5 Thou shalt also consider H3045 in H5973 thine heart, H3824 that, as a man H376 chasteneth H3256 his son, H1121 so the LORD H3068 thy God H430 chasteneth H3256 thee.
I will be his father, H1 and he shall be my son. H1121 If he commit iniquity, H5753 I will chasten H3198 him with the rod H7626 of men, H582 and with the stripes H5061 of the children H1121 of men: H120
But G1161 when we are judged, G2919 we are chastened G3811 of G5259 the Lord, G2962 that G3363 we should G2632 not G3363 be condemned G2632 with G4862 the world. G2889
And G2532 ye have forgotten G1585 the exhortation G3874 which G3748 speaketh G1256 unto you G5213 as G5613 unto children, G5207 My G3450 son, G5207 despise G3643 not G3361 thou G3643 the chastening G3809 of the Lord, G2962 nor G3366 faint G1590 when thou art rebuked G1651 of G5259 him: G846 For G1063 whom G3739 the Lord G2962 loveth G25 he chasteneth, G3811 and G1161 scourgeth G3146 every G3956 son G5207 whom G3739 he receiveth. G3858 If G1487 ye endure G5278 chastening, G3809 God G2316 dealeth G4374 with you G5213 as G5613 with sons; G5207 for G1063 what G5101 son G5207 is he G2076 whom G3739 the father G3962 chasteneth G3811 not? G3756 But G1161 if G1487 ye be G2075 without G5565 chastisement, G3809 whereof G3739 all G3956 are G1096 partakers, G3353 then G686 are ye G2075 bastards, G3541 and G2532 not G3756 sons. G5207 Furthermore G1534 G3303 we have had G2192 fathers G3962 of our G2257 flesh G4561 which corrected G3810 us, and G2532 we gave them reverence: G1788 shall we G5293 not G3756 much G4183 rather G3123 be in subjection G5293 unto the Father G3962 of spirits, G4151 and G2532 live? G2198 For G1063 they verily G3303 for G4314 a few G3641 days G2250 chastened G3811 us after G2596 their own G846 pleasure; G1380 but G1161 he for G1909 our profit, G4851 that G1519 we might be partakers G3335 of his G846 holiness. G41 Now G1161 no G3956 G3756 chastening G3809 for G4314 G3303 the present G3918 seemeth G1380 to be G1511 joyous, G5479 but G235 grievous: G3077 nevertheless G1161 afterward G5305 it yieldeth G591 the peaceable G1516 fruit G2590 of righteousness G1343 unto them which are exercised G1128 thereby. G1223 G846
Only take heed H8104 to thyself, and keep H8104 thy soul H5315 diligently, H3966 lest thou forget H7911 the things H1697 which thine eyes H5869 have seen, H7200 and lest they depart H5493 from thy heart H3824 all the days H3117 of thy life: H2416 but teach H3045 them thy sons, H1121 and thy sons' H1121 sons; H1121
Behold, happy H835 is the man H582 whom God H433 correcteth: H3198 therefore despise H3988 not thou the chastening H4148 of the Almighty: H7706 For he maketh sore, H3510 and bindeth up: H2280 he woundeth, H4272 and his hands H3027 make whole. H7495
Therefore, thou son H1121 of man, H120 prepare H6213 thee stuff H3627 for removing, H1473 and remove H1540 by day H3119 in their sight; H5869 and thou shalt remove H1540 from thy place H4725 to another H312 place H4725 in their sight: H5869 it may be they will consider, H7200 though they be a rebellious H4805 house. H1004
Because he considereth, H7200 and turneth away H7725 from all his transgressions H6588 that he hath committed, H6213 he shall surely H2421 live, H2421 he shall not die. H4191
Take heed H8104 unto yourselves, lest ye forget H7911 the covenant H1285 of the LORD H3068 your God, H430 which he made H3772 with you, and make H6213 you a graven image, H6459 or the likeness H8544 of any H3605 thing, which the LORD H3068 thy God H430 hath forbidden H6680 thee.

Commentary on Deuteronomy 8 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 8
Moses had charged parents in teaching their children to whet the word of God upon them (ch. 6:7) by frequent repetition of the same things over and over again; and here he himself takes the same method of instructing the Israelites as his children, frequently inculcating the same precepts and cautions, with the same motives or arguments to enforce them, that what they heard so often might abide with them. In this chapter Moses gives them,
Deu 8:1-9
The charge here given them is the same as before, to keep and do all God's commandments. Their obedience must be,
Deu 8:10-20
Moses, having mentioned the great plenty they would find in the land of Canaan, finds it necessary to caution them against the abuse of that plenty, which was a sin they would be the more prone to new that they came into the vineyard of the Lord, immediately out of a barren desert.
