7 And Noah H5146 went in, H935 and his sons, H1121 and his wife, H802 and his sons' H1121 wives H802 with him, into the ark, H8392 because of H6440 the waters H4325 of the flood. H3999
They did eat, G2068 they drank, G4095 they married wives, G1060 they were given in marriage, G1547 until G891 the day G2250 that G3739 Noe G3575 entered G1525 into G1519 the ark, G2787 and G2532 the flood G2627 came, G2064 and G2532 destroyed G622 them all. G537
For G1063 as G5618 in G1722 the days G2250 that were G2258 before G4253 the flood G2627 they were eating G5176 and G2532 drinking, G4095 marrying G1060 and G2532 giving in marriage, G1547 until G891 the day G2250 that G3739 Noe G3575 entered G1525 into G1519 the ark, G2787
And G2532 spared G5339 not G3756 the old G744 world, G2889 but G235 saved G5442 Noah G3575 the eighth G3590 person, a preacher G2783 of righteousness, G1343 bringing in G1863 the flood G2627 upon the world G2889 of the ungodly; G765
In the selfsame H6106 day H3117 entered H935 Noah, H5146 and Shem, H8035 and Ham, H2526 and Japheth, H3315 the sons H1121 of Noah, H5146 and Noah's H5146 wife, H802 and the three H7969 wives H802 of his sons H1121 with them, into the ark; H8392 They, H1992 and every beast H2416 after his kind, H4327 and all the cattle H929 after their kind, H4327 and every creeping thing H7431 that creepeth H7430 upon the earth H776 after his kind, H4327 and every fowl H5775 after his kind, H4327 every bird H6833 of every sort. H3671 And they went in H935 unto Noah H5146 into the ark, H8392 two H8147 and two H8147 of all flesh, H1320 wherein H834 is the breath H7307 of life. H2416
A prudent H6175 man foreseeth H7200 the evil, H7451 and hideth H5641 H5641 himself: but the simple H6612 pass on, H5674 and are punished. H6064
That G2443 by G1223 two G1417 immutable G276 things, G4229 in G1722 which G3739 it was impossible G102 for God G2316 to lie, G5574 we might have G2192 a strong G2478 consolation, G3874 who G3588 have fled for refuge G2703 to lay hold G2902 upon the hope G1680 set before us: G4295
By faith G4102 Noah, G3575 being warned of God G5537 of G4012 things not G3369 seen G991 as yet, G3369 moved with fear, G2125 prepared G2680 an ark G2787 to G1519 the saving G4991 of his G846 house; G3624 by G1223 the which G3739 he condemned G2632 the world, G2889 and G2532 became G1096 heir G2818 of the righteousness G1343 which is by G2596 faith. G4102
Which sometime G4218 were disobedient, G544 when G3753 once G530 the longsuffering G3115 of God G2316 waited G1551 in G1722 the days G2250 of Noah, G3575 while the ark G2787 was a preparing, G2680 wherein G1519 G3739 few, G3641 that is, G5123 eight G3638 souls G5590 were saved G1295 by G1223 water. Commentary on Genesis 7 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 7
In this chapter we have the performance of what was foretold in the foregoing chapter, both concerning the destruction of the old world and the salvation of Noah; for we may be sure that no word of God shall fall to the ground. There we left Noah busy about his ark, and full of care to get it finished in time, while the rest of his neighbours were laughing at him for his pains. Now here we see what was the end thereof, the end of his care and of their carelessness. And this famous period of the old world gives us some idea of the state of things when the world that now is shall be destroyed by fire, as that was by water. See 2 Pt. 3:6, 7. We have, in this chapter,
Gen 7:1-4
Here is,
Gen 7:5-10
Here is Noah's ready obedience to the commands that God gave him. Observe,
Gen 7:11-12
Here is,
Gen 7:13-16
Here is repeated what was related before of Noah's entrance into the ark, with his family and creatures that were marked for preservation. Now,
Gen 7:17-20
We are here told,
Gen 7:21-24
Here is,
Let us now pause awhile and consider this tremendous judgment! Let our hearts meditate terror, the terror of this destruction. Let us see, and say, It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God; who can stand before him when he is angry? Let us see and say, It is an evil thing, and a bitter, to depart from God. The sin of sinners will, without repentance, be their ruin, first or last; if God be true, it will. Though hand join in hand, yet the wicked shall not go unpunished. The righteous God knows how to bring a flood upon the world of the ungodly, 2 Pt. 2:5. Eliphaz appeals to this story as a standing warning to a careless world (Job 22:15, 16), Hast thou marked the old way, which wicked men have trodden, who were cut down out of time, and sent into eternity, whose foundation was overflown with the flood?
