21 And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto Moses, H4872 When thou goest H3212 to return H7725 into Egypt, H4714 see H7200 that thou do H6213 all those wonders H4159 before H6440 Pharaoh, H6547 which I have put H7760 in thine hand: H3027 but I will harden H2388 his heart, H3820 that he shall not let the people H5971 go. H7971
Therefore G686 G3767 hath he mercy G1653 on whom G3739 he will G2309 have mercy, and G1161 whom G3739 he will G2309 he hardeneth. G4645
And the LORD H3068 hardened H2388 the heart H3820 of Pharaoh, H6547 and he hearkened H8085 not unto them; as the LORD H3068 had spoken H1696 unto Moses. H4872
He hath blinded G5186 their G846 eyes, G3788 and G2532 hardened G4456 their G846 heart; G2588 that G3363 they should G1492 not G3363 see G1492 with their eyes, G3788 nor G2532 understand G3539 with their heart, G2588 and G2532 be converted, G1994 and G2532 I should heal G2390 them. G846
For it was of the LORD H3068 to harden H2388 their hearts, H3820 that they should come against H7125 Israel H3478 in battle, H4421 that he might destroy them utterly, H2763 and that they might have no favour, H8467 but that he might destroy H8045 them, as the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 Moses. H4872
But the LORD H3068 hardened H2388 Pharaoh's H6547 heart, H3820 so that he would not let the children H1121 of Israel H3478 go. H7971
And G2532 with G1722 all G3956 deceivableness G539 of unrighteousness G93 in G1722 them that perish; G622 because G473 G3739 they received G1209 not G3756 the love G26 of the truth, G225 that G1519 they G846 might be saved. G4982 And G2532 for this G5124 cause G1223 God G2316 shall send G3992 them G846 strong G1753 delusion, G4106 that G1519 they G846 should believe G4100 a lie: G5579 That G2443 they all G3956 might be damned G2919 who G3588 believed G4100 not G3361 the truth, G225 but G235 had pleasure G2106 in G1722 unrighteousness. G93
To G3739 the one G3303 we are the savour G3744 of death G2288 unto G1519 death; G2288 and G1161 to the other G3739 the savour G3744 of life G2222 unto G1519 life. G2222 And G2532 who G5101 is sufficient G2425 for G4314 these things? G5023
(According as G2531 it is written, G1125 God G2316 hath given G1325 them G846 the spirit G4151 of slumber, G2659 eyes G3788 that they should G991 not G3361 see, G991 and G2532 ears G3775 that they should G191 not G3361 hear;) G191 unto G2193 this G4594 day. G2250 And G2532 David G1138 saith, G3004 Let G1096 their G846 table G5132 be made G1096 a snare, G1519 G3803 and G2532 a trap, G1519 G2339 and G2532 a stumblingblock, G1519 G4625 and G2532 a recompence G1519 G468 unto them: G846 Let G4654 their G846 eyes G3788 be darkened, G4654 that they may G991 not G3361 see, G991 and G2532 bow down G4781 their G846 back G3577 alway. G1275
And G2532 even as G2531 they did G1381 not G3756 like G1381 to retain G2192 God G2316 in G1722 their knowledge, G1922 God G2316 gave G3860 them G846 over G3860 to G1519 a reprobate G96 mind, G3563 to do G4160 those things which are G2520 not G3361 convenient; G2520
Make the heart H3820 of this people H5971 fat, H8080 and make their ears H241 heavy, H3513 and shut H8173 their eyes; H5869 lest they see H7200 with their eyes, H5869 and hear H8085 with their ears, H241 and understand H995 with their heart, H3824 and convert, H7725 and be healed. H7495
And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto him, Wherewith? And he said, H559 I will go forth, H3318 and I will be a lying H8267 spirit H7307 in the mouth H6310 of all his prophets. H5030 And he said, H559 Thou shalt persuade H6601 him, and prevail H3201 also: go forth, H3318 and do H6213 so.
From Aroer, H6177 which is by the brink H8193 of the river H5158 of Arnon, H769 and from the city H5892 that is by the river, H5158 even unto Gilead, H1568 there was not one city H7151 too strong H7682 for us: the LORD H3068 our God H430 delivered H5414 all unto us: H6440
But Sihon H5511 king H4428 of Heshbon H2809 would H14 not let us pass H5674 by him: for the LORD H3068 thy God H430 hardened H7185 his spirit, H7307 and made his heart H3824 obstinate, H553 that he might deliver H5414 him into thy hand, H3027 as appeareth this day. H3117 And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto me, Behold, H7200 I have begun H2490 to give H5414 Sihon H5511 and his land H776 before H6440 thee: begin H2490 to possess, H3423 that thou mayest inherit H3423 his land. H776 Then Sihon H5511 came out H3318 against H7125 us, he and all his people, H5971 to fight H4421 at Jahaz. H3096 And the LORD H3068 our God H430 delivered H5414 him before H6440 us; and we smote H5221 him, and his sons, H1121 and all his people. H5971

Commentary on Exodus 4 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 4
This chapter,
Exd 4:1-9
It was a very great honour that Moses was called to when God commissioned him to bring Israel out of Egypt; yet he is with difficulty persuaded to accept the commission, and does it at last with great reluctance, which we should rather impute to a humble diffidence of himself and his own sufficiency than to any unbelieving distrust of God and his word and power. Note, Those whom God designs for preferment he clothes with humility; the most fit for service are the least forward.
Exd 4:10-17
Moses still continues backward to the service for which God had designed him, even to a fault; for now we can no longer impute it to his humility and modesty, but must own that here was too much of cowardice, slothfulness, and unbelief in it. Observe here,
