100 is a fire, G4442 a world G2889 of iniquity: G93 so G3779 is G2525 the tongue G1100 among G1722 our G2257 members, G3196 that it defileth G4695 the whole G3650 body, G4983 and G2532 setteth on fire G5394 the course G5164 of nature; G1078 and G2532 it is set on fire G5394 of G5259 hell. G1067 For G1063 every G3956 kind G5449 of beasts, G2342 and G5037 G2532 of birds, G4071 and G5037 of serpents, G2062 and G2532 of things in the sea, G1724 is tamed, G1150 and G2532 hath been tamed G1150 of mankind: G5449 G442 But G1161 the tongue G1100 can G1410 no G3762 man G444 tame; G1150 it is an unruly G183 evil, G2556 full G3324 of deadly G2287 poison. G2447 Therewith G1722 G846 bless we G2127 God, G2316 even G2532 the Father; G3962 and G2532 therewith G1722 G846 curse we G2672 men, G444 which G3588 are made G1096 after G2596 the similitude G3669 of God. G2316 Out of G1537 the same G846 mouth G4750 proceedeth G1831 blessing G2129 and G2532 cursing. G2671 My G3450 brethren, G80 these things G5023 ought G5534 not G3756 so G3779 to be. G1096
For whoso findeth H4672 me findeth H4672 H4672 life, H2416 and shall obtain H6329 favour H7522 of the LORD. H3068
For they are life H2416 unto those that find H4672 them, and health H4832 to all their flesh. H1320
For it is not a vain H7386 thing H1697 for you; because it is your life: H2416 and through this thing H1697 ye shall prolong H748 your days H3117 in the land, H127 whither ye go over H5674 Jordan H3383 to possess H3423 it.
For G1063 whosoever G3739 G302 will G2309 save G4982 his G846 life G5590 shall lose G622 it; G846 but G1161 whosoever G3739 G302 shall lose G622 his G846 life G5590 for G1752 my sake G1700 and G2532 the gospel's, G2098 the same G3778 shall save G4982 it. G846
But G1161 blessed G3107 are your G5216 eyes, G3788 for G3754 they see: G991 and G2532 your G5216 ears, G3775 for G3754 they hear. G191 For G1063 verily G281 I say G3004 unto you, G5213 That G3754 many G4183 prophets G4396 and G2532 righteous G1342 men have desired G1937 to see G1492 those things which G3739 ye see, G991 and G2532 have G1492 not G3756 seen G1492 them; and G2532 to hear G191 those things which G3739 ye hear, G191 and G2532 have G191 not G3756 heard G191 them.
I sought H8446 in mine heart H3820 to give H4900 myself H1320 unto wine, H3196 yet acquainting H5090 mine heart H3820 with wisdom; H2451 and to lay hold H270 on folly, H5531 till I might see H7200 what was that good H2896 for the sons H1121 of men, H120 which they should do H6213 under the heaven H8064 all H4557 the days H3117 of their life. H2416
He shall go H935 to the generation H1755 of his fathers; H1 they shall never H3808 H5331 see H7200 light. H216
Now my days H3117 are swifter H7043 than a post: H7323 they flee away, H1272 they see H7200 no good. H2896

Commentary on 1 Peter 3 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 3
Wherein the apostle describes the duties of husbands and wives one to another, beginning with the duty of the wife (v. 1-7). He exhorts Christians to unity, love, compassion, peace, and patience under sufferings; to oppose the slanders of their enemies, not by returning evil for evil, or railing for railing, but by blessing; by a ready account of their faith and hope, and by keeping a good conscience (v. 8-17). To encourage them to this, he proposes the example of Christ, who suffered, the just for the unjust, but yet punished the old world for their disobedience, and saved the few who were faithful in the days of Noah (v. 18-22).
1Pe 3:1-7
The apostle having treated of the duties of subjects to their sovereigns, and of servants to their masters, proceeds to explain the duty of husbands and wives.
1Pe 3:8-15
The apostle here passes from special to more general exhortations.
1Pe 3:16-17
The confession of a Christian's faith cannot credibly be supported but by the two means here specified-a good conscience and a good conversation. conscience is good when it does its office well, when it is kept pure and uncorrupt, and clear from guilt; then it will justify you, though men accuse you. A good conversation in Christ is a holy life, according to the doctrine and example of Christ. "Look well to your conscience, and to your conversation; and then, though men speak evil of you, and falsely accuse you as evil-doers, you will clear yourselves, and bring them to shame. Perhaps you may think it hard to suffer for well-doing, for keeping a good conscience and a good conversation; but be not discouraged, for it is better for you, though worse for your enemies, that you suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.' Here,
1Pe 3:21-22
Noah's salvation in the ark upon the water prefigured the salvation of all good Christians in the church by baptism; that temporal salvation by the ark was a type, the antitype whereunto is the eternal salvation of believers by baptism, to prevent mistakes about which the apostle,
