16 And I heard H8085 a man's H120 voice H6963 between the banks of Ulai, H195 which called, H7121 and said, H559 Gabriel, H1403 make this H1975 man to understand H995 the vision. H4758
And G2532 the angel G32 answering G611 said G2036 unto him, G846 I G1473 am G1510 Gabriel, G1043 that stand G3936 in the presence G1799 of God; G2316 and G2532 am sent G649 to speak G2980 unto G4314 thee, G4571 and G2532 to shew G2097 thee G4671 these G5023 glad tidings. G2097
Then I Daniel H1840 looked, H7200 and, behold, there stood H5975 other H312 two, H8147 the one H259 on this side H2008 of the bank H8193 of the river, H2975 and the other H259 on that side of the bank H8193 of the river. H2975 And one said H559 to the man H376 clothed H3847 in linen, H906 which was upon H4605 the waters H4325 of the river, H2975 How long shall it be to the end H7093 of these wonders? H6382 And I heard H8085 the man H376 clothed H3847 in linen, H906 which was upon H4605 the waters H4325 of the river, H2975 when he held up H7311 his right hand H3225 and his left hand H8040 unto heaven, H8064 and sware H7650 by him that liveth H2416 for ever H5769 that it shall be for a time, H4150 times, H4150 and an half; H2677 and when he shall have accomplished H3615 to scatter H5310 the power H3027 of the holy H6944 people, H5971 all these things shall be finished. H3615
Yea, whiles I was speaking H1696 in prayer, H8605 even the man H376 Gabriel, H1403 whom I had seen H7200 in the vision H2377 at the beginning, H8462 being caused to fly H3286 swiftly, H3288 touched H5060 me about the time H6256 of the evening H6153 oblation. H4503 And he informed H995 me, and talked H1696 with me, and said, H559 O Daniel, H1840 I am now come forth H3318 to give thee skill H7919 and understanding. H998
And he said H559 unto me, O Daniel, H1840 a man H376 greatly beloved, H2532 understand H995 the words H1697 that I speak H1696 unto thee, and stand H5975 upright: H5977 for unto thee am I now sent. H7971 And when he had spoken H1696 this word H1697 unto me, I stood H5975 trembling. H7460 Then said H559 he unto me, Fear H3372 not, Daniel: H1840 for from the first H7223 day H3117 that thou didst set H5414 thine heart H3820 to understand, H995 and to chasten H6031 thyself before H6440 thy God, H430 thy words H1697 were heard, H8085 and I am come H935 for thy words. H1697
Now I am come H935 to make thee understand H995 what shall befall H7136 thy people H5971 in the latter H319 days: H3117 for yet the vision H2377 is for many days. H3117
And said H559 unto him, Run, H7323 speak H1696 to this H1975 young man, H5288 saying, H559 Jerusalem H3389 shall be inhabited H3427 as towns without walls H6519 for the multitude H7230 of men H120 and cattle H929 therein: H8432
Are they G1526 not G3780 all G3956 ministering G3010 spirits, G4151 sent forth G649 to G1519 minister G1248 for G1223 them who shall G3195 be heirs of G2816 salvation? G4991
And G2532 I turned G1994 to see G991 the voice G5456 that G3748 spake G2980 with G3326 me. G1700 And G2532 being turned, G1994 I saw G1492 seven G2033 golden G5552 candlesticks; G3087

Commentary on Daniel 8 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 8
The visions and prophecies of this chapter look only and entirely at the events that were then shortly to come to pass in the monarchies of Persia and Greece, and seem not to have any further reference at all. Nothing is here said of the Chaldean monarchy, for that was now just at its period; and therefore this chapter is written not in Chaldee, as the six foregoing chapters were, for the benefit of the Chaldeans, but in Hebrew, and so are the rest of the chapters to the end of the book, for the service of the Jews, that they might know what troubles were before them and what the issue of them would be, and might provide accordingly. In this chapter we have,
The Jewish church, from its beginning, had been all along, more or less, blessed with prophets, men divinely inspired to explain God's mind to them in his providences and give them some prospect of what was coming upon them; but, soon after Ezra's time, divine inspiration ceased, and there was no more any prophet till the gospel day dawned. And therefore the events of that time were here foretold by Daniel, and left upon record, that even then God might not leave himself without witness, nor them without a guide.
