21 Nevertheless if thou warn H2094 the righteous H6662 man, that the righteous H6662 sin H2398 not, and he doth not sin, H2398 he shall surely H2421 live, H2421 because he is warned; H2094 also thou hast delivered H5337 thy soul. H5315
For G1063 this G5124 ye know, G2075 G1097 that G3754 no G3756 G3956 whoremonger, G4205 nor G2228 unclean person, G169 nor G2228 covetous man, G4123 who G3739 is G2076 an idolater, G1496 hath G2192 any inheritance G2817 in G1722 the kingdom G932 of Christ G5547 and G2532 of God. G2316 Let G538 no man G3367 deceive G538 you G5209 with vain G2756 words: G3056 for G1063 because G1223 of these things G5023 cometh G2064 the wrath G3709 of God G2316 upon G1909 the children G5207 of disobedience. G543
Whosoever G3956 abideth G3306 in G1722 him G846 sinneth G264 not: G3756 whosoever G3956 sinneth G264 hath G3708 not G3756 seen G3708 him, G846 neither G3761 known G1097 him. G846 Little children, G5040 let G4105 no man G3367 deceive G4105 you: G5209 he that doeth G4160 righteousness G1343 is G2076 righteous, G1342 even as G2531 he G1565 is G2076 righteous. G1342 He that committeth G4160 sin G266 is G2076 of G1537 the devil; G1228 for G3754 the devil G1228 sinneth G264 from G575 the beginning. G746 For G1519 this purpose G5124 the Son G5207 of God G2316 was manifested, G5319 that G2443 he might destroy G3089 the works G2041 of the devil. G1228 Whosoever G3956 is born G1080 of G1537 God G2316 doth G4160 not G3756 commit sin; G266 for G3754 his G846 seed G4690 remaineth G3306 in G1722 him: G846 and G2532 he cannot G3756 G1410 sin, G264 because G3754 he is born G1080 of G1537 God. G2316
That no G3361 man go beyond G5233 and G2532 defraud G4122 his G846 brother G80 in G1722 any matter: G4229 because G1360 that the Lord G2962 is the avenger G1558 of G4012 all G3956 such, G5130 as G2531 we G4277 also G2532 have forewarned G4277 you G5213 and G2532 testified. G1263 For G1063 God G2316 hath G2564 not G3756 called G2564 us G2248 unto G1909 uncleanness, G167 but G235 unto G1722 holiness. G38 He therefore G5105 that despiseth, G114 despiseth G114 not G3756 man, G444 but G235 God, G2316 who hath G1325 also G2532 given G1325 unto G1519 us G2248 his G846 holy G40 Spirit. G4151
Mortify G3499 therefore G3767 your G5216 members G3196 which G3588 are upon G1909 the earth; G1093 fornication, G4202 uncleanness, G167 inordinate affection, G3806 evil G2556 concupiscence, G1939 and G2532 covetousness, G4124 which G3748 is G2076 idolatry: G1495 For G1223 which things' sake G3739 the wrath G3709 of God G2316 cometh G2064 on G1909 the children G5207 of disobedience: G543 In G1722 the which G3739 ye G5210 also G2532 walked G4043 some time, G4218 when G3753 ye lived G2198 in G1722 them. G846 But G1161 now G3570 ye G5210 also G2532 put off G659 all these; G3956 anger, G3709 wrath, G2372 malice, G2549 blasphemy, G988 filthy communication G148 out of G1537 your G5216 mouth. G4750
This G5124 I say G3004 therefore, G3767 and G2532 testify G3143 in G1722 the Lord, G2962 that ye G5209 henceforth G3371 walk G4043 not G3371 as G2531 G2532 other G3062 Gentiles G1484 walk, G4043 in G1722 the vanity G3153 of their G846 mind, G3563 Having the understanding G1271 darkened, G4654 being G5607 alienated G526 from the life G2222 of God G2316 through G1223 the ignorance G52 that is G5607 in G1722 them, G846 because G1223 of the blindness G4457 of their G846 heart: G2588 Who G3748 being past feeling G524 have given G3860 themselves G1438 over G3860 unto lasciviousness, G766 to G1519 work G2039 all G3956 uncleanness G167 with G1722 greediness. G4124 But G1161 ye G5210 have G3129 not G3756 so G3779 learned G3129 Christ; G5547 If so be that G1489 ye have heard G191 him, G846 and G2532 have been taught G1321 by G1722 him, G846 as G2531 the truth G225 is G2076 in G1722 Jesus: G2424
Behold, G2396 I G1473 Paul G3972 say G3004 unto you, G5213 that G3754 if G1437 ye be circumcised, G4059 Christ G5547 shall profit G5623 you G5209 nothing. G3762 For G1161 I testify G3143 again G3825 to every G3956 man G444 that is circumcised, G4059 that G3754 he is G2076 a debtor G3781 to do G4160 the whole G3650 law. G3551 Christ G5547 is become of no effect unto you, G575 G2673 whosoever of you G3748 are justified G1344 by G1722 the law; G3551 ye are fallen from G1601 grace. G5485 For G1063 we G2249 through the Spirit G4151 wait for G553 the hope G1680 of righteousness G1343 by G1537 faith. G4102 For G1063 in G1722 Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 neither G3777 circumcision G4061 availeth G2480 any thing, G5100 nor G3777 uncircumcision; G203 but G235 faith G4102 which worketh G1754 by G1223 love. G26 Ye did run G5143 well; G2573 who G5101 did hinder G348 G1465 you G5209 that ye should G3982 not G3361 obey G3982 the truth? G225
But G1161 when G3753 Peter G4074 was come G2064 to G1519 Antioch, G490 I withstood G436 him G846 to G2596 the face, G4383 because G3754 he was G2258 to be blamed. G2607 For G1063 before G4253 that certain G5100 came G2064 from G575 James, G2385 he did eat G4906 with G3326 the Gentiles: G1484 but G1161 when G3753 they were come, G2064 he withdrew G5288 and G2532 separated G873 himself, G1438 fearing G5399 them which were of G1537 the circumcision. G4061 And G2532 the other G3062 Jews G2453 dissembled G4942 likewise G2532 with him; G846 insomuch G5620 that Barnabas G921 also G2532 was carried away G4879 with their G846 dissimulation. G5272
