19 O Lord, H136 hear; H8085 O Lord, H136 forgive; H5545 O Lord, H136 hearken H7181 and do; H6213 defer H309 not, H408 for thine own sake, O my God: H430 for thy city H5892 and thy people H5971 are called H7121 by thy name. H8034
I say G3004 unto you, G5213 Though G1499 he will G1453 not G3756 rise G1453 and give G1325 him, G846 because G1223 he is G1511 his G846 friend, G5384 yet G1065 because G1223 of his G846 importunity G335 he will rise G450 and give G1325 him G846 as many as G3745 he needeth. G5535
O my God, H430 incline H5186 thine ear, H241 and hear; H8085 open H6491 thine eyes, H5869 and behold H7200 our desolations, H8074 and the city H5892 which is called H7121 by thy name: H8034 for we do not present H5307 our supplications H8469 before H6440 thee for our righteousnesses, H6666 but for thy great H7227 mercies. H7356
Why shouldest thou be as a man H376 astonied, H1724 as a mighty man H1368 that cannot H3201 save? H3467 yet thou, O LORD, H3068 art in the midst H7130 of us, and we are called H7121 by thy name; H8034 leave H3240 us not.
O LORD, H3068 though our iniquities H5771 testify H6030 against us, do H6213 thou it for thy name's H8034 sake: for our backslidings H4878 are many; H7231 we have sinned H2398 against thee.
We acknowledge, H3045 O LORD, H3068 our wickedness, H7562 and the iniquity H5771 of our fathers: H1 for we have sinned H2398 against thee. Do not abhor H5006 us, for thy name's H8034 sake, do not disgrace H5034 the throne H3678 of thy glory: H3519 remember, H2142 break H6565 not thy covenant H1285 with us.
To the intent that G2443 now G3568 unto the principalities G746 and G2532 powers G1849 in G1722 heavenly G2032 places might be known G1107 by G1223 the church G1577 the manifold G4182 wisdom G4678 of God, G2316
Therefore thus saith H559 the Lord H136 GOD; H3069 Now will I bring again H7725 the captivity H7622 H7622 of Jacob, H3290 and have mercy H7355 upon the whole house H1004 of Israel, H3478 and will be jealous H7065 for my holy H6944 name; H8034
Therefore say H559 unto the house H1004 of Israel, H3478 Thus saith H559 the Lord H136 GOD; H3069 I do H6213 not this for your sakes, O house H1004 of Israel, H3478 but for mine holy H6944 name's H8034 sake, which ye have profaned H2490 among the heathen, H1471 whither ye went. H935
But I wrought H6213 for my name's H8034 sake, that it should not be polluted H2490 before H5869 the heathen, H1471 in whose sight H5869 I brought them out. H3318
But I wrought H6213 for my name's H8034 sake, that it should not be polluted H2490 before H5869 the heathen, H1471 among H8432 whom they were, in whose sight H5869 I made myself known H3045 unto them, in bringing them forth H3318 out of the land H776 of Egypt. H4714
For, lo, I begin H2490 to bring evil H7489 on the city H5892 which is called H7121 by my name, H8034 and should ye be utterly H5352 unpunished? H5352 Ye shall not be unpunished: H5352 for I will call H7121 for a sword H2719 upon all the inhabitants H3427 of the earth, H776 saith H5002 the LORD H3068 of hosts. H6635
Pardon, H5545 I beseech thee, the iniquity H5771 of this people H5971 according unto the greatness H1433 of thy mercy, H2617 and as thou hast forgiven H5375 this people, H5971 from Egypt H4714 even until now. H2008
Be not wroth H7107 very sore, H3966 O LORD, H3068 neither remember H2142 iniquity H5771 for ever: H5703 behold, see, H5027 we beseech thee, we are all thy people. H5971 Thy holy H6944 cities H5892 are a wilderness, H4057 Zion H6726 is a wilderness, H4057 Jerusalem H3389 a desolation. H8077 Our holy H6944 and our beautiful H8597 house, H1004 where our fathers H1 praised H1984 thee, is burned up H8316 with fire: H784 and all our pleasant things H4261 are laid waste. H2723 Wilt thou refrain H662 thyself for these things, O LORD? H3068 wilt thou hold thy peace, H2814 and afflict H6031 us very sore? H3966
