40 And by thy sword H2719 shalt thou live, H2421 and shalt serve H5647 thy brother; H251 and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, H7300 that thou shalt break H6561 his yoke H5923 from off thy neck. H6677
In his days H3117 Edom H123 revolted H6586 from under the hand H3027 of Judah, H3063 and made H4427 a king H4428 over themselves. So Joram H3141 went over H5674 to Zair, H6811 and all the chariots H7393 with him: and he rose H6965 by night, H3915 and smote H5221 the Edomites H123 which compassed him about, H5437 and the captains H8269 of the chariots: H7393 and the people H5971 fled H5127 into their tents. H168 Yet Edom H123 revolted H6586 from under the hand H3027 of Judah H3063 unto this day. H3117 Then Libnah H3841 revolted H6586 at the same H1931 time. H6256
For it came to pass, when David H1732 was in Edom, H123 and Joab H3097 the captain H8269 of the host H6635 was gone up H5927 to bury H6912 the slain, H2491 after he had smitten H5221 every male H2145 in Edom; H123 (For six H8337 months H2320 did Joab H3097 remain H3427 there with all Israel, H3478 until he had cut off H3772 every male H2145 in Edom:) H123 That Hadad H111 fled, H1272 he and certain H582 Edomites H130 of his father's H1 servants H5650 with him, to go H935 into Egypt; H4714 Hadad H1908 being yet a little H6996 child. H5288
Them also king H4428 David H1732 dedicated H6942 unto the LORD, H3068 with the silver H3701 and the gold H2091 that he brought H5375 from all these nations; H1471 from Edom, H123 and from Moab, H4124 and from the children H1121 of Ammon, H5983 and from the Philistines, H6430 and from Amalek. H6002 Moreover Abishai H52 the son H1121 of Zeruiah H6870 slew H5221 of the Edomites H123 in the valley H1516 of salt H4417 eighteen H8083 H6240 thousand. H505 And he put H7760 garrisons H5333 in Edom; H123 and all the Edomites H123 became David's H1732 servants. H5650 Thus the LORD H3068 preserved H3467 David H1732 whithersoever he went. H1980
And Amaziah H558 strengthened H2388 himself, and led forth H5090 his people, H5971 and went H3212 to the valley H1516 of salt, H4417 and smote H5221 of the children H1121 of Seir H8165 ten H6235 thousand. H505 And other ten H6235 thousand H505 left alive H2416 did the children H1121 of Judah H3063 carry away captive, H7617 and brought H935 them unto the top H7218 of the rock, H5553 and cast them down H7993 from the top H7218 of the rock, H5553 that they all were broken in pieces. H1234
But upon mount H2022 Zion H6726 shall be deliverance, H6413 and there shall be holiness; H6944 and the house H1004 of Jacob H3290 shall possess H3423 their possessions. H4180 And the house H1004 of Jacob H3290 shall be a fire, H784 and the house H1004 of Joseph H3130 a flame, H3852 and the house H1004 of Esau H6215 for stubble, H7179 and they shall kindle H1814 in them, and devour H398 them; and there shall not be any remaining H8300 of the house H1004 of Esau; H6215 for the LORD H3068 hath spoken H1696 it. And they of the south H5045 shall possess H3423 the mount H2022 of Esau; H6215 and they of the plain H8219 the Philistines: H6430 and they shall possess H3423 the fields H7704 of Ephraim, H669 and the fields H7704 of Samaria: H8111 and Benjamin H1144 shall possess Gilead. H1568 And the captivity H1546 of this host H2426 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 shall possess that of the Canaanites, H3669 even unto Zarephath; H6886 and the captivity H1546 of Jerusalem, H3389 which is in Sepharad, H5614 shall possess H3423 the cities H5892 of the south. H5045 And saviours H3467 shall come up H5927 on mount H2022 Zion H6726 to judge H8199 the mount H2022 of Esau; H6215 and the kingdom H4410 shall be the LORD'S. H3068

Commentary on Genesis 27 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 27
In this chapter we return to the typical story of the struggle between Esau and Jacob. Esau had profanely sold the birthright to Jacob; but Esau hopes he shall be never the poorer, nor Jacob the richer, for that bargain, while he preserves his interest in his father's affections, and so secures the blessing. Here therefore we find how he was justly punished for his contempt of the birthright (of which he foolishly deprived himself) with the loss of the blessing, of which Jacob fraudulently deprives him. Thus this story is explained, Heb. 12:16, 17, "Because he sold the birthright, when he would have inherited the blessing he was rejected.' For those that make light of the name and profession of religion, and throw them away for a trifle, thereby forfeit the powers and privileges of it. We have here,
