9 And G2532 when he had spoken G2036 these things, G5023 while they G846 beheld, G991 he was taken up; G1869 and G2532 a cloud G3507 received G5274 him G846 out of G575 their G846 sight. G3788
I saw H1934 H2370 in the night H3916 visions, H2376 and, behold, H718 one like the Son H1247 of man H606 came H858 with H5974 the clouds H6050 of heaven, H8065 and came H4291 to H5705 the Ancient H6268 of days, H3118 and they brought him near H7127 before H6925 him.
Until G891 the day G2250 in which G3739 he was taken up, G353 after that he through G1223 the Holy G40 Ghost G4151 had given commandments G1781 unto the apostles G652 whom G3739 he had chosen: G1586
And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto Moses, H4872 Lo, I come H935 unto thee in a thick H5645 cloud, H6051 that the people H5971 may hear H8085 when I speak H1696 with thee, and believe H539 thee for ever. H5769 And Moses H4872 told H5046 the words H1697 of the people H5971 unto the LORD. H3068
And G1161 he led G1806 them G846 out G1854 as far as G2193 to G1519 Bethany, G963 and G2532 he lifted up G1869 his G846 hands, G5495 and blessed G2127 them. G846 And G2532 it came to pass, G1096 while G1722 he G846 blessed G2127 them, G846 he was parted G1339 from G575 them, G846 and G2532 carried up G399 into G1519 heaven. G3772
The burden H4853 of Egypt. H4714 Behold, the LORD H3068 rideth H7392 upon a swift H7031 cloud, H5645 and shall come H935 into Egypt: H4714 and the idols H457 of Egypt H4714 shall be moved H5128 at his presence, H6440 and the heart H3824 of Egypt H4714 shall melt H4549 in the midst H7130 of it.
Behold, G2400 he cometh G2064 with G3326 clouds; G3507 and G2532 every G3956 eye G3788 shall see G3700 him, G846 and G2532 they also which G3748 pierced G1574 him: G846 and G2532 all G3956 kindreds G5443 of the earth G1093 shall wail G2875 because G1909 of him. G846 Even so, G3483 Amen. G281
What and G3767 if G1437 ye shall see G2334 the Son G5207 of man G444 ascend up G305 where G3699 he was G2258 before? G4386
Wherefore G1352 he saith, G3004 When he ascended G305 up G1519 on high, G5311 he led captivity G162 captive, G161 and G2532 gave G1325 gifts G1390 unto men. G444 (Now G1161 that he ascended, G305 what G5101 is it G2076 but G1508 that G3754 he G2597 also G2532 descended G2597 first G4412 into G1519 the lower G2737 parts G3313 of the earth? G1093 He G846 that descended G2597 is G2076 the same also G2532 that ascended up G305 far above G5231 all G3956 heavens, G3772 that G2443 he might fill G4137 all things.) G3956 And G2532 he G846 gave G1325 some, G3303 apostles; G652 and G1161 some, prophets; G4396 and G1161 some, evangelists; G2099 and G1161 some, pastors G4166 and G2532 teachers; G1320 For G4314 the perfecting G2677 of the saints, G40 for G1519 the work G2041 of the ministry, G1248 for G1519 the edifying G3619 of the body G4983 of Christ: G5547
And G2532 they heard G191 a great G3173 voice G5456 from G1537 heaven G3772 saying G3004 unto them, G846 Come up G305 hither. G5602 And G2532 they ascended up G305 to G1519 heaven G3772 in G1722 a cloud; G3507 and G2532 their G846 enemies G2190 beheld G2334 them. G846
These G3778 are they G1526 which G3739 were G3435 not G3756 defiled G3435 with G3326 women; G1135 for G1063 they are G1526 virgins. G3933 These G3778 are they G1526 which G3588 follow G190 the Lamb G721 whithersoever G3699 G302 he goeth. G5217 These G3778 were redeemed G59 from G575 among men, G444 being the firstfruits G536 unto God G2316 and G2532 to the Lamb. G721

Commentary on Acts 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
An Exposition, With Practical Observations, of
The Acts of the Apostles
Chapter 1
The inspired historian begins his narrative of the Acts of the Apostles,
Act 1:1-5
In these verses,
Act 1:6-11
In Jerusalem Christ, by his angel, had appointed his disciples to meet him in Galilee; there he appointed them to meet him in Jerusalem again, such a day. Thus he would try their obedience, and it was found ready and cheerful; they came together, as he appointed them, to be the witnesses of his ascension, of which we have here an account. Observe,
Act 1:12-14
We are here told,
Act 1:15-26
The sin of Judas was not only his shame and ruin, but it made a vacancy in the college of the apostles. They were ordained twelve, with an eye to the twelve tribes of Israel, descended from the twelve patriarchs; they were the twelve stars that make up the church's crown (Rev. 12:1), and for them twelve thrones were designated, Mt. 19:28. Now being twelve when they were learners, if they were but eleven when they were to be teachers, it would occasion every one to enquire what had become of the twelfth, and so revive the remembrance of the scandal of their society; and therefore care was taken, before the descent of the Spirit, to fill up the vacancy, of the doing of which we now have an account, our Lord Jesus, probably, having given directions about it, among other things which he spoke pertaining to the kingdom of God. Observe,
