5 Now therefore thus saith H559 the LORD H3068 of hosts; H6635 Consider H7760 H3824 your ways. H1870
Let us search H2664 and try H2713 our ways, H1870 and turn again H7725 to the LORD. H3068
Mark H7896 ye well H3820 her bulwarks, H2430 consider H6448 her palaces; H759 that ye may tell H5608 it to the generation H1755 following. H314
Because he considereth, H7200 and turneth away H7725 from all his transgressions H6588 that he hath committed, H6213 he shall surely H2421 live, H2421 he shall not die. H4191
And the man H376 said H1696 unto me, Son H1121 of man, H120 behold H7200 with thine eyes, H5869 and hear H8085 with thine ears, H241 and set H7760 thine heart H3820 upon all that I shall shew H7200 thee; for to the intent H4616 that I might shew H7200 them unto thee art thou brought H935 hither: declare H5046 all that thou seest H7200 to the house H1004 of Israel. H3478
Then H116 the king, H4430 when he heard H8086 these words, H4406 was sore H7690 displeased H888 with himself, and set H7761 his heart H1079 on H5922 Daniel H1841 to deliver H7804 him: and he laboured H1934 H7712 till H5705 the going down H4606 of the sun H8122 to deliver H5338 him.
Then said H559 he unto me, Fear H3372 not, Daniel: H1840 for from the first H7223 day H3117 that thou didst set H5414 thine heart H3820 to understand, H995 and to chasten H6031 thyself before H6440 thy God, H430 thy words H1697 were heard, H8085 and I am come H935 for thy words. H1697
Examine G3985 yourselves, G1438 whether G1487 ye be G2075 in G1722 the faith; G4102 prove G1381 your own selves. G1438 G2228 Know ye G1921 not G3756 your own selves, G1438 how that G3754 Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 is G2076 in G1722 you, G5213 except G1509 ye be G2075 reprobates? G5100 G96
But G1161 let G1381 every man G1538 prove G1381 his own G1438 work, G2041 and G2532 then G5119 shall he have G2192 rejoicing G2745 in G1519 himself G1438 alone, G3441 and G2532 not G3756 in G1519 another. G2087
And now, I pray you, consider H7760 H3824 from this day H3117 and upward, H4605 from before H2962 a stone H68 was laid H7760 upon a stone H68 in the temple H1964 of the LORD: H3068 Since those days were, when one came H935 to an heap H6194 of twenty H6242 measures, there were but ten: H6235 when one came H935 to the pressfat H3342 for to draw out H2834 fifty H2572 vessels out of the press, H6333 there were but twenty. H6242 I smote H5221 you with blasting H7711 and with mildew H3420 and with hail H1259 in all the labours H4639 of your hands; H3027 yet ye turned not to me, saith H5002 the LORD. H3068 Consider H7760 H3824 now from this day H3117 and upward, H4605 from the four H702 and twentieth H6242 day H3117 of the ninth H8671 month, even from the day H3117 that the foundation H3245 of the LORD'S H3068 temple H1964 was laid, consider H7760 H3824 it.

Commentary on Haggai 1 Matthew Henry Commentary
An Exposition, With Practical Observations, of
The Prophecy of Haggai
Chapter 1
In this chapter, after the preamble of the prophecy, we have,
Hag 1:1-11
It was the complaint of the Jews in Babylon that they saw not their signs, and there was no more prophet (Ps. 74:9), which was a just judgment upon them for mocking and misusing the prophets. We read of no prophets they had in their return, as they had in their coming out of Egypt, Hos. 12:13. God stirred them up immediately by his Spirit to exert themselves in that escape (Ezra 1:5); for, though God makes use of prophets, he needs them not, he can do his work without them. But the lamp of Old-Testament prophecy shall yet make some bright and glorious efforts before it expire; and Haggai is the first that appears under the character of a special messenger from heaven, when the word of the Lord had been long precious (as when prophecy began, 1 Sa. 3:1) and there had been no open vision. In the reign of Darius Hystaspes, the third of the Persian kings, in the second year of his reign, this prophet was sent; and the word of the Lord came to him, and came by him to the leading men among the Jews, who are here named, v. 1. The chief governor,
Hag 1:12-15
As an ear-ring of gold (says Solomon), and an ornament of fine gold, so amiable, so acceptable, in the sight of God and man, is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear, Prov. 25:12. The prophet here was a wise but faithful reprover, in God's name, and he met with an obedient ear. The foregoing sermon met with the desired success among the people, and their obedience met with due encouragement from God. Observe,
