23 Are they G1526 ministers G1249 of Christ? G5547 (I speak G2980 as a fool G3912 ) I G1473 am more; G5228 in G1722 labours G2873 more abundant, G4056 in G1722 stripes G4127 above measure, G5234 in G1722 prisons G5438 more frequent, G4056 in G1722 deaths G2288 oft. G4178
But G235 in G1722 all G3956 things approving G4921 ourselves G1438 as G5613 the ministers G1249 of God, G2316 in G1722 much G4183 patience, G5281 in G1722 afflictions, G2347 in G1722 necessities, G318 in G1722 distresses, G4730 In G1722 stripes, G4127 in G1722 imprisonments, G5438 in G1722 tumults, G181 in G1722 labours, G2873 in G1722 watchings, G70 in G1722 fastings; G3521
But G1161 by the grace G5485 of God G2316 I am G1510 what G3739 I am: G1510 and G2532 his G846 grace G5485 which was bestowed upon G1519 me G1691 was G1096 not G3756 in vain; G2756 but G235 I laboured G2872 more abundantly G4054 than they G846 all: G3956 yet G1161 not G3756 I, G1473 but G235 the grace G5485 of God G2316 which G3588 was with G4862 me. G1698
For G1063 I G1473 will shew G5263 him G846 how great things G3745 he G846 must G1163 suffer G3958 for G5228 my G3450 name's sake. G3686 G5228
Who G5101 then G3767 is G2076 Paul, G3972 and G1161 who G5101 is Apollos, G625 but G235 G2228 ministers G1249 by G1223 whom G3739 ye believed, G4100 even G2532 as G5613 the Lord G2962 gave G1325 to every man? G1538
And G2532 why G5101 stand G2793 we G2249 in jeopardy G2793 every G3956 hour? G5610 I protest by G3513 your G5212 rejoicing G2251 G2746 which G3739 I have G2192 in G1722 Christ G5547 Jesus G2424 our G2257 Lord, G2962 I die G599 daily. G2596 G2250 If G1487 after the manner G2596 of men G444 I have fought with beasts G2341 at G1722 Ephesus, G2181 what G5101 advantageth it G3786 me, G3427 if G1487 the dead G3498 rise G1453 not? G3756 let us eat G5315 and G2532 drink; G4095 for G1063 to morrow G839 we die. G599
But G235 G846 we had G2192 the sentence G610 of death G2288 in G1722 ourselves, G1438 that G3363 we should G3982 not G3363 trust G3982 in G1909 ourselves, G1438 G5600 but G235 in G1909 God G2316 which G3588 raiseth G1453 the dead: G3498 Who G3739 delivered G4506 us G2248 from G1537 so great G5082 a death, G2288 and G2532 doth deliver: G4506 in G1519 whom G3739 we trust G1679 that G3754 he will G4506 G2532 yet G2089 deliver G4506 us;
As G5613 unknown, G50 and G2532 yet well known; G1921 as G5613 dying, G599 and, G2532 behold, G2400 we live; G2198 as G5613 chastened, G3811 and G2532 not G3361 killed; G2289
Of G5259 the Jews G2453 five times G3999 received I G2983 forty G5062 stripes save G3844 one. G3391 Thrice G5151 was I beaten with rods, G4463 once G530 was I stoned, G3034 thrice G5151 I suffered shipwreck, G3489 a night and a day G3574 I have been G4160 in G1722 the deep; G1037
Yea, G235 and if G1499 I be offered G4689 upon G1909 the sacrifice G2378 and G2532 service G3009 of your G5216 faith, G4102 I joy, G5463 and G2532 rejoice with G4796 you G5213 all. G3956
For G2532 G1063 ye had compassion G4834 of me in my G3450 bonds, G1199 and G2532 took G4327 joyfully G3326 G5479 the spoiling G724 of your G5216 goods, G5224 knowing G1097 in G1722 yourselves G1438 that ye have G2192 in G1722 heaven G3772 a better G2909 and G2532 an enduring G3306 substance. G5223
Wherein G1722 G3739 I suffer trouble, G2553 as G5613 an evil doer, G2557 even unto G3360 bonds; G1199 but G235 the word G3056 of God G2316 is G1210 not G3756 bound. G1210
The Lord G2962 give G1325 mercy G1656 unto the house G3624 of Onesiphorus; G3683 for G3754 he G404 oft G4178 refreshed G404 me, G3165 and G2532 was G1870 not G3756 ashamed G1870 of my G3450 chain: G254
If thou put G5294 the brethren G80 in remembrance G5294 of these things, G5023 thou shalt be G2071 a good G2570 minister G1249 of Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 nourished up G1789 in the words G3056 of faith G4102 and G2532 of good G2570 doctrine, G1319 whereunto G3739 thou hast attained. G3877
And G2532 sent G3992 Timotheus, G5095 our G2257 brother, G80 and G2532 minister G1249 of God, G2316 and G2532 our G2257 fellowlabourer G4904 in G1722 the gospel G2098 of Christ, G5547 to G1519 establish G4741 you, G5209 and G2532 to comfort G3870 you G5209 concerning G4012 your G5216 faith: G4102
Who G3739 now G3568 rejoice G5463 in G1722 my G3450 sufferings G3804 for G5228 you, G5216 and G2532 fill up G466 that which is behind G5303 of the afflictions G2347 of Christ G5547 in G1722 my G3450 flesh G4561 for G5228 his G846 body's G4983 sake, G5228 which is G3603 the church: G1577
As G2531 it is written, G1125 G3754 For thy G4675 sake G1752 we are killed G2289 all G3650 the day long; G2250 we are accounted G3049 as G5613 sheep G4263 for the slaughter. G4967
