20 Of whom G3739 is G2076 Hymenaeus G5211 and G2532 Alexander; G223 whom G3739 I have delivered G3860 unto Satan, G4567 that G2443 they may learn G3811 not G3361 to blaspheme. G987
In G1722 the name G3686 of our G2257 Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 when ye G5216 are gathered together, G4863 and G2532 my G1699 spirit, G4151 with G4862 the power G1411 of our G2257 Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 To deliver G3860 such an one G5108 unto Satan G4567 for G1519 the destruction G3639 of the flesh, G4561 that G2443 the spirit G4151 may be saved G4982 in G1722 the day G2250 of the Lord G2962 Jesus. G2424
Yet G2532 count G2233 him not G3361 as G5613 an enemy, G2190 but G235 admonish G3560 him as G5613 a brother. G80
But G1161 when the Jews G2453 saw G1492 the multitudes, G3793 they were filled G4130 with envy, G2205 and G2532 spake against G483 those things which were spoken G3004 by G5259 Paul, G3972 contradicting G483 and G2532 blaspheming. G987
And G2532 having G2192 in G1722 a readiness G2092 to revenge G1556 all G3956 disobedience, G3876 when G3752 your G5216 obedience G5218 is fulfilled. G4137
Therefore G5124 G1223 I write G1125 these things G5023 being absent, G548 lest G3363 being present G3918 I should use G5530 sharpness, G664 according G2596 to the power G1849 which G3739 the Lord G2962 hath given G1325 me G3427 to G1519 edification, G3619 and G2532 not G3756 to G1519 destruction. G2506
For G1063 men G444 shall be G2071 lovers of their own selves, G5367 covetous, G5366 boasters, G213 proud, G5244 blasphemers, G989 disobedient G545 to parents, G1118 unthankful, G884 unholy, G462
As many as G3745 G1437 I love, G5368 I G1473 rebuke G1651 and G2532 chasten: G3811 be zealous G2206 therefore, G3767 and G2532 repent. G3340
And G2532 I stood G2476 upon G1909 the sand G285 of the sea, G2281 and G2532 saw G1492 a beast G2342 rise up G305 out of G1537 the sea, G2281 having G2192 seven G2033 heads G2776 and G2532 ten G1176 horns, G2768 and G2532 upon G1909 his G846 horns G2768 ten G1176 crowns, G1238 and G2532 upon G1909 his G846 heads G2776 the name G3686 of blasphemy. G988
And G2532 there was given G1325 unto him G846 a mouth G4750 speaking G2980 great things G3173 and G2532 blasphemies; G988 and G2532 power G1849 was given G1325 unto him G846 to continue G4160 forty G5062 and two G1417 months. G3376 And G2532 he opened G455 his G846 mouth G4750 in G1519 blasphemy G988 against G4314 God, G2316 to blaspheme G987 his G846 name, G3686 and G2532 his G846 tabernacle, G4633 and G2532 them that dwell G4637 in G1722 heaven. Commentary on 1 Timothy 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 1
After the inscription (v. 1, 2) we have,
1Ti 1:1-4
Here is,
1Ti 1:5-11
Here the apostle instructs Timothy how to guard against the judaizing teachers, or others who mingled fables and endless genealogies with the gospel. He shows the use of the law, and the glory of the gospel.
1Ti 1:12-17
Here the apostle,
1Ti 1:18-20
Here is the charge he gives to Timothy to proceed in his work with resolution, v. 18. Observe here, The gospel is a charge committed to the ministers of it; it is committed to their trust, to see that it be duly applied according to the intent and meaning of it, and the design of its great Author.
