30 Also G2532 of G1537 your G5216 own selves G846 shall G450 men G435 arise, G450 speaking G2980 perverse things, G1294 to draw away G645 disciples G3101 after G3694 them. G846
For G1063 the time G2540 will come G2071 when G3753 they will G430 not G3756 endure G430 sound G5198 doctrine; G1319 but G235 after G2596 their own G2398 lusts G1939 shall they heap G2002 to themselves G1438 teachers, G1320 having itching G2833 ears; G189 And G2532 they shall turn away G3303 G654 their ears G189 from G575 the truth, G225 and G1161 shall be turned G1624 unto G1909 fables. G3454
For G1063 there are certain G5100 men G444 crept in unawares, G3921 who G3588 were before G4270 of old G3819 ordained G4270 to G1519 this G5124 condemnation, G2917 ungodly men, G765 turning G3346 the grace G5485 of our G2257 God G2316 into G1519 lasciviousness, G766 and G2532 denying G720 the only G3441 Lord G1203 God, G2316 and G2532 our G2257 Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ. G5547 I will G1014 therefore G1161 put G5279 you G5209 in remembrance, G5279 though ye G5209 once G530 knew G1492 this, G5124 how that G3754 the Lord, G2962 having saved G4982 the people G2992 out of G1537 the land G1093 of Egypt, G125 afterward G1208 destroyed G622 them that believed G4100 not. G3361 And G5037 the angels G32 which kept G5083 not G3361 their G1438 first estate, G746 but G235 left G620 their own G2398 habitation, G3613 he hath reserved G5083 in everlasting G126 chains G1199 under G5259 darkness G2217 unto G1519 the judgment G2920 of the great G3173 day. G2250 Even as G5613 Sodom G4670 and G2532 Gomorrha, G1116 and G2532 the cities G4172 about G4012 them G846 in like G3664 G5125 manner, G5158 giving themselves over to fornication, G1608 and G2532 going G565 after G3694 strange G2087 flesh, G4561 are set forth for G4295 an example, G1164 suffering G5254 the vengeance G1349 of eternal G166 fire. G4442 Likewise G3668 G3305 also G2532 these G3778 filthy dreamers G1797 defile G3392 the flesh, G3303 G4561 G1161 despise G114 dominion, G2963 and G1161 speak evil G987 of dignities. G1391 Yet G1161 Michael G3413 the archangel, G743 when G3753 contending G1252 with the devil G1228 he disputed G1256 about G4012 the body G4983 of Moses, G3475 durst G5111 not G3756 bring against him G2018 a railing G988 accusation, G2920 but G235 said, G2036 The Lord G2962 rebuke G2008 thee. G4671 But G1161 these G3778 speak evil G987 of those things which G3745 G3303 they know G1492 not: G3756 but G1161 what G3745 they know G1987 naturally, G5447 as G5613 brute G249 beasts, G2226 in G1722 those things G5125 they corrupt themselves. G5351 Woe G3759 unto them! G846 for G3754 they have gone G4198 in the way G3598 of Cain, G2535 and G2532 ran greedily after G1632 the error G4106 of Balaam G903 for reward, G3408 and G2532 perished G622 in the gainsaying G485 of Core. G2879 These G3778 are G1526 spots G4694 in G1722 your G5216 feasts of charity, G26 when they feast G4910 with you, G5213 feeding G4165 themselves G1438 without fear: G870 clouds G3507 they are without water, G504 carried about G4064 of G5259 winds; G417 trees G1186 whose fruit withereth, G5352 without fruit, G175 twice G1364 dead, G599 plucked up by the roots; G1610 Raging G66 waves G2949 of the sea, G2281 foaming out G1890 their own G1438 shame; G152 wandering G4107 stars, G792 to whom G3739 is reserved G5083 the blackness G2217 of darkness G4655 for G1519 ever. G165 And G1161 Enoch G1802 also, G2532 the seventh G1442 from G575 Adam, G76 prophesied G4395 of these, G5125 saying, G3004 Behold, G2400 the Lord G2962 cometh G2064 with G1722 ten thousands G3461 of his G846 