8 And when Asa H609 heard H8085 these words, H1697 and the prophecy H5016 of Oded H5752 the prophet, H5030 he took courage, H2388 and put away H5674 the abominable idols H8251 out of all the land H776 of Judah H3063 and Benjamin, H1144 and out of the cities H5892 which he had taken H3920 from mount H2022 Ephraim, H669 and renewed H2318 the altar H4196 of the LORD, H3068 that was before H6440 the porch H197 of the LORD. H3068
And Abijah H29 pursued H7291 after H310 Jeroboam, H3379 and took H3920 cities H5892 from him, Bethel H1008 with the towns H1323 thereof, and Jeshanah H3466 with the towns H1323 thereof, and Ephrain H6085 with the towns H1323 thereof.
He heweth him down H3772 cedars, H730 and taketh H3947 the cypress H8645 and the oak, H437 which he strengtheneth H553 for himself among the trees H6086 of the forest: H3293 he planteth H5193 an ash, H766 and the rain H1653 doth nourish H1431 it.
And G2532 the woman G1135 was G2258 arrayed G4016 in purple G4209 and G2532 scarlet colour, G2847 and G2532 decked G5558 with gold G5557 and G2532 precious G5093 stones G3037 and G2532 pearls, G3135 having G2192 a golden G5552 cup G4221 in G1722 her G846 hand G5495 full of G1073 abominations G946 and G2532 filthiness G168 of her G846 fornication: G4202 And G2532 upon G1909 her G846 forehead G3359 was a name G3686 written, G1125 MYSTERY, G3466 BABYLON G897 THE GREAT, G3173 THE MOTHER G3384 OF HARLOTS G4204 AND G2532 ABOMINATIONS G946 OF THE EARTH. G1093
For G1063 the time G5550 past G3928 of our life G979 may suffice G713 us G2254 to have wrought G2716 the will G2307 of the Gentiles, G1484 when we walked G4198 in G1722 lasciviousness, G766 lusts, G1939 excess of wine, G3632 revellings, G2970 banquetings, G4224 and G2532 abominable G111 idolatries: G1495
And from thence, G2547 when the brethren G80 heard G191 of G4012 us, G2257 they came G1831 to meet G529 G1519 us G2254 as far as G891 Appii G675 forum, G5410 and G2532 The three G5140 taverns: G4999 whom G3739 when Paul G3972 saw, G1492 he thanked G2168 God, G2316 and took G2983 courage. G2294
So I went in H935 and saw; H7200 and behold every form H8403 of creeping things, H7431 and abominable H8263 beasts, H929 and all the idols H1544 of the house H1004 of Israel, H3478 pourtrayed H2707 upon the wall H7023 round about. H5439
Which remain H3427 among the graves, H6913 and lodge H3885 in the monuments, H5341 which eat H398 swine's H2386 flesh, H1320 and broth H4839 H6564 of abominable H6292 things is in their vessels; H3627
Therefore shall ye keep H8104 mine ordinance, H4931 that ye commit H6213 not any one of these abominable H8441 customs, H2708 which were committed H6213 before H6440 you, and that ye defile H2930 not yourselves therein: I am the LORD H3068 your God. H430
Then they went H935 in H6441 to Hezekiah H2396 the king, H4428 and said, H559 We have cleansed H2891 all the house H1004 of the LORD, H3068 and the altar H4196 of burnt offering, H5930 with all the vessels H3627 thereof, and the shewbread H4635 table, H7979 with all the vessels H3627 thereof.
And, behold, Amariah H568 the chief H7218 priest H3548 is over you in all matters H1697 of the LORD; H3068 and Zebadiah H2069 the son H1121 of Ishmael, H3458 the ruler H5057 of the house H1004 of Judah, H3063 for all the king's H4428 matters: H1697 also the Levites H3881 shall be officers H7860 before H6440 you. Deal H6213 courageously, H2388 and the LORD H3068 shall be with the good. H2896
And the high places H1116 that were before H6440 Jerusalem, H3389 which were on the right hand H3225 of the mount H2022 of corruption, H4889 which Solomon H8010 the king H4428 of Israel H3478 had builded H1129 for Ashtoreth H6253 the abomination H8251 of the Zidonians, H6722 and for Chemosh H3645 the abomination H8251 of the Moabites, H4124 and for Milcom H4445 the abomination H8441 of the children H1121 of Ammon, H5983 did the king H4428 defile. H2930
But if ye say H559 unto me, We trust H982 in the LORD H3068 our God: H430 is not that he, whose high places H1116 and whose altars H4196 Hezekiah H2396 hath taken away, H5493 and hath said H559 to Judah H3063 and Jerusalem, H3389 Ye shall worship H7812 before H6440 this altar H4196 in Jerusalem? H3389
And he brought H7126 also the brasen H5178 altar, H4196 which was before H6440 the LORD, H3068 from the forefront H6440 of the house, H1004 from between the altar H4196 and the house H1004 of the LORD, H3068 and put H5414 it on the north H6828 side H3409 of the altar. H4196
Cursed H779 be the man H376 that maketh H6213 any graven H6459 or molten image, H4541 an abomination H8441 unto the LORD, H3068 the work H4639 of the hands H3027 of the craftsman, H2796 and putteth H7760 it in a secret H5643 place. And all the people H5971 shall answer H6030 and say, H559 Amen. H543

Commentary on 2 Chronicles 15 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 15
Asa and his army were now returning in triumph from the battle, laden with spoils and adorned with the trophies of victory, the pious prince, we may now suppose, studying what he should render to God for this great favour. He knew that the work of reformation, which he had begun in his kingdom, was not perfected; his enemies abroad were subdued, but there were more dangerous enemies at home that were yet unconquered-idols in Judah and Benjamin: his victory over the former emboldened him vigorously to renew his attack upon the latter. Now here we have,
2Ch 15:1-7
It was a great happiness to Israel that they had prophets among them; yet, while they were thus blessed, they were strangely addicted to idolatry, whereas, when the spirit of prophecy had ceased under the second temple, and the canon of the Old Temple was completed (which was constantly read in their synagogues), they were pure from idolatry; for the scriptures are of all other the most sure word of prophecy, and most effectual, and the church could not be so easily imposed upon by a counterfeit Bible as by a counterfeit prophet. Here was a prophet sent to Asa and his army, when they returned victorious from the war with the Ethiopians, not to compliment them and congratulate them on their success, but to quicken them to their duty; this is the proper business of God's ministers, even with princes and the greatest men. The Spirit of God came upon the prophet (v. 1), both to instruct him what he should say and to enable him to say it with clearness and boldness.
2Ch 15:8-19
We are here told what good effect the foregoing sermon had upon Asa.
