4 But G235 as G2531 we were allowed G1381 of G5259 God G2316 to be put in trust G4100 with the gospel, G2098 even so G3779 we speak; G2980 not G3756 as G5613 pleasing G700 men, G444 but G235 God, G2316 which trieth G1381 our G2257 hearts. G2588
For G1063 do I G3982 now G737 persuade G3982 men, G444 or G2228 God? G2316 or G2228 do I seek G2212 to please G700 men? G444 for G1063 if G1487 I G700 yet G2089 pleased G700 men, G444 I should G302 not G3756 be G2252 the servant G1401 of Christ. G5547
Great H1419 in counsel, H6098 and mighty H7227 in work: H5950 for thine eyes H5869 are open H6491 upon all the ways H1870 of the sons H1121 of men: H120 to give H5414 every one H376 according to his ways, H1870 and according to the fruit H6529 of his doings: H4611
I know H3045 also, my God, H430 that thou triest H974 the heart, H3824 and hast pleasure H7521 in uprightness. H3476 As for me, in the uprightness H4339 of mine heart H3824 I have willingly offered H5068 all these things: and now have I seen H7200 with joy H8057 thy people, H5971 which are present H4672 here, to offer willingly H5068 unto thee.
Let G3049 a man G444 so G3779 account G3049 of us, G2248 as G5613 of the ministers G5257 of Christ, G5547 and G2532 stewards G3623 of the mysteries G3466 of God. G2316 G3739 G1161 Moreover G3063 it is required G2212 in G1722 stewards, G3623 that G2443 a man G5100 be found G2147 faithful. G4103
But G1161 hath G5319 in due G2398 times G2540 manifested G5319 his G846 word G3056 through G1722 preaching, G2782 which G3739 is committed G4100 unto me G1473 according to G2596 the commandment G2003 of God G2316 our G2257 Saviour; G4990
Not G3361 with G2596 eyeservice, G3787 as G5613 menpleasers; G441 but G235 as G5613 the servants G1401 of Christ, G5547 doing G4160 the will G2307 of God G2316 from G1537 the heart; G5590
And G2532 I will kill G615 her G846 children G5043 with G1722 death; G2288 and G2532 all G3956 the churches G1577 shall know G1097 that G3754 I G1473 am G1510 he which G3588 searcheth G2045 the reins G3510 and G2532 hearts: G2588 and G2532 I will give G1325 unto every one G1538 of you G5213 according to G2596 your G5216 works. G2041
Neither G2532 G3756 is there G2076 any creature G2937 that is not manifest G852 in his G846 sight: G1799 but G1161 all things G3956 are naked G1131 and G2532 opened G5136 unto the eyes G3788 of him G846 with G4314 whom G3739 we have G2254 to do. G3056
O G5599 Timothy, G5095 keep G5442 that which is committed to thy trust, G3872 avoiding G1624 profane G952 and vain babblings, G2757 and G2532 oppositions G477 of science G1108 falsely so called: G5581
According G2596 to the glorious G1391 gospel G2098 of the blessed G3107 God, G2316 which G3739 was committed to G4100 my G1473 trust. G4100 And G2532 I thank G2192 G5485 Christ G5547 Jesus G2424 our G2257 Lord, G2962 who G3588 hath enabled G1743 me, G3165 for G3754 that he counted G2233 me G3165 faithful, G4103 putting me G5087 into G1519 the ministry; G1248 Who G3588 was G5607 before G4386 a blasphemer, G989 and G2532 a persecutor, G1376 and G2532 injurious: G5197 but G235 I obtained mercy, G1653 because G3754 I did G4160 it ignorantly G50 in G1722 unbelief. G570
But G1161 Jesus G2424 G846 did G4100 not G3756 commit G4100 himself G1438 unto them, G846 because G1223 he G846 knew G1097 all G3956 men, And G2532 G3754 needed G5532 G2192 not G3756 that G2443 any G5100 should testify G3140 of G4012 man: G444 for G1063 he G846 knew G1097 what G5101 was G2258 in G1722 man. G444
Then hear H8085 thou in heaven H8064 thy dwelling H3427 place, H4349 and forgive, H5545 and do, H6213 and give H5414 to every man H376 according to his ways, H1870 whose heart H3824 thou knowest; H3045 (for thou, even thou only, knowest H3045 the hearts H3824 of all the children H1121 of men;) H120
[[To the chief Musician, H5329 A Psalm H4210 of David.]] H1732 O LORD, H3068 thou hast searched H2713 me, and known H3045 me. Thou knowest H3045 my downsitting H3427 and mine uprising, H6965 thou understandest H995 my thought H7454 afar off. H7350