Doubtless H3588 thou art our father, H1 though Abraham H85 be ignorant H3808 H3045 of us, and Israel H3478 acknowledge H5234 us not: thou, O LORD, H3068 art our father, H1 our redeemer; H1350 thy name H8034 is from everlasting. H5769 O LORD, H3068 why hast thou made us to err H8582 from thy ways, H1870 and hardened H7188 our heart H3820 from thy fear? H3374 Return H7725 for thy servants' H5650 sake, the tribes H7626 of thine inheritance. H5159 The people H5971 of thy holiness H6944 have possessed H3423 it but a little while: H4705 our adversaries H6862 have trodden down H947 thy sanctuary. H4720 We are thine: thou never H5769 barest rule H4910 over them; they were not called H7121 by thy name. H8034
Not unto us, O LORD, H3068 not unto us, but unto thy name H8034 give H5414 glory, H3519 for thy mercy, H2617 and for thy truth's H571 sake. Wherefore should the heathen H1471 say, H559 Where is now their God? H430
Thou shalt arise, H6965 and have mercy H7355 upon Zion: H6726 for the time H6256 to favour H2603 her, yea, the set time, H4150 is come. H935 For thy servants H5650 take pleasure H7521 in her stones, H68 and favour H2603 the dust H6083 thereof. So the heathen H1471 shall fear H3372 the name H8034 of the LORD, H3068 and all the kings H4428 of the earth H776 thy glory. H3519 When the LORD H3068 shall build up H1129 Zion, H6726 he shall appear H7200 in his glory. H3519
O remember H2142 not against us former H7223 iniquities: H5771 let thy tender mercies H7356 speedily H4118 prevent H6923 us: for we are brought H1809 very H3966 low. H1809 Help H5826 us, O God H430 of our salvation, H3468 for H1697 the glory H3519 of thy name: H8034 and deliver H5337 us, and purge away H3722 our sins, H2403 for thy name's H8034 sake. Wherefore should the heathen H1471 say, H559 Where is their God? H430 let him be known H3045 among the heathen H1471 in our sight H5869 by the revenging H5360 of the blood H1818 of thy servants H5650 which is shed. H8210
How long, LORD? H3068 wilt thou be angry H599 for ever? H5331 shall thy jealousy H7068 burn H1197 like fire? H784 Pour out H8210 thy wrath H2534 upon the heathen H1471 that have not known H3045 thee, and upon the kingdoms H4467 that have not called H7121 upon thy name. H8034
We see H7200 not our signs: H226 there is no more any prophet: H5030 neither is there among us any that knoweth H3045 how long. H5704 O God, H430 how long shall the adversary H6862 reproach? H2778 shall the enemy H341 blaspheme H5006 thy name H8034 for ever? H5331 Why withdrawest H7725 thou thy hand, H3027 even thy right hand? H3225 pluck H3615 it out of H7130 thy bosom. H2436 H2436
Awake, H5782 why sleepest H3462 thou, O Lord? H136 arise, H6974 cast us not off H2186 for ever. H5331 Wherefore hidest H5641 thou thy face, H6440 and forgettest H7911 our affliction H6040 and our oppression? H3906 For our soul H5315 is bowed down H7743 to the dust: H6083 our belly H990 cleaveth H1692 unto the earth. H776 Arise H6965 for our help, H5833 and redeem H6299 us for thy mercies' H2617 sake.
Then hear H8085 thou from the heavens, H8064 even from thy dwelling H3427 place, H4349 their prayer H8605 and their supplications, H8467 and maintain H6213 their cause, H4941 and forgive H5545 thy people H5971 which have sinned H2398 against thee.
