17 And the king H4428 loved H157 Esther H635 above all the women, H802 and she obtained H5375 grace H2580 and favour H2617 in his sight H6440 more than all the virgins; H1330 so that he set H7760 the royal H4438 crown H3804 upon her head, H7218 and made her queen H4427 instead of Vashti. H2060
He raiseth up H6965 the poor H1800 out of the dust, H6083 and lifteth H7311 the needy H34 out of the dunghill; H830 That he may set H3427 him with princes, H5081 even with the princes H5081 of his people. H5971
For G3754 he hath regarded G1914 G1909 the low estate G5014 of his G846 handmaiden: G1399 for, G1063 behold, G2400 from G575 henceforth G3568 all G3956 generations G1074 shall call G3106 me G3165 blessed. G3106 For G3754 he that is mighty G1415 hath done G4160 to me G3427 great things; G3167 and G2532 holy G40 is his G846 name. G3686 And G2532 his G846 mercy G1656 is on them that fear G5399 him G846 from G1519 generation G1074 to generation. G1074 He hath shewed G4160 strength G2904 with G1722 his G846 arm; G1023 he hath scattered G1287 the proud G5244 in the imagination G1271 of their G846 hearts. G2588 He hath put down G2507 the mighty G1413 from G575 their seats, G2362 and G2532 exalted G5312 them of low degree. G5011

Commentary on Esther 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
Two things are recorded in this chapter, which were working towards the deliverance of the Jews from Haman's conspiracy:-
Est 2:1-20
How God put down one that was high and mighty from her seat we read in the chapter before, and are now to be told how he exalted one of low degree, as the virgin Mary observes in her song (Lu. 1:52) and Hannah before her, 1 Sa. 2:4-8. Vashti being humbled for her height, Esther is advanced for her humility. Observe,
Est 2:21-23
This good service which Mordecai did to the government, in discovering a plot against the life of the king, is here recorded, because the mention of it will again occur to his advantage. No step is yet taken towards Haman's design of the Jews' destruction, but several steps are taken towards God's design of their deliverance, and this for one. God now gives Mordecai an opportunity of doing the king a good turn, that he might have the fairer opportunity afterwards of doing the Jews a good turn.