And G5037 when they had laid G2007 many G4183 stripes G4127 upon them, G846 they cast G906 them into G1519 prison, G5438 charging G3853 the jailor G1200 to keep G5083 them G846 safely: G806 Who, G3739 having received G2983 such G5108 a charge, G3852 thrust G906 them G846 into G1519 the inner G2082 prison, G5438 and G2532 made G805 their G846 feet G4228 fast G805 in G1519 the stocks. G3586
Save G4133 that G3754 the Holy G40 Ghost G4151 witnesseth G1263 in every G2596 city, G4172 saying G3004 that G3754 bonds G1199 and G2532 afflictions G2347 abide G3306 me. G3165
And G2532 when he was come G2064 unto G4314 us, G2248 G2532 he took G142 Paul's G3972 girdle, G2223 and G5037 bound G1210 his own G846 hands G5495 and G2532 feet, G4228 and said, G2036 Thus G3592 saith G3004 the Holy G40 Ghost, G4151 So G3779 shall G1210 the Jews G2453 at G1722 Jerusalem G2419 bind G1210 the man G435 that G3739 owneth G2076 this G3778 girdle, G2223 and G2532 shall deliver G3860 him into G1519 the hands G5495 of the Gentiles. G1484
He hoped G1679 also G260 G1161 G2532 that G3754 money G5536 should have been given G1325 him G846 of G5259 Paul, G3972 that G3704 he might loose G3089 him: G846 wherefore G1352 he sent for G3343 him G846 the oftener, G4437 and G2532 communed with G3656 him. G846 But G1161 after G4137 two years G1333 Porcius G4201 Festus G5347 came G2983 into Felix' G5344 room: G1240 and G5037 Felix, G5344 willing G2309 to shew G2698 the Jews G2453 a pleasure, G5485 left G2641 Paul G3972 bound. G1210
And G1161 when G5613 they had been G1304 there G1563 many G4119 days, G2250 Festus G5347 declared G394 Paul's G3972 cause G2596 unto the king, G935 saying, G3004 There is G2076 a certain G5100 man G435 left G2641 in bonds G1198 by G5259 Felix: G5344
And G1161 when G3753 we came G2064 to G1519 Rome, G4516 the centurion G1543 delivered G3860 the prisoners G1198 to the captain of the guard: G4759 but G1161 Paul G3972 was suffered G2010 to dwell G3306 by G2596 himself G1438 with G4862 a soldier G4757 that kept G5442 him. G846
And G1161 Paul G3972 dwelt G3306 two G1333 whole G3650 years G1333 in G1722 his own G2398 hired house, G3410 and G2532 received G588 all G3956 that came in G1531 unto G4314 him, G846
Do ye look on G991 things after G2596 the outward appearance? G4383 If any man G1536 trust G3982 to himself G1438 that he is G1511 Christ's, G5547 let him G3049 of G575 himself G1438 think G3049 this G5124 again, G3825 that, G3754 as G2531 he G846 is Christ's, G5547 even G2532 so G3779 are we G2249 Christ's. G5547
For G1063 I suppose G3049 I was G5302 not a whit G3367 behind G5302 the very G5228 chiefest G3029 apostles. G652
I am become G1096 a fool G878 in glorying; G2744 ye G5210 have compelled G315 me: G3165 for G1063 I G1473 ought G3784 to have been commended G4921 of G5259 you: G5216 for G1063 in nothing G3762 am I behind G5302 the very chiefest G3029 apostles, G652 G5228 though G1499 I be G1510 nothing. G3762 Truly G3303 the signs G4592 of an apostle G652 were wrought G2716 among G1722 you G5213 in G1722 all G3956 patience, G5281 in G1722 signs, G4592 and G2532 wonders, G5059 and G2532 mighty deeds. G1411
For this G5127 cause G5484 I G1473 Paul, G3972 the prisoner G1198 of Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 for G5228 you G5216 Gentiles, G1484

Commentary on 2 Corinthians 11 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 11
In this chapter the apostle goes on with his discourse, in opposition to the false apostles, who were very industrious to lessen his interest and reputation among the Corinthians, and had prevailed too much by their insinuations.
2Cr 11:1-4
Here we may observe,
2Cr 11:5-15
After the foregoing preface to what he was about to say, the apostle in these verses mentions,
2Cr 11:16-21
Here we have a further excuse that the apostle makes for what he was about to say in his own vindication.
2Cr 11:22-33
Here the apostle gives a large account of his own qualifications, labours, and sufferings (not out of pride or vain-glory, but to the honour of God, who had enabled him to do and suffer so much for the cause of Christ), and wherein he excelled the false apostles, who would lessen his character and usefulness among the Corinthians. Observe,
In the last two verses, he mentions one particular part of his sufferings out of its place, as if he had forgotten it before, or because the deliverance God wrought for him was most remarkable; namely, the danger he was in at Damascus, soon after he was converted, and not settled in Christianity, at least in the ministry and apostleship. This is recorded, Acts 9:24, 25. This was his first great danger and difficulty, and the rest of his life was a piece with this. And it is observable that, lest it should be thought he spoke more than was true, the apostle confirms this narrative with a solemn oath, or appeal to the omniscience of God, v. 31. It is a great comfort to a good man that the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is an omniscient God, knows the truth of all he says, and knows all he does and all he suffers for his sake.