Then hear H8085 thou from the heavens, H8064 and forgive H5545 the sin H2403 of thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 and bring them again H7725 unto the land H127 which thou gavest H5414 to them and to their fathers. H1 When the heaven H8064 is shut up, H6113 and there is no rain, H4306 because they have sinned H2398 against thee; yet if they pray H6419 toward this place, H4725 and confess H3034 thy name, H8034 and turn H7725 from their sin, H2403 when thou dost afflict H6031 them; Then hear H8085 thou from heaven, H8064 and forgive H5545 the sin H2403 of thy servants, H5650 and of thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 when thou hast taught H3384 them the good H2896 way, H1870 wherein they should walk; H3212 and send H5414 rain H4306 upon thy land, H776 which thou hast given H5414 unto thy people H5971 for an inheritance. H5159 If there be dearth H7458 in the land, H776 if there be pestilence, H1698 if there be blasting, H7711 or mildew, H3420 locusts, H697 or caterpillers; H2625 if their enemies H341 besiege H6887 them in the cities H8179 of their land; H776 whatsoever sore H5061 or whatsoever sickness H4245 there be: Then what prayer H8605 or what supplication H8467 soever shall be made of any man, H120 or of all thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 when every one H376 shall know H3045 his own sore H5061 and his own grief, H4341 and shall spread forth H6566 his hands H3709 in this house: H1004 Then hear H8085 thou from heaven H8064 thy dwelling H3427 place, H4349 and forgive, H5545 and render H5414 unto every man H376 according unto all his ways, H1870 whose heart H3824 thou knowest; H3045 (for thou only knowest H3045 the hearts H3824 of the children H1121 of men:) H120
Hearken H8085 therefore unto the supplications H8469 of thy servant, H5650 and of thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 which they shall make H6419 toward this place: H4725 hear H8085 thou from thy dwelling H3427 place, H4725 even from heaven; H8064 and when thou hearest, H8085 forgive. H5545
And hearken H8085 thou to the supplication H8467 of thy servant, H5650 and of thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 when they shall pray H6419 toward this place: H4725 and hear H8085 thou in heaven H8064 thy dwelling H3427 place: H4725 and when thou hearest, H8085 forgive. H5545 If any man H376 trespass H2398 against his neighbour, H7453 and an oath H423 be laid H5375 upon him to cause him to swear, H422 and the oath H423 come H935 before H6440 thine altar H4196 in this house: H1004 Then hear H8085 thou in heaven, H8064 and do, H6213 and judge H8199 thy servants, H5650 condemning H7561 the wicked, H7563 to bring H5414 his way H1870 upon his head; H7218 and justifying H6663 the righteous, H6662 to give H5414 him according to his righteousness. H6666 When thy people H5971 Israel H3478 be smitten down H5062 before H6440 the enemy, H341 because they have sinned H2398 against thee, and shall turn again H7725 to thee, and confess H3034 thy name, H8034 and pray, H6419 and make supplication H2603 unto thee in this house: H1004 Then hear H8085 thou in heaven, H8064 and forgive H5545 the sin H2403 of thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 and bring them again H7725 unto the land H127 which thou gavest H5414 unto their fathers. H1 When heaven H8064 is shut up, H6113 and there is no rain, H4306 because they have sinned H2398 against thee; if they pray H6419 toward this place, H4725 and confess H3034 thy name, H8034 and turn H7725 from their sin, H2403 when thou afflictest H6031 them: Then hear H8085 thou in heaven, H8064 and forgive H5545 the sin H2403 of thy servants, H5650 and of thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 that thou teach H3384 them the good H2896 way H1870 wherein they should walk, H3212 and give H5414 rain H4306 upon thy land, H776 which thou hast given H5414 to thy people H5971 for an inheritance. H5159 If there be in the land H776 famine, H7458 if there be pestilence, H1698 blasting, H7711 mildew, H3420 locust, H697 or if there be caterpiller; H2625 if their enemy H341 besiege H6887 them in the land H776 of their cities; H8179 whatsoever plague, H5061 whatsoever sickness H4245 there be; What prayer H8605 and supplication H8467 soever be made by any man, H120 or by all thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 which shall know H3045 every man H376 the plague H5061 of his own heart, H3824 and spread forth H6566 his hands H3709 toward this house: H1004 Then hear H8085 thou in heaven H8064 thy dwelling H3427 place, H4349 and forgive, H5545 and do, H6213 and give H5414 to every man H376 according to his ways, H1870 whose heart H3824 thou knowest; H3045 (for thou, even thou only, knowest H3045 the hearts H3824 of all the children H1121 of men;) H120

Commentary on Daniel 9 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 9
In this chapter we have,
And it is the clearest, brightest, prophecy of the Messiah, in all the Old Testament.
Dan 9:1-3
We left Daniel, in the close of the foregoing chapter, employed in the king's business; but here we have him employed in better business than any king had for him, speaking to God and hearing from him, not for himself only, but for the church, whose mouth he was to God, and for whose use the oracles of God were committed to him, relating to the days of the Messiah. Observe,
Dan 9:4-19
We have here Daniel's prayer to God as his God, and the confession which he joined with that prayer: I prayed, and made my confession. Note, In every prayer we must make confession, not only of the sins we have been guilty of (which we commonly call confession), but of our faith in God and dependence upon him, our sorrow for sin and our resolutions against it. It must be our confession, must be the language of our own convictions and that which we ourselves do heartily subscribe to.
Let us go over the several parts of this prayer, which we have reason to think that he offered up much more largely than is here recorded, these being only the heads of it.
Dan 9:20-27
We have here the answer that was immediately sent to Daniel's prayer, and it is a very memorable one, as it contains the most illustrious prediction of Christ and gospel-grace that is extant in all the Old Testament. If John Baptist was the morning-star, this was the day-break to the Sun of righteousness, the day-spring from on high. Here is,
