24 And there shall be no more a pricking H3992 brier H5544 unto the house H1004 of Israel, H3478 nor any grieving H3510 thorn H6975 of all that are round about H5439 them, that despised H7590 them; and they shall know H3045 that I am the Lord H136 GOD. H3069
But if ye will not drive out H3423 the inhabitants H3427 of the land H776 from before H6440 you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain H3498 of them shall be pricks H7899 in your eyes, H5869 and thorns H6796 in your sides, H6654 and shall vex H6887 you in the land H776 wherein ye dwell. H3427
Know H3045 for a certainty H3045 that the LORD H3068 your God H430 will no more H3254 drive out H3423 any of these nations H1471 from before H6440 you; but they shall be snares H6341 and traps H4170 unto you, and scourges H7850 in your sides, H6654 and thorns H6796 in your eyes, H5869 until ye perish H6 from off this good H2896 land H127 which the LORD H3068 your God H430 hath given H5414 you.
And G2532 lest G3363 I should be exalted above measure G5229 through the abundance G5236 of the revelations, G602 there was given G1325 to me G3427 a thorn G4647 in the flesh, G4561 the messenger G32 of Satan G4566 to G2443 buffet G2852 me, G3165 lest G3363 I should be exalted above measure. G5229
Thus saith H559 the LORD H3068 against all mine evil H7451 neighbours, H7934 that touch H5060 the inheritance H5159 which I have caused my people H5971 Israel H3478 to inherit; H5157 Behold, I will pluck them out H5428 of their land, H127 and pluck out H5428 the house H1004 of Judah H3063 from among H8432 them.
And thou, son H1121 of man, H120 be not afraid H3372 of them, neither be afraid H3372 of their words, H1697 though briers H5621 and thorns H5544 be with thee, and thou dost dwell H3427 among scorpions: H6137 be not afraid H3372 of their words, H1697 nor be dismayed H2865 at their looks, H6440 though they be a rebellious H4805 house. H1004
And they shall dwell H3427 safely H983 therein, and shall build H1129 houses, H1004 and plant H5193 vineyards; H3754 yea, they shall dwell H3427 with confidence, H983 when I have executed H6213 judgments H8201 upon all those that despise H7590 them round about H5439 them; and they shall know H3045 that I am the LORD H3068 their God. H430
Then the heathen H1471 that are left H7604 round about H5439 you shall know H3045 that I the LORD H3068 build H1129 the ruined H2040 places, and plant H5193 that that was desolate: H8074 I the LORD H3068 have spoken H1696 it, and I will do H6213 it. Thus saith H559 the Lord H136 GOD; H3069 I will yet for this be enquired H1875 of by the house H1004 of Israel, H3478 to do H6213 it for them; I will increase H7235 them with men H120 like a flock. H6629 As the holy H6944 flock, H6629 as the flock H6629 of Jerusalem H3389 in her solemn feasts; H4150 so shall the waste H2720 cities H5892 be filled H4392 with flocks H6629 of men: H120 and they shall know H3045 that I am the LORD. H3068
The best H2896 of them is as a brier: H2312 the most upright H3477 is sharper than a thorn hedge: H4534 the day H3117 of thy watchmen H6822 and thy visitation H6486 cometh; H935 now shall be their perplexity. H3998
And G2532 God G2316 shall wipe away G1813 all G3956 tears G1144 from G575 their G846 eyes; G3788 and G2532 there shall be G2071 no G3756 more G2089 death, G2288 neither G3777 sorrow, G3997 nor G3777 crying, G2906 neither G3777 G3756 shall there be G2071 any more G2089 pain: G4192 for G3754 the former things G4413 are passed away. Commentary on Ezekiel 28 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 28
In this chapter we have,
Eze 28:1-10
We had done with Tyrus in the foregoing chapter, but now the prince of Tyrus is to be singled out from the rest. Here is something to be said to him by himself, a message to him from God, which the prophet must send him, whether he will hear or whether he will forbear.
Eze 28:11-19
As after the prediction of the ruin of Tyre (ch. 26) followed a pathetic lamentation for it (ch. 27), so after the ruin of the king of Tyre is foretold it is bewailed.
Eze 28:20-26
God's glory is his great end, both in all the good and in all the evil which proceed out of the mouth of the Most High; so we find in these verses.
