3 Whose G3739 adorning G2889 let it G2077 not G3756 be G2077 that outward G1855 adorning of plaiting G1708 the hair, G2359 and G2532 of wearing G4025 of gold, G5553 or G2228 of putting on G1745 of apparel; G2440
In like manner G5615 also, G2532 that women G1135 adorn G2885 themselves G1438 in G1722 modest G2887 apparel, G2689 with G3326 shamefacedness G127 and G2532 sobriety; G4997 not G3361 with G1722 broided hair, G4117 or G2228 gold, G5557 or G2228 pearls, G3135 or G2228 costly G4185 array; G2441 But G235 (which G3739 becometh G4241 women G1135 professing G1861 godliness) G2317 with G1223 good G18 works. G2041
In that day H3117 the Lord H136 will take away H5493 the bravery H8597 of their tinkling ornaments H5914 about their feet, and their cauls, H7636 and their round tires like the moon, H7720 The chains, H5188 and the bracelets, H8285 and the mufflers, H7479 The bonnets, H6287 and the ornaments of the legs, H6807 and the headbands, H7196 and the tablets, H5315 H1004 and the earrings, H3908 The rings, H2885 and nose H639 jewels, H5141 The changeable suits of apparel, H4254 and the mantles, H4595 and the wimples, H4304 and the crisping pins, H2754 The glasses, H1549 and the fine linen, H5466 and the hoods, H6797 and the vails. H7289 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell H1314 there shall be stink; H4716 and instead of a girdle H2290 a rent; H5364 and instead of well set H4639 hair H4748 baldness; H7144 and instead of a stomacher H6614 a girding H4228 of sackcloth; H8242 and burning H3587 instead of beauty. H3308
The aged women G4247 likewise, G5615 that they be in G1722 behaviour G2688 as becometh holiness, G2412 not G3361 false accusers, G1228 not G3361 given G1402 to much G4183 wine, G3631 teachers of good things; G2567 That G2443 they may teach G4994 the young women G3501 to be G1511 sober, G4994 to love their husbands, G5362 to love their children, G5388 To be discreet, G4998 chaste, G53 keepers at home, G3626 good, G18 obedient G5293 to their own G2398 husbands, G435 that G3363 the word G3056 of God G2316 be G987 not G3363 blasphemed. G987 Young men G3501 likewise G5615 exhort G3870 to be sober minded. G4993 In G4012 all things G3956 shewing G3930 thyself G4572 a pattern G5179 of good G2570 works: G2041 in G1722 doctrine G1319 shewing uncorruptness, G90 gravity, G4587 sincerity, G861 Sound G5199 speech, G3056 that cannot be condemned; G176 that G2443 he that is of G1537 the contrary part G1727 may be ashamed, G1788 having G2192 no G3367 evil G5337 thing G3367 to say G3004 of G4012 you. G5216 Exhort servants G1401 to be obedient G5293 unto their own G2398 masters, G1203 and to G1511 please them well G2101 in G1722 all G3956 things; not G3361 answering again; G483 Not G3361 purloining, G3557 but G235 shewing G1731 all G3956 good G18 fidelity; G4102 that G2443 they may adorn G2885 the doctrine G1319 of God G2316 our G2257 Saviour G4990 in G1722 all things. G3956 For G1063 the grace G5485 of God G2316 that bringeth salvation G4992 hath appeared G2014 to all G3956 men, G444 Teaching G3811 us G2248 that, G2443 denying G720 ungodliness G763 and G2532 worldly G2886 lusts, G1939 we should live G2198 soberly, G4996 G2532 righteously, G1346 and G2532 godly, G2153 in G1722 this present G3568 world; G165 Looking for G4327 that blessed G3107 hope, G1680 and G2532 the glorious G1391 appearing G2015 of the great G3173 God G2316 and G2532 our G2257 Saviour G4990 Jesus G2424 Christ; G5547 Who G3739 gave G1325 himself G1438 for G5228 us, G2257 that G2443 he might redeem G3084 us G2248 from G575 all G3956 iniquity, G458 and G2532 purify G2511 unto himself G1438 a peculiar G4041 people, G2992 zealous G2207 of good G2570 works. G2041 These things G5023 speak, G2980 and G2532 exhort, G3870 and G2532 rebuke G1651 with G3326 all G3956 authority. G2003 Let G4065 no man G3367 despise G4065 thee. G4675
Kings' H4428 daughters H1323 were among thy honourable women: H3368 upon thy right hand H3225 did stand H5324 the queen H7694 in gold H3800 of Ophir. H211
And G2532 be G4964 not G3361 conformed G4964 to this G5129 world: G165 but G235 be ye transformed G3339 by the renewing G342 of your G5216 mind, G3563 that G1519 ye G5209 may prove G1381 what G5101 is that good, G18 and G2532 acceptable, G2101 and G2532 perfect, G5046 will G2307 of God. G2316
I have caused H5414 thee to multiply H7233 as the bud H6780 of the field, H7704 and thou hast increased H7235 and waxen great, H1431 and thou art come H935 to excellent H5716 ornaments: H5716 thy breasts H7699 are fashioned, H3559 and thine hair H8181 is grown, H6779 whereas thou wast naked H5903 and bare. H6181 Now when I passed H5674 by thee, and looked H7200 upon thee, behold, thy time H6256 was the time H6256 of love; H1730 and I spread H6566 my skirt H3671 over thee, and covered H3680 thy nakedness: H6172 yea, I sware H7650 unto thee, and entered H935 into a covenant H1285 with thee, saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD, H3069 and thou becamest mine. Then washed H7364 I thee with water; H4325 yea, I throughly washed away H7857 thy blood H1818 from thee, and I anointed H5480 thee with oil. H8081 I clothed H3847 thee also with broidered work, H7553 and shod H5274 thee with badgers' skin, H8476 and I girded H2280 thee about with fine linen, H8336 and I covered H3680 thee with silk. H4897 I decked H5710 thee also with ornaments, H5716 and I put H5414 bracelets H6781 upon thy hands, H3027 and a chain H7242 on thy neck. H1627 And I put H5414 a jewel H5141 on thy forehead, H639 and earrings H5694 in thine ears, H241 and a beautiful H8597 crown H5850 upon thine head. H7218 Thus wast thou decked H5710 with gold H2091 and silver; H3701 and thy raiment H4403 was of fine linen, H8336 H8336 and silk, H4897 and broidered work; H7553 thou didst eat H398 fine flour, H5560 and honey, H1706 and oil: H8081 and thou wast exceeding H3966 beautiful, H3302 and thou didst prosper H6743 into a kingdom. H4410
