16 And Jonathan H3083 Saul's H7586 son H1121 arose, H6965 and went H3212 to David H1732 into the wood, H2793 and strengthened H2388 his hand H3027 in God. H430
Strengthen H2388 ye the weak H7504 hands, H3027 and confirm H553 the feeble H3782 knees. H1290 Say H559 to them that are of a fearful H4116 heart, H3820 Be strong, H2388 fear H3372 not: behold, your God H430 will come H935 with vengeance, H5359 even God H430 with a recompence; H1576 he will come H935 and save H3467 you.
Wherefore G1352 lift up G461 the hands G5495 which hang down, G3935 and G2532 the feeble G3886 knees; G1119 And G2532 make G4160 straight G3717 paths G5163 for your G5216 feet, G4228 lest that G3363 which is lame G5560 be turned out of the way; G1624 but G1161 let it G2390 rather G3123 be healed. G2390
Thou G4771 therefore, G3767 my G3450 son, G5043 be strong G1743 in G1722 the grace G5485 that is in G1722 Christ G5547 Jesus. G2424
And David H1732 was greatly H3966 distressed; H3334 for the people H5971 spake H559 of stoning H5619 him, because the soul H5315 of all the people H5971 was grieved, H4843 every man H376 for his sons H1121 and for his daughters: H1323 but David H1732 encouraged H2388 himself in the LORD H3068 his God. H430
Then I told H5046 them of the hand H3027 of my God H430 which was good H2896 upon me; as also the king's H4428 words H1697 that he had spoken H559 unto me. And they said, H559 Let us rise up H6965 and build. H1129 So they strengthened H2388 their hands H3027 for this good H2896 work.
Behold, thou hast instructed H3256 many, H7227 and thou hast strengthened H2388 the weak H7504 hands. H3027 Thy words H4405 have upholden H6965 him that was falling, H3782 and thou hast strengthened H553 the feeble H3766 knees. H1290
And G1161 there appeared G3700 an angel G32 unto him G846 from G575 heaven, G3772 strengthening G1765 him. G846
Two H8147 are better H2896 than one; H259 because they have H3426 a good H2896 reward H7939 for their labour. H5999 For if they fall, H5307 the one H259 will lift up H6965 his fellow: H2270 but woe H337 to him that is alone H259 when he falleth; H5307 for he hath not another H8145 to help him up. H6965 Again, H1571 if two H8147 lie together, H7901 then they have heat: H2552 but how can one H259 be warm H3179 alone? And if one H259 prevail H8630 against him, two H8147 shall withstand H5975 him; and a threefold H8027 cord H2339 is not quickly H4120 broken. H5423
But I would strengthen H553 you with H1119 my mouth, H6310 and the moving H5205 of my lips H8193 should asswage H2820 your grief.
Ointment H8081 and perfume H7004 rejoice H8055 the heart: H3820 so doth the sweetness H4986 of a man's friend H7453 by hearty H5315 counsel. H6098

Commentary on 1 Samuel 23 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 23
Saul, having made himself drunk with the blood of the priests of the Lord, is here, in this chapter, seeking David's life, who appears here doing good, and suffering ill, at the same time. Here is,
1Sa 23:1-6
Now we find why the prophet Gad (by divine direction, no doubt) ordered David to go into the land of Judah, ch. 22:5. It was that, since Saul neglected the public safety, he might take care of it, notwithstanding the ill treatment that was given him; for he must render good for evil, and therein be a type of him who not only ventured his life, but laid down his life, for those that were his enemies.
