12 And G1161 when Gallio G1058 was the deputy G445 of Achaia, G882 the Jews G2453 made insurrection G2721 with one accord against G3661 Paul, G3972 and G2532 brought G71 him G846 to G1909 the judgment seat, G968
And G1161 when he G846 was disposed G1014 to pass G1330 into G1519 Achaia, G882 the brethren G80 wrote, G1125 exhorting G4389 the disciples G3101 to receive G588 him: G846 who, G3739 when he was come, G3854 helped them G4820 much G4183 which had believed G4100 through G1223 grace: G5485
For G1063 I know G1492 the forwardness of G4288 your G5216 mind, G4288 for which G3739 I boast G2744 of G5228 you G5216 to them of Macedonia, G3110 that G3754 Achaia G882 was ready G3903 a year G4070 ago; G575 and G2532 your G5216 zeal G2205 G1537 hath provoked G2042 very many. G4119
Paul, G3972 an apostle G652 of Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 by G1223 the will G2307 of God, G2316 and G2532 Timothy G5095 our brother, G80 unto the church G1577 of God G2316 which G3588 is G5607 at G1722 Corinth, G2882 with G4862 all G3956 the saints G40 which G3588 are G5607 in G1722 all G3650 Achaia: G882
For G1063 it hath pleased them G2106 of Macedonia G3109 and G2532 Achaia G882 to make G4160 a certain G5100 contribution G2842 for G1519 the poor G4434 saints G40 which G3588 are at G1722 Jerusalem. G2419
But G1161 the Jews G2453 stirred up G3951 the devout G4576 and G2532 honourable G2158 women, G1135 and G2532 the chief men G4413 of the city, G4172 and G2532 raised G1892 persecution G1375 against G1909 Paul G3972 and G2532 Barnabas, G921 and G2532 expelled G1544 them G846 out of G575 their G846 coasts. G3725
When G1161 he G846 was set down G2521 on G1909 the judgment seat, G968 his G846 wife G1135 sent G649 unto G4314 him, G846 saying, G3004 G2532 Have thou G4671 nothing G3367 to do with that G1565 just man: G1342 for G1063 I have suffered G3958 many things G4183 this day G4594 in G2596 a dream G3677 because G1223 of him. G846
So G5620 that ye G5209 were G1096 ensamples G5179 to all G3956 that believe G4100 in G1722 Macedonia G3109 and G2532 Achaia. G882 For G1063 from G575 you G5216 sounded out G1837 the word G3056 of the Lord G2962 not G3756 only G3440 in G1722 Macedonia G3109 and G2532 Achaia, G882 but G235 also G2532 in G1722 every G3956 place G5117 your G5216 faith G4102 to G4314 God-ward G2316 is spread abroad; G1831 so G5620 that we G2248 need G5532 not G3361 G2192 to speak G2980 any thing. G5100
But G1161 ye G5210 have despised G818 the poor. G4434 Do G2616 not G3756 rich men G4145 oppress G2616 you, G5216 and G2532 draw G846 G1670 you G5209 before G1519 the judgment seats? G2922
Likewise G2532 greet the church G1577 that is in G2596 their G846 house. G3624 Salute G782 my G3450 wellbeloved G27 Epaenetus, G1866 who G3739 is G2076 the firstfruits G536 of Achaia G882 unto G1519 Christ. G5547
Then G1161 said G2036 Paul, G3972 I stand G1510 G2476 at G1909 Caesar's G2541 judgment seat, G968 where G3757 I G3165 ought G1163 to be judged: G2919 to the Jews G2453 have I done G91 no G3762 wrong, G91 as G5613 G2532 thou G4771 very well G2566 knowest. G1921
And G1161 when G5613 the seven G2033 days G2250 were almost G3195 ended, G4931 the Jews G2453 which were of G575 Asia, G773 when they saw G2300 him G846 in G1722 the temple, G2411 stirred up G4797 all G3956 the people, G3793 and G2532 laid G1911 hands G5495 on G1909 him, G846 Crying out, G2896 Men G435 of Israel, G2475 help: G997 This G3778 is G2076 the man, G444 that teacheth G1321 all G3956 men every where G3837 against G2596 the people, G2992 and G2532 the law, G3551 and G2532 this G5126 place: G5117 and G5037 further G2089 brought G1521 Greeks G1672 also G2532 into G1519 the temple, G2411 and G2532 hath polluted G2840 this G5127 holy G40 place. G5117 (For G1063 they had G2258 seen before G4308 with G4862 him G846 in G1722 the city G4172 Trophimus G5161 an Ephesian, G2180 whom G3739 they supposed G3543 that G3754 Paul G3972 had brought G1521 into G1519 the temple.) G2411 And G5037 all G3650 the city G4172 was moved, G2795 and G2532 the people G2992 ran together: G1096 G4890 and G2532 