26 The blessings H1293 of thy father H1 have prevailed H1396 above the blessings H1293 of my progenitors H2029 unto the utmost bound H8379 of the everlasting H5769 hills: H1389 they shall be on the head H7218 of Joseph, H3130 and on the crown of the head H6936 of him that was separate H5139 from his brethren. H251
And for the chief things H7218 of the ancient H6924 mountains, H2042 and for the precious things H4022 of the lasting H5769 hills, H1389 And for the precious things H4022 of the earth H776 and fulness H4393 thereof, and for the good will H7522 of him that dwelt H7931 in the bush: H5572 let the blessing come H935 upon the head H7218 of Joseph, H3130 and upon the top of the head H6936 of him that was separated H5139 from his brethren. H251
He stood, H5975 and measured H4128 the earth: H776 he beheld, H7200 and drove asunder H5425 the nations; H1471 and the everlasting H5703 mountains H2042 were scattered, H6327 the perpetual H5769 hills H1389 did bow: H7817 his ways H1979 are everlasting. H5769
And he came near, H5066 and kissed H5401 him: and he smelled H7306 the smell H7381 of his raiment, H899 and blessed H1288 him, and said, H559 See, H7200 the smell H7381 of my son H1121 is as the smell H7381 of a field H7704 which the LORD H3068 hath blessed: H1288 Therefore God H430 give H5414 thee of the dew H2919 of heaven, H8064 and the fatness H4924 of the earth, H776 and plenty H7230 of corn H1715 and wine: H8492 Let people H5971 serve H5647 thee, and nations H3816 bow down H7812 to thee: be H1933 lord H1376 over thy brethren, H251 and let thy mother's H517 sons H1121 bow down H7812 to thee: cursed H779 be every one that curseth H779 thee, and blessed H1288 be he that blesseth H1288 thee.
And Isaac H3327 his father H1 answered H6030 and said H559 unto him, Behold, thy dwelling H4186 shall be the fatness H4924 of the earth, H776 and of the dew H2919 of heaven H8064 from above; H5920 And by thy sword H2719 shalt thou live, H2421 and shalt serve H5647 thy brother; H251 and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, H7300 that thou shalt break H6561 his yoke H5923 from off thy neck. H6677
And God H410 Almighty H7706 bless H1288 thee, and make thee fruitful, H6509 and multiply H7235 thee, that thou mayest be a multitude H6951 of people; H5971 And give H5414 thee the blessing H1293 of Abraham, H85 to thee, and to thy seed H2233 with thee; that thou mayest inherit H3423 the land H776 wherein thou art a stranger, H4033 which God H430 gave H5414 unto Abraham. H85
Then there passed H5674 by Midianites H4084 merchantmen; H582 H5503 and they drew H4900 and lifted up H5927 Joseph H3130 out of the pit, H953 and sold H4376 Joseph H3130 to the Ishmeelites H3459 for twenty H6242 pieces of silver: H3701 and they brought H935 Joseph H3130 into Egypt. H4714
Speak H1696 unto the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 and say H559 unto them, When either man H376 or woman H802 shall separate H6381 themselves to vow H5087 a vow H5088 of a Nazarite, H5139 to separate H5144 themselves unto the LORD: H3068
His seed H2233 shall endure for ever, H5769 and his throne H3678 as the sun H8121 before me.
He sent H7971 a man H376 before H6440 them, even Joseph, H3130 who was sold H4376 for a servant: H5650 Whose feet H7272 they hurt H6031 with fetters: H3525 he H5315 was laid H935 in iron: H1270 Until the time H6256 that his word H1697 came: H935 the word H565 of the LORD H3068 tried H6884 him. The king H4428 sent H7971 and loosed H5425 him; even the ruler H4910 of the people, H5971 and let him go free. H6605 He made H7760 him lord H113 of his house, H1004 and ruler H4910 of all his substance: H7075 To bind H631 his princes H8269 at his pleasure; H5315 and teach his senators H2205 wisdom. H2449
His enemies H341 will I clothe H3847 with shame: H1322 but upon himself shall his crown H5145 flourish. H6692
For the mountains H2022 shall depart, H4185 and the hills H1389 be removed; H4131 but my kindness H2617 shall not depart H4185 from thee, neither shall the covenant H1285 of my peace H7965 be removed, H4131 saith H559 the LORD H3068 that hath mercy H7355 on thee.
Hear H8085 the word H1697 of the LORD, H3068 ye that tremble H2730 at his word; H1697 Your brethren H251 that hated H8130 you, that cast you out H5077 for my name's H8034 sake, said, H559 Let the LORD H3068 be glorified: H3513 but he shall appear H7200 to your joy, H8057 and they shall be ashamed. H954
And they shall dwell H3427 in the land H776 that I have given H5414 unto Jacob H3290 my servant, H5650 wherein your fathers H1 have dwelt; H3427 and they shall dwell H3427 therein, even they, and their children, H1121 and their children's H1121 children H1121 for ever: H5769 and my servant H5650 David H1732 shall be their prince H5387 for H5704 ever. H5769 Moreover I will make H3772 a covenant H1285 of peace H7965 with them; it shall be an everlasting H5769 covenant H1285 with them: and I will place H5414 them, and multiply H7235 them, and will set H5414 my sanctuary H4720 in the midst H8432 of them for evermore. Commentary on Genesis 49 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 49
This chapter is a prophecy; the likest to it we have yet met with was that of Noah, ch. 9:25, etc. Jacob is here upon his death-bed, making his will. He put it off till now, because dying men's words are apt to make deep impressions, and to be remembered long: what he said here, he could not say when he would, but as the Spirit gave him utterance, who chose this time, that divine strength might be perfected in his weakness. The twelve sons of Jacob were, in their day, men of renown, but the twelve tribes of Israel, which descended and were denominated from them, were much more renowned; we find their names upon the gates of the New Jerusalem, Rev. 21:12. In the prospect of this their dying father says something remarkable of each son, or of the tribe that bore his name. Here is,

Gen 49:5-7
These were next in age to Reuben, and they also had been a grief and shame to Jacob, when they treacherously and barbarously destroyed the Shechemites, which he here remembers against them. Children should be afraid of incurring their parents' just displeasure, lest they fare the worse for it long afterwards, and, when they would inherit the blessing, be rejected. Observe,
Gen 49:8-12
Glorious things are here said of Judah. The mention of the crimes of the three elder of his sons had not so put the dying patriarch out of humour but that he had a blessing ready for Judah, to whom blessings belonged. Judah's name signifies praise, in allusion to which he says, Thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise, v. 8. God was praised for him (ch. 29:35), praised by him, and praised in him; and therefore his brethren shall praise him. Note, Those that are to God for a praise shall be the praise of their brethren. It is prophesied that,

Gen 49:22-27
He closes with the blessings of his best beloved sons, Joseph and Benjamin; with these he will breathe his last.