saints, G40 To execute G4160 judgment G2920 upon G2596 all, G3956 and G2532 to convince G1827 all G3956 that are ungodly G765 among them G846 of G4012 all G3956 their G846 ungodly G763 deeds G2041 which G3739 they have ungodly committed, G764 and G2532 of G4012 all G3956 their hard G4642 speeches which G3739 ungodly G765 sinners G268 have spoken G2980 against G2596 him. G846 These G3778 are G1526 murmurers, G1113 complainers, G3202 walking G4198 after G2596 their own G846 lusts; G1939 and G2532 their G846 mouth G4750 speaketh G2980 great swelling G5246 words, having men's persons G4383 in admiration G2296 because G5484 of advantage. G5622
Holding G2192 faith, G4102 and G2532 a good G18 conscience; G4893 which G3739 some G5100 having put away G683 concerning G4012 faith G4102 have made shipwreck: G3489 Of whom G3739 is G2076 Hymenaeus G5211 and G2532 Alexander; G223 whom G3739 I have delivered G3860 unto Satan, G4567 that G2443 they may learn G3811 not G3361 to blaspheme. G987
But G1161 there were G1096 false prophets G5578 also G2532 among G1722 the people, G2992 even G2532 as G5613 there shall be G2071 false teachers G5572 among G1722 you, G5213 who G3748 privily shall bring in G3919 damnable G684 heresies, G139 even G2532 denying G720 the Lord G1203 that bought G59 them, G846 and bring G1863 upon themselves G1438 swift G5031 destruction. G684 And G2532 many G4183 shall follow G1811 their G846 pernicious ways; G684 by reason of G1223 whom G3739 the way G3598 of truth G225 shall be evil spoken of. G987 And G2532 through G1722 covetousness G4124 shall they with feigned G4112 words G3056 make merchandise G1710 of you: G5209 whose G3739 judgment G2917 now of a long time G1597 lingereth G691 not, G3756 and G2532 their G846 damnation G684 slumbereth G3573 not. G3756
And G2532 their G846 word G3056 will eat G2192 G3542 as G5613 doth a canker: G1044 of whom G3739 is G2076 Hymenaeus G5211 and G2532 Philetus; G5372 Who G3748 concerning G4012 the truth G225 have erred, G795 saying G3004 that the resurrection G386 is past G1096 already; G2235 and G2532 overthrow G396 the faith G4102 of some. G5100
As many as G3745 desire G2309 to make a fair shew G2146 in G1722 the flesh, G4561 they G3778 constrain G315 you G5209 to be circumcised; G4059 only G3440 lest G3363 they should suffer persecution G1377 for the cross G4716 of Christ. G5547 For G1063 neither G3761 they themselves G846 who are circumcised G4059 keep G5442 the law; G3551 but G235 desire G2309 to have G4059 you G5209 circumcised, G4059 that G2443 they may glory G2744 in G1722 your G5212 flesh. G4561
Now G1161 this G5124 I say, G3004 that G3754 every one G1538 of you G5216 saith, G3004 I G1473 G3303 am G1510 of Paul; G3972 and G1161 I G1473 of Apollos; G625 and G1161 I G1473 of Cephas; G2786 and G1161 I G1473 of Christ. G5547 Is G3307 Christ G5547 divided? G3307 G3361 was G4717 Paul G3972 crucified G4717 for G5228 you? G5216 or G2228 were ye baptized G907 in G1519 the name G3686 of Paul? G3972 I thank G2168 God G2316 that G3754 I baptized G907 none G3762 of you, G5216 but G1508 Crispus G2921 and G2532 Gaius; G1050 Lest G3363 any G5100 should say G2036 that G3754 I had baptized G907 in G1519 mine own G1699 name. G3686
For G1063 before G4253 these G5130 days G2250 rose up G450 Theudas, G2333 boasting G3004 himself G1438 to be G1511 somebody; G5100 to whom G3739 a number G706 of men, G435 about G5616 four hundred, G5071 joined themselves: G4347 who G3739 was slain; G337 and G2532 all, G3956 as many as G3745 obeyed G3982 him, G846 were scattered, G1262 and G2532 brought G1096 to G1519 nought. G3762 After G3326 this man G5126 rose up G450 Judas G2455 of Galilee G1057 in G1722 the days G2250 of the taxing, G582 and G2532 drew away G868 much G2425 people G2992 after G3694 him: G846 he also G2548 perished; G622 and G2532 all, G3956 even as many as G3745 obeyed G3982 him, G846 were dispersed. G1287
