7 Also in the third H7969 year H8141 of his reign H4427 he sent H7971 to his princes, H8269 even to Benhail, H1134 and to Obadiah, H5662 and to Zechariah, H2148 and to Nethaneel, H5417 and to Michaiah, H4322 to teach H3925 in the cities H5892 of Judah. H3063
And said H559 unto the Levites H3881 that taught H995 H4000 all Israel, H3478 which were holy H6918 unto the LORD, H3068 Put H5414 the holy H6944 ark H727 in the house H1004 which Solomon H8010 the son H1121 of David H1732 king H4428 of Israel H3478 did build; H1129 it shall not be a burden H4853 upon your shoulders: H3802 serve H5647 now the LORD H3068 your God, H430 and his people H5971 Israel, H3478
The former G3303 G4413 treatise G3056 have I made, G4160 O G5599 Theophilus, G2321 of G4012 all G3956 that G3739 Jesus G2424 began G756 both G5037 to do G4160 and G2532 teach, G1321
And G1161 he said G2036 unto G4314 them, G846 G3754 I G3165 must G1163 preach G2097 the kingdom G932 of God G2316 to other G2087 cities G4172 also: G2532 for G3754 therefore G1519 G5124 am I sent. G649 And G2532 he preached G2258 G2784 in G1722 the synagogues G4864 of Galilee. G1056
And G2532 Jesus G2424 went about G4013 all G3650 Galilee, G1056 teaching G1321 in G1722 their G846 synagogues, G4864 and G2532 preaching G2784 the gospel G2098 of the kingdom, G932 and G2532 healing G2323 all G3956 manner of sickness G3554 and G2532 all G3956 manner of disease G3119 among G1722 the people. G2992
And kings H4428 shall be thy nursing fathers, H539 and their queens H8282 thy nursing mothers: H3243 they shall bow down H7812 to thee with their face H639 toward the earth, H776 and lick up H3897 the dust H6083 of thy feet; H7272 and thou shalt know H3045 that I am the LORD: H3068 for they shall not be ashamed H954 that wait H6960 for me.
And moreover, H3148 because the preacher H6953 was wise, H2450 he still taught H3925 the people H5971 knowledge; H1847 yea, he gave good heed, H239 and sought out, H2713 and set in order H8626 many H7235 proverbs. H4912 The preacher H6953 sought H1245 to find out H4672 acceptable H2656 words: H1697 and that which was written H3789 was upright, H3476 even words H1697 of truth. H571
Behold, H7200 I have taught H3925 you statutes H2706 and judgments, H4941 even as H834 the LORD H3068 my God H430 commanded H6680 me, that ye should do H6213 so in H7130 the land H776 whither ye go H935 to possess H3423 it.
And they stood up H6965 in their place, H5977 and read H7121 in the book H5612 of the law H8451 of the LORD H3068 their God H430 one fourth part H7243 of the day; H3117 and another fourth part H7243 they confessed, H3034 and worshipped H7812 the LORD H3068 their God. H430
And on the second H8145 day H3117 were gathered together H622 the chief H7218 of the fathers H1 of all the people, H5971 the priests, H3548 and the Levites, H3881 unto Ezra H5830 the scribe, H5608 even to understand H7919 the words H1697 of the law. H8451 And they found H4672 written H3789 in the law H8451 which the LORD H3068 had commanded H6680 by H3027 Moses, H4872 that the children H1121 of Israel H3478 should dwell H3427 in booths H5521 in the feast H2282 of the seventh H7637 month: H2320
Also Jeshua, H3442 and Bani, H1137 and Sherebiah, H8274 Jamin, H3226 Akkub, H6126 Shabbethai, H7678 Hodijah, H1941 Maaseiah, H4641 Kelita, H7042 Azariah, H5838 Jozabad, H3107 Hanan, H2605 Pelaiah, H6411 and the Levites, H3881 caused the people H5971 to understand H995 the law: H8451 and the people H5971 stood in their place. H5977 So they read H7121 in the book H5612 in the law H8451 of God H430 distinctly, H6567 and gave H7760 the sense, H7922 and caused them to understand H995 the reading. H4744
And Hezekiah H3169 spake H1696 comfortably H3820 unto all the Levites H3881 that taught H7919 the good H2896 knowledge H7922 of the LORD: H3068 and they did eat H398 throughout the feast H4150 seven H7651 days, H3117 offering H2076 peace H8002 offerings, H2077 and making confession H3034 to the LORD H3068 God H430 of their fathers. Commentary on 2 Chronicles 17 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 17
Here begin the life and reign of Jehoshaphat, who was one of the first three among the royal worthies, one of the best that ever swayed the sceptre of Judah since David's head was laid. He was the good son of a good father, so that, at this time, grace ran in the blood, even in the blood-royal. Happy the son that had such a father, to lay a good foundation in him and for him. Happy the father that had such a son, to build so wall upon the foundation he had laid! Happy the kingdom that was blessed with two such kings, two such reigns, together! In this chapter we have,
Thus was his prosperity the reward of his piety and his piety the brightest grace and ornament of his prosperity.
