2 And Abraham H85 said H559 of H413 Sarah H8283 his wife, H802 She is my sister: H269 and Abimelech H40 king H4428 of Gerar H1642 sent, H7971 and took H3947 Sarah. H8283
The princes H8269 also of Pharaoh H6547 saw H7200 her, and commended H1984 her before H413 Pharaoh: H6547 and the woman H802 was taken H3947 into Pharaoh's H6547 house. H1004
And the men H582 of the place H4725 asked H7592 him of his wife; H802 and he said, H559 She is my sister: H269 for he feared H3372 to say, H559 She is my wife; H802 lest, said he, the men H582 of the place H4725 should kill H2026 me for Rebekah; H7259 because she was fair H2896 to look upon. H4758
And it came to pass, when H834 he was come near H7126 to enter H935 into Egypt, H4714 that he said H559 unto Sarai H8297 his wife, H802 Behold H2009 now, H4994 I know H3045 that thou art a fair H3303 woman H802 to look upon: H4758 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians H4713 shall see H7200 thee, that they shall say, H559 This is his wife: H802 and they will kill H2026 me, but they will save thee alive. H2421 Say, H559 I pray thee, H4994 thou art my sister: H269 that H4616 it may be well H3190 with me for thy sake; and my soul H5315 shall live H2421 because of thee. H1558
And yet indeed H546 she is my sister; H269 she is the daughter H1323 of my father, H1 but not the daughter H1323 of my mother; H517 and she became my wife. H802
And Jehu H3058 the son H1121 of Hanani H2607 the seer H2374 went out H3318 to meet H6440 him, and said H559 to king H4428 Jehoshaphat, H3092 Shouldest thou help H5826 the ungodly, H7563 and love H157 them that hate H8130 the LORD? H3068 therefore H2063 is wrath H7110 upon thee from before H6440 the LORD. H3068
Then Eliezer H461 the son H1121 of Dodavah H1735 of Mareshah H4762 prophesied H5012 against Jehoshaphat, H3092 saying, H559 Because thou hast joined H2266 thyself with Ahaziah, H274 the LORD H3068 hath broken H6555 thy works. H4639 And the ships H591 were broken, H7665 that they were not able H6113 to go H3212 to Tarshish. H8659
Howbeit H3651 in the business of the ambassadors H3887 of the princes H8269 of Babylon, H894 who sent H7971 unto him to enquire H1875 of the wonder H4159 that was done in the land, H776 God H430 left H5800 him, to try H5254 him, that he might know H3045 all that was in his heart. H3824
For a just H6662 man falleth H5307 seven times, H7651 and riseth up again: H6965 but the wicked H7563 shall fall H3782 into mischief. H7451
For there is not a just H6662 man H120 upon earth, H776 that doeth H6213 good, H2896 and sinneth H2398 not.
But G1161 when G3753 Peter G4074 was come G2064 to G1519 Antioch, G490 I withstood G436 him G846 to G2596 the face, G4383 because G3754 he was G2258 to be blamed. G2607 For G1063 before G4253 that certain G5100 came G2064 from G575 James, G2385 he did eat G4906 with G3326 the Gentiles: G1484 but G1161 when G3753 they were come, G2064 he withdrew G5288 and G2532 separated G873 himself, G1438 fearing G5399 them which were of G1537 the circumcision. Commentary on Genesis 20 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 20
We are here returning to the story of Abraham; yet that part of it which is here recorded is not to his honour. The fairest marbles have their flaws, and, while there are spots in the sun, we must not expect any thing spotless under it. The scripture, it should be remarked, is impartial in relating the blemishes even of its most celebrated characters. We have here,

Gen 20:3-7
It appears by this that God revealed himself by dreams (which evidenced themselves to be divine and supernatural) not only to his servants the prophets, but even to those who were out of the pale of the church and covenant; but then, usually, it was with some regard to God's own people as in Pharaoh's dream, to Joseph, in Nebuchadnezzar's, to Daniel, and here, in Abimelech's, to Abraham and Sarah, for he reproved this king for their sake, Ps. 105:14, 15.
Gen 20:8-13
Abimelech, being thus warned of God in a dream, takes the warning, and, as one truly afraid of sin and its consequences, he rises early to obey the directions given him.
