27 And the LORD H3068 said H559 to Aaron, H175 Go H3212 into the wilderness H4057 to meet H7125 Moses. H4872 And he went, H3212 and met H6298 him in the mount H2022 of God, H430 and kissed H5401 him.
Now Moses H4872 kept H1961 H7462 the flock H6629 of Jethro H3503 his father in law, H2859 the priest H3548 of Midian: H4080 and he led H5090 the flock H6629 to the backside H310 of the desert, H4057 and came H935 to the mountain H2022 of God, H430 even to Horeb. H2722
And Jacob H3290 kissed H5401 Rachel, H7354 and lifted up H5375 his voice, H6963 and wept. H1058
And the anger H639 of the LORD H3068 was kindled H2734 against Moses, H4872 and he said, H559 Is not Aaron H175 the Levite H3881 thy brother? H251 I know H3045 that he can speak H1696 well. H1696 And also, behold, he cometh forth H3318 to meet H7125 thee: and when he seeth H7200 thee, he will be glad H8055 in his heart. H3820 And thou shalt speak H1696 unto him, and put H7760 words H1697 in his mouth: H6310 and I will be with thy mouth, H6310 and with his mouth, H6310 and will teach H3384 you what ye shall do. H6213 And he shall be thy spokesman H1696 unto the people: H5971 and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, H6310 and thou shalt be to him instead of God. H430
And Moses H4872 went up H5927 unto God, H430 and the LORD H3068 called H7121 unto him out of the mountain, H2022 saying, H559 Thus shalt thou say H559 to the house H1004 of Jacob, H3290 and tell H5046 the children H1121 of Israel; H3478
And all the people H5971 saw H7200 the thunderings, H6963 and the lightnings, H3940 and the noise H6963 of the trumpet, H7782 and the mountain H2022 smoking: H6226 and when the people H5971 saw H7200 it, they removed, H5128 and stood H5975 afar off. H7350
And Moses H4872 went up H5927 into the mount, H2022 and a cloud H6051 covered H3680 the mount. H2022 And the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 abode H7931 upon mount H2022 Sinai, H5514 and the cloud H6051 covered H3680 it six H8337 days: H3117 and the seventh H7637 day H3117 he called H7121 unto Moses H4872 out of the midst H8432 of the cloud. H6051 And the sight H4758 of the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 was like devouring H398 fire H784 on the top H7218 of the mount H2022 in the eyes H5869 of the children H1121 of Israel. H3478
And he arose, H6965 and did eat H398 and drink, H8354 and went H3212 in the strength H3581 of that meat H396 forty H705 days H3117 and forty H705 nights H3915 unto Horeb H2722 the mount H2022 of God. H430
Two H8147 are better H2896 than one; H259 because they have H3426 a good H2896 reward H7939 for their labour. H5999
And G2532 now G3568 send G3992 men G435 to G1519 Joppa, G2445 and G2532 call for G3343 one Simon, G4613 whose G3739 surname is G1941 Peter: G4074 He G3778 lodgeth G3579 with G3844 one G5100 Simon G4613 a tanner, G1038 whose G3739 house G3614 is G2076 by G3844 the sea side: G2281 he G3778 shall tell G2980 thee G4671 what G5101 thou G4571 oughtest G1163 to do. Commentary on Exodus 4 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 4
This chapter,
Exd 4:1-9
It was a very great honour that Moses was called to when God commissioned him to bring Israel out of Egypt; yet he is with difficulty persuaded to accept the commission, and does it at last with great reluctance, which we should rather impute to a humble diffidence of himself and his own sufficiency than to any unbelieving distrust of God and his word and power. Note, Those whom God designs for preferment he clothes with humility; the most fit for service are the least forward.
Exd 4:10-17
Moses still continues backward to the service for which God had designed him, even to a fault; for now we can no longer impute it to his humility and modesty, but must own that here was too much of cowardice, slothfulness, and unbelief in it. Observe here,
