15 And G2532 his G846 inward affection G4698 is G2076 more abundant G4056 toward G1519 you, G5209 whilst he remembereth G363 the obedience G5218 of you G5216 all, G3956 how G5613 with G3326 fear G5401 and G2532 trembling G5156 ye received G1209 him. G846
Wherefore, G5620 my G3450 beloved, G27 as G2531 ye have G5219 always G3842 obeyed, G5219 not G3361 as G5613 in G1722 my G3450 presence G3952 only, G3440 but G235 now G3568 much G4183 more G3123 in G1722 my G3450 absence, G666 work out G2716 your own G1438 salvation G4991 with G3326 fear G5401 and G2532 trembling. G5156
But G1161 whoso G3739 G302 hath G2192 this world's G2889 good, G979 and G2532 seeth G2334 his G846 brother G80 have G2192 need, G5532 and G2532 shutteth up G2808 his G846 bowels G4698 of compassion from G575 him, G846 how G4459 dwelleth G3306 the love G26 of God G2316 in G1722 him? G846
For G1063 God G2316 is G2076 my G3450 record, G3144 how G5613 greatly I long after G1971 you G5209 all G3956 in G1722 the bowels G4698 of Jesus G2424 Christ. G5547
Servants, G1401 be obedient G5219 to them that are your masters G2962 according to G2596 the flesh, G4561 with G3326 fear G5401 and G2532 trembling, G5156 in G1722 singleness G572 of your G5216 heart, G2588 as G5613 unto Christ; G5547
Casting down G2507 imaginations, G3053 and G2532 every G3956 high thing G5313 that exalteth itself G1869 against G2596 the knowledge G1108 of God, G2316 and G2532 bringing into captivity G163 every G3956 thought G3540 to G1519 the obedience G5218 of Christ; G5547 And G2532 having G2192 in G1722 a readiness G2092 to revenge G1556 all G3956 disobedience, G3876 when G3752 your G5216 obedience G5218 is fulfilled. G4137
For G1063 godly G2316 G2596 sorrow G3077 worketh G2716 repentance G3341 to G1519 salvation G4991 not to be repented of: G278 but G1161 the sorrow G3077 of the world G2889 worketh G2716 death. G2288 For G1063 behold G2400 this G5124 selfsame thing, G846 that G5209 ye sorrowed G3076 after G2596 a godly sort, G2316 what G4214 carefulness G4710 it wrought G2716 in you, G5213 yea, G235 what clearing of yourselves, G627 yea, G235 what indignation, G24 yea, G235 what fear, G5401 yea, G235 what vehement desire, G1972 yea, G235 what zeal, G2205 yea, G235 what revenge! G1557 In G1722 all G3956 things ye have approved G4921 yourselves G1438 to be G1511 clear G53 in G1722 this matter. G4229
When Ephraim H669 spake H1696 trembling, H7578 he exalted H5375 himself in Israel; H3478 but when he offended H816 in Baal, H1168 he died. H4191
My flesh H1320 trembleth H5568 for fear H6343 of thee; and I am afraid H3372 of thy judgments. H4941
Then all the men H582 of Judah H3063 and Benjamin H1144 gathered themselves together H6908 unto Jerusalem H3389 within three H7969 days. H3117 It was the ninth H8671 month, H2320 on the twentieth H6242 day of the month; H2320 and all the people H5971 sat H3427 in the street H7339 of the house H1004 of God, H430 trembling H7460 because of this matter, H1697 and for the great rain. H1653
Then were assembled H622 unto me every one that trembled H2730 at the words H1697 of the God H430 of Israel, H3478 because of the transgression H4604 of those that had been carried away; H1473 and I sat H3427 astonied H8074 until the evening H6153 sacrifice. H4503
Then spake H559 the woman H802 whose the living H2416 child H1121 was unto the king, H4428 for her bowels H7356 yearned H3648 upon her son, H1121 and she said, H559 O H994 my lord, H113 give H5414 her the living H2416 child, H3205 and in no wise H4191 slay H4191 it. Commentary on 2 Corinthians 7 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 7
This chapter begins with an exhortation to progressive holiness and a due regard to the ministers of the gospel (v. 1-4). Then the apostle returns from a long digression to speak further of the affair concerning the incestuous person, and tells them what comfort he received in his distress about that matter, upon his meeting with Titus (v. 5-7), and how re rejoiced in their repentance, with the evidences thereof (v. 8-11). And, lastly, he concludes with endeavouring to comfort the Corinthians, upon whom his admonitions had had so good an effect (v. 12-16).
2Cr 7:1-4
These verses contain a double exhortation:-