And G1161 the Lord G2962 said, G2036 Who G5101 then G686 is G2076 that faithful G4103 and G2532 wise G5429 steward, G3623 whom G3739 his lord G2962 shall make ruler G2525 over G1909 his G846 household, G2322 to give G1325 them their portion of meat G4620 in G1722 due season? G2540
He saith G3004 unto him G846 the third G5154 time, Simon, G4613 son of Jonas, G2495 lovest G5368 thou me? G3165 Peter G4074 was grieved G3076 because G3754 he said G2036 unto him G846 the third G5154 time, Lovest G5368 thou me? G3165 And G2532 he said G2036 unto him, G846 Lord, G2962 thou G4771 knowest G1492 all things; G3956 thou G4771 knowest G1097 that G3754 I love G5368 thee. G4571 Jesus G2424 saith G3004 unto him, G846 Feed G1006 my G3450 sheep. G4263
And G2532 my G3450 speech G3056 and G2532 my G3450 preaching G2782 was not G3756 with G1722 enticing G3981 words G3056 of man's G442 wisdom, G4678 but G235 in G1722 demonstration G585 of the Spirit G4151 and G2532 of power: G1411 That G2443 your G5216 faith G4102 should G5600 not G3361 stand G5600 in G1722 the wisdom G4678 of men, G444 but G235 in G1722 the power G1411 of God. G2316
But G235 have renounced G550 the hidden things G2927 of dishonesty, G152 not G3361 walking G4043 in G1722 craftiness, G3834 nor G3366 handling G1389 the word G3056 of God G2316 deceitfully; G1389 but G235 by manifestation G5321 of the truth G225 commending G4921 ourselves G1438 to G4314 every G3956 man's G444 conscience G4893 in the sight G1799 of God. G2316
Knowing G1492 therefore G3767 the terror G5401 of the Lord, G2962 we persuade G3982 men; G444 but G1161 we are made manifest G5319 unto God; G2316 and G1161 I trust G1679 also G2532 are made manifest G5319 in G1722 your G5216 consciences. G4893

Commentary on 1 Thessalonians 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
In this chapter the apostle puts the Thessalonians in mind of the manner of his preaching among them (v. 1-6). Then of the manner of his conversation among them (v. 7-12). Afterwards of the success of his ministry, with the effects both on himself and on them (v. 13-16), and then apologizes for his absence (v. 17-20).
1Th 2:1-6
Here we have an account of Paul's manner of preaching, and his comfortable reflection upon his entrance in among the Thessalonians. As he had the testimony of his own conscience witnessing to his integrity, so he could appeal to the Thessalonians how faithful he, and Silas, and Timotheus, his helpers in the work of the Lord, had discharged their office: You yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you. Note, It is a great comfort to a minister to have his own conscience and the consciences of others witnessing for him that he set out well, with good designs and from good principles; and that his preaching was not in vain, or, as some read it, was not fain. The apostle here comforts himself either in the success of his ministry, that it was not fruitless or in vain (according to our translation), or as others think, reflecting upon the sincerity of his preaching, that it was not vain and empty, or deceitful and treacherous. The subject-matter of the apostle's preaching was not vain and idle speculations about useless niceties and foolish questions, but sound and solid truth, such as was most likely to profit his hearers. A good example this is, to be imitated by all the ministers of the gospel. Much less was the apostle's preaching vain or deceitful. He could say to these Thessalonians what he told the Corinthians (2 Co. 4:2): We have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully. He had no sinister or worldly design in his preaching, which he puts them in mind to have been,
1Th 2:7-12
In these words the apostle reminds the Thessalonians of the manner of his conversation among them. And,

Here observe,
1Th 2:17-20
In these words the apostle apologizes for his absence. Here observe,
The apostle here puts the Thessalonians in mind that though he could not come to them as yet, and though he should never be able to come to them, yet our Lord Jesus Christ will come, nothing shall hinder this. And further, when he shall come, all must appear in his presence, or before him. Ministers and people must all appear before him, and faithful people will be the glory and joy of faithful ministers in that great and glorious day.