And when thou art spoiled, H7703 what wilt thou do? H6213 Though thou clothest H3847 thyself with crimson, H8144 though thou deckest H5710 thee with ornaments H5716 of gold, H2091 though thou rentest H7167 thy face H5869 with painting, H6320 in vain H7723 shalt thou make thyself fair; H3302 thy lovers H5689 will despise H3988 thee, they will seek H1245 thy life. H5315
I will greatly H7797 rejoice H7797 in the LORD, H3068 my soul H5315 shall be joyful H1523 in my God; H430 for he hath clothed H3847 me with the garments H899 of salvation, H3468 he hath covered H3271 me with the robe H4598 of righteousness, H6666 as a bridegroom H2860 decketh H3547 himself with ornaments, H6287 and as a bride H3618 adorneth H5710 herself with her jewels. H3627
Awake, H5782 awake; H5782 put on H3847 thy strength, H5797 O Zion; H6726 put on H3847 thy beautiful H8597 garments, H899 O Jerusalem, H3389 the holy H6944 city: H5892 for henceforth there shall no more H3254 come H935 into thee the uncircumcised H6189 and the unclean. H2931
Now it came to pass on the third H7992 day, H3117 that Esther H635 put on H3847 her royal H4438 apparel, and stood H5975 in the inner H6442 court H2691 of the king's H4428 house, H1004 over against H5227 the king's H4428 house: H1004 and the king H4428 sat H3427 upon his royal H4438 throne H3678 in the royal H4438 house, H1004 over against H5227 the gate H6607 of the house. H1004
And they came, H935 both H5921 men H582 and women, H802 as many as H3605 were willing H5081 hearted, H3820 and brought H935 bracelets, H2397 and earrings, H5141 and rings, H2885 and tablets, H3558 all jewels H3627 of gold: H2091 and every man H376 that offered H5130 offered an offering H8573 of gold H2091 unto the LORD. H3068
But every woman H802 shall borrow H7592 of her neighbour, H7934 and of her that sojourneth H1481 in her house, H1004 jewels H3627 of silver, H3701 and jewels H3627 of gold, H2091 and raiment: H8071 and ye shall put H7760 them upon your sons, H1121 and upon your daughters; H1323 and ye shall spoil H5337 the Egyptians. H4714
And the servant H5650 brought forth H3318 jewels H3627 of silver, H3701 and jewels H3627 of gold, H2091 and raiment, H899 and gave H5414 them to Rebekah: H7259 he gave H5414 also to her brother H251 and to her mother H517 precious things. H4030
And I asked H7592 her, and said, H559 Whose daughter H1323 art thou? And she said, H559 The daughter H1323 of Bethuel, H1328 Nahor's H5152 son, H1121 whom Milcah H4435 bare H3205 unto him: and I put H7760 the earring H5141 upon her face, H639 and the bracelets H6781 upon her hands. H3027

Commentary on 1 Peter 3 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 3
Wherein the apostle describes the duties of husbands and wives one to another, beginning with the duty of the wife (v. 1-7). He exhorts Christians to unity, love, compassion, peace, and patience under sufferings; to oppose the slanders of their enemies, not by returning evil for evil, or railing for railing, but by blessing; by a ready account of their faith and hope, and by keeping a good conscience (v. 8-17). To encourage them to this, he proposes the example of Christ, who suffered, the just for the unjust, but yet punished the old world for their disobedience, and saved the few who were faithful in the days of Noah (v. 18-22).
1Pe 3:1-7
The apostle having treated of the duties of subjects to their sovereigns, and of servants to their masters, proceeds to explain the duty of husbands and wives.
1Pe 3:8-15
The apostle here passes from special to more general exhortations.
1Pe 3:16-17
The confession of a Christian's faith cannot credibly be supported but by the two means here specified-a good conscience and a good conversation. conscience is good when it does its office well, when it is kept pure and uncorrupt, and clear from guilt; then it will justify you, though men accuse you. A good conversation in Christ is a holy life, according to the doctrine and example of Christ. "Look well to your conscience, and to your conversation; and then, though men speak evil of you, and falsely accuse you as evil-doers, you will clear yourselves, and bring them to shame. Perhaps you may think it hard to suffer for well-doing, for keeping a good conscience and a good conversation; but be not discouraged, for it is better for you, though worse for your enemies, that you suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.' 1Pe 3:21-22
Noah's salvation in the ark upon the water prefigured the salvation of all good Christians in the church by baptism; that temporal salvation by the ark was a type, the antitype whereunto is the eternal salvation of believers by baptism, to prevent mistakes about which the apostle,
