1 And the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 said H559 unto H6440 Elisha, H477 Behold now, the place H4725 where we dwell H3427 with thee is too strait H6862 for us.
And the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 that were at Bethel H1008 came forth H3318 to Elisha, H477 and said H559 unto him, Knowest H3045 thou that the LORD H3068 will take away H3947 thy master H113 from thy head H7218 to day? H3117 And he said, H559 Yea, I know H3045 it; hold ye your peace. H2814
And Elisha H477 came again H7725 to Gilgal: H1537 and there was a dearth H7458 in the land; H776 and the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 were sitting H3427 before H6440 him: and he said H559 unto his servant, H5288 Set H8239 on the great H1419 pot, H5518 and seethe H1310 pottage H5138 for the sons H1121 of the prophets. H5030
And the children H1121 of Joseph H3130 spake H1696 unto Joshua, H3091 saying, H559 Why hast thou given H5414 me but one H259 lot H1486 and one H259 portion H2256 to inherit, H5159 seeing I am a great H7227 people, H5971 forasmuch as H5704 the LORD H3068 hath blessed H1288 me hitherto? H3541
And the coast H1366 of the children H1121 of Dan H1835 went out H3318 too little for them: therefore the children H1121 of Dan H1835 went up H5927 to fight H3898 against Leshem, H3959 and took H3920 it, and smote H5221 it with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and possessed H3423 it, and dwelt H3427 therein, and called H7121 Leshem, H3959 Dan, H1835 after the name H8034 of Dan H1835 their father. H1
And Saul H7586 sent H7971 messengers H4397 to take H3947 David: H1732 and when they saw H7200 the company H3862 of the prophets H5030 prophesying, H5012 and Samuel H8050 standing H5975 as appointed H5324 over them, the Spirit H7307 of God H430 was upon the messengers H4397 of Saul, H7586 and they also prophesied. H5012
Now there cried H6817 a certain H259 woman H802 of the wives H802 of the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 unto Elisha, H477 saying, H559 Thy servant H5650 my husband H376 is dead; H4191 and thou knowest H3045 that thy servant H5650 did fear H3373 the LORD: H3068 and the creditor H5383 is come H935 to take H3947 unto him my two H8147 sons H3206 to be bondmen. H5650
Even so would he have removed H5496 thee out of the strait H6310 H6862 into a broad place, H7338 where H8478 there is no straitness; H4164 and that which should be set H5183 on thy table H7979 should be full H4390 of fatness. H1880
For thy waste H2723 and thy desolate places, H8074 and the land H776 of thy destruction, H2035 shall even now be too narrow H3334 by reason of the inhabitants, H3427 and they that swallowed thee up H1104 shall be far away. H7368 The children H1121 which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost H7923 the other, shall say H559 again in thine ears, H241 The place H4725 is too strait H6862 for me: give H5066 place H4725 to me that I may dwell. H3427
Enlarge H7337 the place H4725 of thy tent, H168 and let them stretch forth H5186 the curtains H3407 of thine habitations: H4908 spare H2820 not, lengthen H748 thy cords, H4340 and strengthen H2388 thy stakes; H3489 For thou shalt break forth H6555 on the right hand H3225 and on the left; H8040 and thy seed H2233 shall inherit H3423 the Gentiles, H1471 and make the desolate H8074 cities H5892 to be inhabited. Commentary on 2 Kings 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
In this chapter we have,
The relief of it is another of the wonders wrought by Elisha's word, which we shall have the story of in the next chapter. Elisha is still a great blessing both to church and state, both to the sons of the prophets and to his prince.
2Ki 6:1-7
Several things may be observed here,
2Ki 6:8-12
Here we have Elisha, with his spirit of prophecy, serving the king, as before helping the sons of the prophets; for that, as other gifts, is given to every man to profit withal; and, whatever abilities any man has of doing good, he is by them made a debtor both to the wise and unwise. Observe here,
2Ki 6:13-23
Here is,
2Ki 6:24-33
This last paragraph of this chapter should, of right, have been the first of the next chapter, for it begins a new story, which is there continued and concluded. Here is,
