12 By G1223 Silvanus, G4610 a faithful G4103 brother G80 unto you, G5213 as G5613 I suppose, G3049 I have written G1125 briefly, G1223 G3641 exhorting, G3870 and G2532 testifying G1957 that this G5026 is G1511 the true G227 grace G5485 of God G2316 wherein G1519 G3739 ye stand. G2476
And G1161 I beseech G3870 you, G5209 brethren, G80 suffer G430 the word G3056 of exhortation: G3874 for G1063 G2532 I have written a letter G1989 unto you G5213 in G1223 few words. G1024
For G1063 the Son G5207 of God, G2316 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 who G3588 was preached G2784 among G1722 you G5213 by G1223 us, G2257 even by G1223 me G1700 and G2532 Silvanus G4610 and G2532 Timotheus, G5095 was G1096 not G3756 yea G3483 and G2532 nay, G3756 but G235 in G1722 him G846 was G1096 yea. G3483
Who, G3739 when he came, G3854 and G2532 had seen G1492 the grace G5485 of God, G2316 was glad, G5463 and G2532 exhorted G3870 them all, G3956 that with purpose G4286 of heart G2588 they would cleave unto G4357 the Lord. G2962
But G235 none G3762 of these things G3056 move me, G4160 neither G3761 count I G2192 my G3450 life G5590 dear G5093 unto myself, G1683 so G5613 that I might finish G5048 my G3450 course G1408 with G3326 joy, G5479 and G2532 the ministry, G1248 which G3739 I have received G2983 of G3844 the Lord G2962 Jesus, G2424 to testify G1263 the gospel G2098 of the grace G5485 of God. G2316
Paul, G3972 and G2532 Silvanus, G4610 and G2532 Timotheus, G5095 unto the church G1577 of the Thessalonians G2331 which is in G1722 God G2316 the Father G3962 and G2532 in the Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ: G5547 Grace G5485 be unto you, G5213 and G2532 peace, G1515 from G575 God G2316 our G2257 Father, G3962 and G2532 the Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ. G5547
Which have forsaken G2641 the right G2117 way, G3598 and are gone astray, G4105 following G1811 the way G3598 of Balaam G903 the son of Bosor, G1007 who G3739 loved G25 the wages G3408 of unrighteousness; G93
Beloved, G27 when I gave G4160 all G3956 diligence G4710 to write G1125 unto you G5213 of G4012 the common G2839 salvation, G4991 it was G2192 needful G318 for me G2192 to write G1125 unto you, G5213 and exhort G3870 you that ye should earnestly contend G1864 for the faith G4102 which was once G530 delivered G3860 unto the saints. G40
Demetrius G1216 hath good report G3140 of G5259 all G3956 men, and G2532 of G5259 the truth G225 itself: G846 yea, G1161 and G2532 we G2249 also bear record; G3140 and G2532 ye know G1492 that G3754 our G2257 record G3141 is G2076 true. G227
If G1487 we receive G2983 the witness G3141 of men, G444 the witness G3141 of God G2316 is G2076 greater: G3187 for G3754 this G3778 is G2076 the witness G3141 of God G2316 which G3739 he hath testified G3140 of G4012 his G846 Son. G5207 He that believeth G4100 on G1519 the Son G5207 of God G2316 hath G2192 the witness G3141 in G1722 himself: G1438 he that believeth G4100 not G3361 God G2316 hath made G4160 him G846 a liar; G5583 because G3754 he believeth G4100 not G3756 G1519 the record G3141 that G3739 God G2316 gave G3140 of G4012 his G846 Son. G5207
Wherefore G1352 I will G272 not G3756 be negligent G272 to put G5279 you G5209 always G104 in remembrance G5279 of G4012 these things, G5130 though G2539 ye know G1492 them, and G2532 be established G4741 in G1722 the present G3918 truth. G225
As G2531 ye G3129 also G2532 learned G3129 of G575 Epaphras G1889 our G2257 dear G27 fellowservant, G4889 who G3739 is G2076 for G5228 you G5216 a faithful G4103 minister G1249 of Christ; G5547
But G235 though G2532 G1437 we, G2249 or G2228 an angel G32 from G1537 heaven, G3772 preach any other gospel G2097 unto you G5213 than G3844 that which G3739 we have preached G2097 unto you, G5213 let him be G2077 accursed. G331 As G5613 we said before, G4280 so G2532 say I G3004 now G737 again, G3825 If any G1536 man preach G2097 any other G3844 gospel G2097 unto you G5209 than G3844 that G3739 ye have received, G3880 let him be G2077 accursed. Commentary on 1 Peter 5 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 5
In which the apostle gives particular directions, first to the elders, how to behave themselves towards their flock (v. 1-4); then to the younger, to be obedient and humble, and to cast their care upon God (v. 5-7). He then exhorts all to sobriety, watchfulness against temptations, and stedfastness in the faith, praying earnestly for them; and so concludes his epistle with a solemn doxology, mutual salutations, and his apostolical benediction (v. 8-14).
1Pe 5:1-4
Here we may observe,
1Pe 5:5-7
Having settled and explained the duty of the pastors or spiritual guides of the church, the apostle comes now to instruct the flock,
1Pe 5:8-9
Here the apostle does three things:-
1Pe 5:10-14
We come now to the conclusion of this epistle, which,
