14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. H5003
They were as fed H2109 horses H5483 in the morning: H7904 every one H376 neighed H6670 after his neighbour's H7453 wife. H802 Shall I not visit H6485 for these things? saith H5002 the LORD: H3068 and shall not my soul H5315 be avenged H5358 on such a nation H1471 as this?
And G2532 he saith G3004 unto them, G846 Whosoever G3739 G1437 shall put away G630 his G846 wife, G1135 and G2532 marry G1060 another, G243 committeth adultery G3429 against G1909 her. G846 And G2532 if G1437 a woman G1135 shall put away G630 her G846 husband, G435 and G2532 be married G1060 to another, G243 she committeth adultery. G3429
But G2532 fornication, G4202 and G1161 all G3956 uncleanness, G167 or G2228 covetousness, G4124 let it G3687 not be once G3366 named G3687 among G1722 you, G5213 as G2531 becometh G4241 saints; G40 Neither G2532 filthiness, G151 nor G2532 foolish talking, G3473 nor G2228 jesting, G2160 which G3588 are G433 not G3756 convenient: G433 but G235 rather G3123 giving of thanks. G2169 For G1063 this G5124 ye know, G2075 G1097 that G3754 no G3756 G3956 whoremonger, G4205 nor G2228 unclean person, G169 nor G2228 covetous man, G4123 who G3739 is G2076 an idolater, G1496 hath G2192 any inheritance G2817 in G1722 the kingdom G932 of Christ G5547 and G2532 of God. G2316
For G1063 the woman G1135 which hath an husband G5220 is bound G1210 by the law G3551 to her husband G435 so long as he liveth; G2198 but G1161 if G1437 the husband G435 be dead, G599 she is loosed G2673 from G575 the law G3551 of her husband. G435 So then G686 G3767 if, G1437 while her husband G435 liveth, G2198 she be married G1096 to another G2087 man, G435 she shall be called G5537 an adulteress: G3428 but G1161 if G1437 her husband G435 be dead, G599 she is G2076 free G1658 from G575 that law; G3551 so that she G846 is G1511 no G3361 adulteress, G3428 though she be married G1096 to another G2087 man. G435
Ye have heard G191 that G3754 it was said G4483 by them of old time, G744 Thou shalt G3431 not G3756 commit adultery: G3431 But G1161 I G1473 say G3004 unto you, G5213 That G3754 whosoever G3956 looketh G991 on a woman G1135 to G4314 lust after G1937 her G846 hath committed adultery G3431 with her G846 already G2235 in G1722 his G846 heart. G2588
And of them shall be taken up H3947 a curse H7045 by all the captivity H1546 of Judah H3063 which are in Babylon, H894 saying, H559 The LORD H3068 make H7760 thee like Zedekiah H6667 and like Ahab, H256 whom the king H4428 of Babylon H894 roasted H7033 in the fire; H784 Because they have committed H6213 villany H5039 in Israel, H3478 and have committed H6213 adultery H5003 with their neighbours' H7453 wives, H802 and have spoken H1696 lying H8267 words H1697 in my name, H8034 which I have not commanded H6680 them; even I know, H3045 and am a witness, H5707 saith H5002 the LORD. H3068
Come, H3212 let us take our fill H7301 of love H1730 until the morning: H1242 let us solace H5965 ourselves with loves. H159 For the goodman H376 is not at home, H1004 he is gone H1980 a long H7350 journey: H1870 He hath taken H3947 a bag H6872 of money H3701 with him, H3027 and will come H935 home H1004 at the day H3117 appointed. H3677 With her much H7230 fair speech H3948 she caused him to yield, H5186 with the flattering H2506 of her lips H8193 she forced H5080 him. He goeth H1980 after H310 her straightway, H6597 as an ox H7794 goeth H935 to the slaughter, H2874 or as a fool H191 to the correction H4148 of the stocks; H5914 Till a dart H2671 strike H6398 through his liver; H3516 as a bird H6833 hasteth H4116 to the snare, H6341 and knoweth H3045 not that it is for his life. H5315 Hearken H8085 unto me now therefore, O ye children, H1121 and attend H7181 to the words H561 of my mouth. H6310 Let not thine heart H3820 decline H7847 to her ways, H1870 go not astray H8582 in her paths. H5410 For she hath cast down H5307 many H7227 wounded: H2491 yea, many strong H6099 men have been slain H2026 by her. Her house H1004 is the way H1870 to hell, H7585 going down H3381 to the chambers H2315 of death. H4194
To keep H8104 thee from the evil H7451 woman, H802 from the flattery H2513 of the tongue H3956 of a strange woman. H5237 Lust H2530 not after her beauty H3308 in thine heart; H3824 neither let her take H3947 thee with her eyelids. H6079 For by means of H1157 a whorish H2181 woman H802 a man is brought to a piece H3603 of bread: H3899 and the adulteress H802 H376 will hunt H6679 for the precious H3368 life. H5315 Can a man H376 take H2846 fire H784 in his bosom, H2436 and his clothes H899 not be burned? H8313 Can one H376 go H1980 upon hot coals, H1513 and his feet H7272 not be burned? H3554 So he that goeth in H935 to his neighbour's H7453 wife; H802 whosoever toucheth H5060 her shall not be innocent. H5352 Men do not despise H936 a thief, H1590 if he steal H1589 to satisfy H4390 his soul H5315 when he is hungry; H7456 But if he be found, H4672 he shall restore H7999 sevenfold; H7659 he shall give H5414 all the substance H1952 of his house. H1004 But whoso committeth adultery H5003 with a woman H802 lacketh H2638 understanding: H3820 he that doeth H6213 it destroyeth H7843 his own soul. H5315 A wound H5061 and dishonour H7036 shall he get; H4672 and his reproach H2781 shall not be wiped away. H4229 For jealousy H7068 is the rage H2534 of a man: H1397 therefore he will not spare H2550 in the day H3117 of vengeance. H5359 He will not regard H5375 H6440 any ransom; H3724 neither will he rest content, H14 though thou givest many H7235 gifts. H7810
Whose ways H734 are crooked, H6141 and they froward H3868 in their paths: H4570 To deliver H5337 thee from the strange H2114 woman, H802 even from the stranger H5237 which flattereth H2505 with her words; H561 Which forsaketh H5800 the guide H441 of her youth, H5271 and forgetteth H7911 the covenant H1285 of her God. H430 For her house H1004 inclineth H7743 unto death, H4194 and her paths H4570 unto the dead. H7496
And David H1732 sent H7971 messengers, H4397 and took H3947 her; and she came in H935 unto him, and he lay H7901 with her; for she was purified H6942 from her uncleanness: H2932 and she returned H7725 unto her house. H1004 And the woman H802 conceived, H2029 and sent H7971 and told H5046 David, H1732 and said, H559 I am with child. H2030

Commentary on Exodus 20 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 20
All things being prepared for the solemn promulgation of the divine law, we have, in this chapter,
Exd 20:1-11
Here is,
Exd 20:12-17
We have here the laws of the second table, as they are commonly called, the last six of the ten commandments, comprehending our duty to ourselves and to one another, and constituting a comment upon the second great commandment, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. As religion towards God is an essential branch of universal righteousness, so righteousness towards men is an essential branch of true religion. Godliness and honesty must go together.
Exd 20:18-21
Exd 20:22-26
Moses having gone into the thick darkness, where God was, God there spoke in his hearing only, privately and without terror, all that follows hence to the end of ch. 23, which is mostly an exposition of the ten commandments; and he was to transmit it by word of mouth first, and afterwards in writing, to the people. The laws in these verses related to God's worship.