And G2532 as they G846 did eat, G2068 he said, G2036 Verily G281 I say G3004 unto you, G5213 that G3754 one G1520 of G1537 you G5216 shall betray G3860 me. G3165 And G2532 they were exceeding G4970 sorrowful, G3076 and began G756 every one G1538 of them G846 to say G3004 unto him, G846 Lord, G2962 is G1510 it G3385 I? G1473 And G1161 he answered G611 and said, G2036 He that dippeth G1686 his hand G5495 with G3326 me G1700 in G1722 the dish, G5165 the same G3778 shall betray G3860 me. G3165 G3303 The Son G5207 of man G444 goeth G5217 as G2531 it is written G1125 of G4012 him: G846 but G1161 woe G3759 unto that G1565 man G444 by G1223 whom G3739 the Son G5207 of man G444 is betrayed! G3860 it had been G2258 good G2570 for that G1565 man G846 if G1487 he G444 had G1080 not G3756 been born. G1080 Then G1161 Judas, G2455 which G3588 betrayed G3860 him, G846 answered G611 and said, G2036 Master, G4461 is G1510 it G3385 I? G1473 He said G3004 unto him, G846 Thou G4771 hast said. G2036

Commentary on Acts 20 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 20
In this chapter we have,
And in all these we find Paul very busy to serve Christ, and to do good to the souls of men, not only in the conversion of heathen, but in the edification of Christians.
Act 20:1-6
These travels of Paul which are thus briefly related, if all in them had been recorded that was memorable and worthy to be written in letters of gold, the world would not contain the books that would have been written; and therefore we have only some general hints of occurrences, which therefore ought to be the more precious. Here is,
Act 20:7-12
We have here an account of what passed at Troas the last of the seven days that Paul staid there.
Act 20:13-16
Paul is hastening towards Jerusalem, but strives to do all the good he can by the way, oµs en parodoµ, "as it were by the by.' He had called at Troas, and done good there; and now he makes a sort of coasting voyage, the merchants would call it a trading voyage, going from place to place, and no doubt endeavouring to make every place he came to the better for him, as every good man should do.
Act 20:17-35
It should seem the ship Paul and his companions were embarked in for Jerusalem attended him on purpose, and staid or moved as he pleased; for when he came to Miletus, he went ashore, and tarried thee so long as to send for the elders of Ephesus to come to him thither; for if he had gone up to Ephesus, he could never have got away from them. These elders, or presbyters, some think, were those twelve who received the Holy Ghost by Paul's hands, ch. 19:6. But, besides these, it is probable that Timothy had ordained other elders there for the service of that church, and the country about; these Paul sent for, that he might instruct and encourage them to go on in the work to which they had laid their hands. And what instructions he gave to them they would give to the people under their charge.
It is a very pathetic and practical discourse with Paul here takes leave of these elders, and has in it much of the excellent spirit of this good man.
Act 20:36-38
After the parting sermon that Paul preached to the elders of Ephesus, which was very affecting, we have here the parting prayer and tears, which were yet more affecting; we can scarcely read the account here given of them, and meditate upon them with dry eyes.
