13 I give G3853 thee G4671 charge G3853 in the sight G1799 of God, G2316 who G3588 quickeneth G2227 all things, G3956 and G2532 before Christ G5547 Jesus, G2424 who G3588 before G1909 Pontius G4194 Pilate G4091 witnessed G3140 a good G2570 confession; G3671
I charge G1263 thee before G1799 God, G2316 and G2532 the Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 and G2532 the elect G1588 angels, G32 that G2443 thou observe G5442 these things G5023 without G5565 preferring one before another, G4299 doing G4160 nothing G3367 by G2596 partiality. G4346
And G1161 Jesus G2424 stood G2476 before G1715 the governor: G2232 and G2532 the governor G2232 asked G1905 him, G846 saying, G3004 Art G1488 thou G4771 the King G935 of the Jews? G2453 And G1161 Jesus G2424 said G5346 unto him, G846 Thou G4771 sayest. G3004
And G2532 from G575 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 who is the faithful G4103 witness, G3144 and the first begotten G4416 of G1537 the dead, G3498 and G2532 the prince G758 of the kings G935 of the earth. G1093 Unto him that loved G25 us, G2248 and G2532 washed G3068 us G2248 from G575 our G2257 sins G266 in G1722 his own G846 blood, G129
Jesus G2424 answered, G611 My G1699 kingdom G932 is G2076 not G3756 of G1537 this G5127 world: G2889 if G1487 my G1699 kingdom G932 were G2258 of G1537 this G5127 world, G2889 then would G302 my G1699 servants G5257 fight, G75 that G3363 I should G3860 not G3363 be delivered G3860 to the Jews: G2453 but G1161 now G3568 is G2076 my G1699 kingdom G932 not G3756 from hence. G1782 Pilate G4091 therefore G3767 said G2036 unto him, G846 Art G1488 thou G4771 a king G935 then? G3766 Jesus G2424 answered, G611 Thou G4771 sayest G3004 that G3754 I G1473 am G1510 a king. G935 To G1519 this G5124 end was G1080 I G1473 born, G1080 and G2532 for G1519 this G5124 cause came I G2064 into G1519 the world, G2889 that G2443 I should bear witness G3140 unto the truth. G225 Every one G3956 that is G5607 of G1537 the truth G225 heareth G191 my G3450 voice. G5456
Fight G75 the good G2570 fight G73 of faith, G4102 lay hold on G1949 eternal G166 life, G2222 whereunto G1519 G3739 thou art G2564 also G2532 called, G2564 and G2532 hast professed G3670 a good G2570 profession G3671 before G1799 many G4183 witnesses. G3144
And G2532 he shewed G1166 me G3427 a pure G2513 river G4215 of water G5204 of life, G2222 clear G2986 as G5613 crystal, G2930 proceeding G1607 out of G1537 the throne G2362 of God G2316 and G2532 of the Lamb. G721
And G2532 he said G2036 unto me, G3427 It is done. G1096 I G1473 am G1510 Alpha G1 and G2532 Omega, G5598 the beginning G746 and G2532 the end. G5056 I G1473 will give G1325 unto him that is athirst G1372 of G1537 the fountain G4077 of the water G5204 of life G2222 freely. G1432
See H7200 now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god H430 with me: I kill, H4191 and I make alive; H2421 I wound, H4272 and I heal: H7495 neither is there any that can deliver H5337 out of my hand. H3027
Jesus G2424 answered, G611 Thou couldest have G2192 no G3756 power G1849 at all against G3762 G2596 me, G1700 except G1508 it were G2258 given G1325 thee G4671 from above: G509 therefore G5124 G1223 he that delivered G3860 me G3165 unto thee G4671 hath G2192 the greater G3187 sin. G266
These things G5023 have I spoken G2980 unto you, G5213 being yet present G3306 with G3844 you. G5213 But G1161 the Comforter, G3875 which is the Holy G40 Ghost, G4151 whom G3739 the Father G3962 will send G3992 in G1722 my G3450 name, G3686 he G1565 shall teach G1321 you G5209 all things, G3956 and G2532 bring G5279 all things G3956 to G5279 your G5209 remembrance, G5279 whatsoever G3739 I have said G2036 unto you. Commentary on 1 Timothy 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
1Ti 6:1-5
1Ti 6:6-12
From the mention of the abuse which some put upon religion, making it to serve their secular advantages, the apostle,
1Ti 6:13-21
The apostle here charges Timothy to keep this commandment (that is, the whole work of his ministry, all the trust reposed in him, all the service expected from him) without spot, unrebukable; he must conduct himself so in his ministry that he might not lay himself open to any blame nor incur any blemish. What are the motives to move him to this?
