27 And they told H1696 him all the words H1697 of Joseph, H3130 which he had said H1696 unto them: and when he saw H7200 the wagons H5699 which Joseph H3130 had sent H7971 to carry H5375 him, the spirit H7307 of Jacob H3290 their father H1 revived: H2421
Now thou art commanded, H6680 this do H6213 ye; take H3947 you wagons H5699 out of the land H776 of Egypt H4714 for your little ones, H2945 and for your wives, H802 and bring H5375 your father, H1 and come. H935
But God H430 clave H1234 an hollow place H4388 that was in the jaw, H3895 and there came H3318 water H4325 thereout; and when he had drunk, H8354 his spirit H7307 came again, H7725 and he revived: H2421 wherefore he called H7121 the name H8034 thereof Enhakkore, H5875 which is in Lehi H3896 unto this day. H3117
And they gave H5414 him a piece H6400 of a cake H1690 of figs, and two H8147 clusters of raisins: H6778 and when he had eaten, H398 his spirit H7307 came again H7725 to him: for he had eaten H398 no bread, H3899 nor drunk H8354 any water, H4325 three H7969 days H3117 and three H7969 nights. H3915
Wilt thou not revive H2421 us again: H7725 that thy people H5971 may rejoice H8055 in thee?
For thus saith H559 the high H7311 and lofty One H5375 that inhabiteth H7931 eternity, H5703 whose name H8034 is Holy; H6918 I dwell H7931 in the high H4791 and holy H6918 place, with him also that is of a contrite H1793 and humble H8217 spirit, H7307 to revive H2421 the spirit H7307 of the humble, H8217 and to revive H2421 the heart H3820 of the contrite ones. Commentary on Genesis 45 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 45
It is a pity that this chapter and the foregoing should be parted, and read asunder. There we had Judah's intercession for Benjamin, with which, we may suppose, the rest of his brethren signified their concurrence; Joseph let him go on without interruption, heard all he had to say, and then answered it all in one word, "I am Joseph.' Now he found his brethren humbled for their sins, mindful of himself (for Judah had mentioned him twice in his speech), respectful to their father, and very tender of their brother Benjamin; now they were ripe for the comfort he designed them, by making himself known to them, the story of which we have in this chapter. It was to Joseph's brethren as clear shining after rain, nay, it was to them as life from the dead. Here is,
Gen 45:1-15
Judah and his brethren were waiting for an answer, and could not but be amazed to discover, instead of the gravity of a judge, the natural affection of a father or brother.
Gen 45:16-24
Here is,
Gen 45:25-28
We have here the good news brought to Jacob.