I marvel G2296 that G3754 ye are G3346 so G3779 soon G5030 removed G3346 from G575 him that called G2564 you G5209 into G1722 the grace G5485 of Christ G5547 unto G1519 another G2087 gospel: G2098 Which G3739 is G2076 not G3756 another; G243 but there be G1526 some G5100 that G1508 trouble G5015 you, G5209 and G2532 would G2309 pervert G3344 the gospel G2098 of Christ. G5547 But G235 though G2532 G1437 we, G2249 or G2228 an angel G32 from G1537 heaven, G3772 preach any other gospel G2097 unto you G5213 than G3844 that which G3739 we have preached G2097 unto you, G5213 let him be G2077 accursed. G331 As G5613 we said before, G4280 so G2532 say I G3004 now G737 again, G3825 If any G1536 man preach G2097 any other G3844 gospel G2097 unto you G5209 than G3844 that G3739 ye have received, G3880 let him be G2077 accursed. G331 For G1063 do I G3982 now G737 persuade G3982 men, G444 or G2228 God? G2316 or G2228 do I seek G2212 to please G700 men? G444 for G1063 if G1487 I G700 yet G2089 pleased G700 men, G444 I should G302 not G3756 be G2252 the servant G1401 of Christ. G5547
For G1063 there shall arise G1453 false Christs, G5580 and G2532 false prophets, G5578 and G2532 shall shew G1325 great G3173 signs G4592 and G2532 wonders; G5059 insomuch that, G5620 if G1487 it were possible, G1415 they shall deceive G4105 the very G2532 elect. G1588 Behold, G2400 I have told G4280 you G5213 before. G4280
Yet if thou warn H2094 the wicked, H7563 and he turn H7725 not from his wickedness, H7562 nor from his wicked H7563 way, H1870 he shall die H4191 in his iniquity; H5771 but thou hast delivered H5337 thy soul. H5315 Again, H7725 When a righteous H6662 man doth turn H7725 from his righteousness, H6664 and commit H6213 iniquity, H5766 and I lay H5414 a stumblingblock H4383 before H6440 him, he shall die: H4191 because thou hast not given him warning, H2094 he shall die H4191 in his sin, H2403 and his righteousness H6666 which he hath done H6213 shall not be remembered; H2142 but his blood H1818 will I require H1245 at thine hand. Commentary on Ezekiel 3 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 3
In this chapter we have the further preparation of the prophet for the work to which God called him.
Eze 3:1-15
These verses are fitly joined by some translators to the foregoing chapter, as being of a piece with it and a continuation of the same vision. The prophets received the word from God that they might deliver it to the people of God, furnished themselves that they might furnish them with the knowledge of the mind and will of God. Now here the prophet is taught,
Eze 3:16-21
These further instructions God gave to the prophet at the end of seven days, that is, on the seventh day after the vision he had; and it is very probably that both that and this were on the sabbath day, which the house of Israel, even in their captivity, observed as well as they could in those circumstances. We do not find that their conquerors and oppressors tied them to any constant service, as their Egyptian task-masters had formerly done, but that they might observe the sabbath-rest for a sign to distinguish between them and their neighbours; but for the sabbath-work they had not the convenience of temple or synagogue, only it should seem they had a place by the river side where prayer was wont to be made (as Acts 16:13); there they met on the sabbath day; there their enemies upbraided them with the songs of Zion (Ps. 137:1, 3); there Ezekiel met them, and the word of the Lord then and there came to him. He that had been musing and meditating on the things of God all the week was fit to speak to the people in God's name on the sabbath day, and disposed to hear God speak to him. This sabbath day Ezekiel was not so honoured with visions of the glory of God as he had been the sabbath before; but he is plainly, and by a very common similitude, told his duty, which he is to communicate to the people. Note, Raptures and transports of joy are not the daily bread of God's children, however they may upon special occasions be feasted with them. We must not deny but that we have truly communion with God (1 Jn. 1:3) though we have it not always so sensibly as at some times. And, though the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven may sometimes be looked into, yet ordinarily it is plain preaching that is most for edification. God here tells the prophet what his office was, and what the duty of that office; and this (we may suppose) he was to tell the people, that they might attend to what he said and improve it accordingly. Note, It is good for people to know and consider what a charge their ministers have of them and what an account they must shortly give of that charge. Observe,
Eze 3:22-27
After all this large and magnificent discovery which God had made of himself to the prophet, and the full instructions he had given him how to deal with those to whom he sent him with an ample commission, we should have expected presently to see him preaching the word of God to a great congregation of Israel; but here we find it quite otherwise. his work here, at first, seems not at all proportionable to the pomp of his call.