they took G1949 Paul, G3972 and drew G1670 him G846 out of G1854 the temple: G2411 and G2532 forthwith G2112 the doors G2374 were shut. G2808 And G1161 as they went about G2212 to kill G615 him, G846 tidings G5334 came G305 unto the chief captain G5506 of the band, G4686 that G3754 all G3650 Jerusalem G2419 was in an uproar. G4797 Who G3739 immediately G1824 took G3880 soldiers G4757 and G2532 centurions, G1543 and ran down G2701 unto G1909 them: G846 and G1161 when they saw G1492 the chief captain G5506 and G2532 the soldiers, G4757 they left G3973 beating G5180 of Paul. G3972 Then G5119 the chief captain G5506 came near, G1448 and took G1949 him, G846 and G2532 commanded G2753 him to be bound with G1210 two G1417 chains; G254 and G2532 demanded G4441 who G5101 he was, G302 G1498 and G2532 what G5101 he had G2076 done. G4160 And G1161 some G243 cried G994 one thing, G5100 some another, G243 among G1722 the multitude: G3793 and G1161 when he could G1410 not G3361 know G1097 the certainty G804 for G1223 the tumult, G2351 he commanded G2753 him G846 to be carried G71 into G1519 the castle. G3925 And G1161 when G3753 he came G1096 upon G1909 the stairs, G304 so it was, G4819 that he was borne G941 of G5259 the soldiers G4757 for G1223 the violence G970 of the people. G3793 For G1063 the multitude G4128 of the people G2992 followed after, G190 crying, G2896 Away G142 with him. G846
And G2532 he drave G556 them G846 from G575 the judgment seat. G968 Then G1161 all G3956 the Greeks G1672 took G1949 Sosthenes, G4988 the chief ruler of the synagogue, G752 and beat G5180 him before G1715 the judgment seat. G968 And G2532 Gallio G1058 cared G3199 for none G3762 of those things. G5130
But G1161 when G5613 the Jews G2453 of G575 Thessalonica G2332 had knowledge G1097 that G3754 G2532 the word G3056 of God G2316 was preached G2605 of G5259 Paul G3972 at G1722 Berea, G960 they came G2064 thither also, G2546 and stirred up G4531 the people. G3793
But G1161 the Jews G2453 which believed not, G544 moved with envy, G2206 G2532 took unto them G4355 certain G5100 lewd G4190 fellows G435 of the baser sort, G60 and G2532 gathered a company, G3792 and set all G2350 the city G4172 on an uproar, G2350 and G5037 assaulted G2186 the house G3614 of Jason, G2394 and sought G2212 to bring G71 them G846 out G1519 to the people. G1218
And G1161 there came thither G1904 certain Jews G2453 from G575 Antioch G490 and G2532 Iconium, G2430 who G2532 persuaded G3982 the people, G3793 and, G2532 having stoned G3034 Paul, G3972 drew G4951 him out of G1854 the city, G4172 supposing G3543 he G846 had been dead. G2348

Commentary on Acts 18 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 18
In this chapter we have,
Act 18:1-6
We do not find that Paul was much persecuted at Athens, nor that he was driven thence by any ill usage, as he was from those places where the Jews had or could make any interest; but this reception at Athens being cold, and little prospect of doing good there, he departed from Athens, leaving the care of those there who believed with Dionysius; and thence he came to Corinth, where he was now instrumental in planting a church that became on many accounts considerable. Corinth was the chief city of Achaia, now a province of the empire, a rich and splendid city. Non cuivis homini contingit adire Corinthum-It is not permitted every man to see Corinth. The country thereabouts at this day is called the Morea. Now here we have,
Act 18:7-11
Here we are told,
Act 18:12-17
We have here an account of some disturbance given to Paul and his friends at Corinth, but no great harm done, nor much hindrance given to the work of Christ there.
Act 18:18-23
We have here Paul in motion, as we have had him at Corinth for some time at rest, but in both busy, very busy, in the service of Christ; if he sat still, if he went about, still it was to do good. Here is,
Act 18:24-28
The sacred history leaves Paul upon his travels, and goes here to meet Apollos at Ephesus, and to give us some account of him, which was necessary to our understanding some passages in Paul's epistles.
